A campaign that saw more than three-thousand letters sent to farmers during drought, is being re-launched to help our primary producers through the covid-19 economic slowdown.

In the lead into Christmas 2018, children were encouraged to write to farmers, acknowledging their contribution to Australia..

The lead indicator for the price of wool has hit its lowest level in five years, as the global retail slowdown begins to hit our sheep producers.

Since hitting record highs in September 2018, the price of our wool has dropped by 47 percent.

Back then the eastern market indicator hit 2101 cents per kilogram.

The markets have been in free fall since February, driven by coronavirus and the retail slow down -- with the EMI falling another 2 percent this week to 1155c/kg.

The loss of exporting barley to China is being described as a "huge blow" for grain growers who've been battling consecutive years of drought.

Beijing has implemented an 80 percent tariff on our barley, claiming Australia had dumped the product in China at a discounted price.

The resumption of work upgrading the Murray Basin Rail corridor is unlikely to be on the to-do list under the Victorian government's $2.7 billion "Building Works" package.

The standardisation of rail through the state's North West, was a key election promise of Labor in its 2014 state election win.

The $440 million project set out to modernise more than 1,000km of rail, cutting the time it takes for produce to move from farm gate to plate.  

But the project ran out of money last year.

An auditor general's report released in March described the completed parts of the upgrade as "deficient" and "inadequate".
