“Conventional medicine doesn’t stand a chance of turning the tide against chronic disease”.
When Chris Kresser got sick on a surfing trip to Indonesia he never expected it to catapult him into becoming a leader in the Functional Medicine space but after a decade-long struggle with what became a chronic illness, he learned first hand where health care succeeded—and where it came up short.
After seeking the help of more than 30 healthcare practitioners and, ultimately, having to learn and implement behavioral change on his own with limited support, Chris emerged with his health—and a vision and drive for changing and improving the practice and education of his field.
A renowned expert, leading clinician, and top educator in the fields of Functional Medicine and Ancestral Health, Chris has treated thousands of patients with chronic health challenges over the last 15 years. Author of the New York Times-bestselling book “The Paleo Cure”; his latest book is Unconventional Medicine.
In this week‘s episode, he shares candidly his own story and experience and how that served as the crucible for the evolution of his approach, from a dedicated root-cause Functional Medicine practitioner to an explorer of what it means to thrive and flourish in the modern world.
Over time, he developed his Adapt Framework, a collaborative model of care, to offer you what he calls “counterpoints” to help you navigate or avoid these pitfalls.
Learn how to identify and work with limiting beliefs and ideas, like “health is simply the absence of symptoms or disease” or “that we, as individuals, are in full control of our health and well-being” or that “the ONLY way to improve health is to address the root-cause”
Here are some things you’ll discover in this episode:
- Why you would benefit from a more inclusive and holistic definition of health (the ability to live your dreams).
- The role of what Chris calls “radical self-care” in a world where it’s increasingly difficult to find time for oneself.
- How to zoom out and look at health as a process we engage in, rather than an outcome.
- How to understand the ecosystem of health and disease. Turns out our illness, pain, and challenges aren’t purely individual.
- and more…
