We talk about the making of this album, what it is like to be in a room with Jay-Z, the lost work of Kevin Federline, disagreements with Common, the Genius List, and ask if Fort Minor is an ego boost or an essential document.

This week, the Roach Koach Podcast is taking a break. Right now in the US, communities across the country are protesting and rebelling against police brutality and the systemic racism that this country was founded on. This week, it doesn’t feel right to ask you to listen to us talk about nu-metal.

We love you and appreciate the time you give us every week, and this week we ask that you use those hours to listen to something different. If you haven’t already, please check out Scene on Radio- a podcast that tells stories exploring human experience and American society. Season Two is called Seeing White, which explores the history and meaning of whiteness. Another great podcast is 1619, an audio series from The New York Times observing the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. Skipping an episode of this podcast isn’t going to solve hundreds of years of systemic oppression, but we think it’s important to use whatever platform we can to speak in support of the protesters and be clear that we believe that black lives matter and the US justice system has to change. We’ll be back next week. We love you, stay safe, and use your voice for change.

This week on the Roach Koach podcast we listen to Downset. and their album, Do We Speak a Dead Language? Also: news on new Stabbing Westward, some Indian nu-metal, and Deftones feedback.

It’s a very special Roach Koach this week as we welcome good friend of show, Josh Toomey, of the Talk Toomey podcast, to discuss his old band Primer 55 and their sophomore album, (the) New Release. Topics discussed: 9/11’s impact on the album, setlists, hitting the funk pipe, the influence of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, backstage fights, the amazing J-Sin, and of course, deciding if Primer 55 deserve a spot in the Nu-Metal Canon.
