  • Episode 33: Where to Spend Your Marketing Budget (with Jennifer Jenkins)

What should you actually focus on with your marketing — where should your time, your energy, and your money go to get the biggest return for your business? In this episode, I sit down with Jennifer Jenkins of JJPR Agency to answer those exact questions.

Jennifer has spent her career inside the world of public relations, watching what works for businesses of every size and stage. She has the kind of perspective most small business owners desperately need but rarely have access to: someone who has seen what marketing dollars actually buy at scale, what gets attention versus what gets ignored, and where most founders are quietly throwing money at the wrong things. We get tactical. Where to focus your reach efforts, what to stop doing, and how to make smaller marketing budgets work harder than bigger ones often do.

Jennifer also shares a specific solution she's developed to help small business owners get the kind of strategic PR support that's usually only available to companies with much bigger budgets — which, on its own, makes this episode worth the time.

  • Episode 32: The Real Answer to "What's Your Passion?"

What is your gift? Not the answer you'd give in an interview — the actual one. The thing that comes so naturally to you that you've probably dismissed it your whole life because it didn't feel like work.

How do you find your passion when the conventional career-advice version of that question hasn't gotten you anywhere? And once you do find it, how do you turn it into something real — not a fantasy you dream about on hard Tuesdays, but a thing you actually build?

In this solo episode, I walk through three specific tools I use — both in my own life and with the women I work with — to zero in on the dream that's actually yours and start moving toward it on purpose. These aren't visualization exercises or vision boards. They're practical ways of cutting through the noise of what you should want to find what you actually want, and then translating that into something the next-Tuesday version of you can act on.

If you've been carrying a quiet sense that you're meant for something bigger but you can't quite name what it is, this episode will help you name it.

  • Episode 31: How to Be Seen (Without Performing)

Why are you living so small? What's actually holding you back from being seen the way you want to be seen?

In this episode, I sit down with Kim Kuhteubl — a producer, writer, and visibility strategist whose background in television production gives her a genuinely unusual lens on how creative professionals and business owners can show up bigger in their work. Kim has spent years working with the people behind the camera and in front of it, and she's developed a sharp instinct for what makes someone visible (in the substantive sense, not the influencer sense) versus what keeps them quietly stuck behind the scenes of their own life.

We talk about why so many talented women are running businesses that the right people don't even know exist, what it actually takes to show up in a bigger way without performing or shrinking yourself in the process, and the specific moves Kim recommends for getting seen by the people you most want to find you. Her perspective is shaped by an industry that treats visibility as a craft, not a personality trait — and that distinction alone changes the conversation.

If you've been quietly suspecting that your work deserves a bigger audience but you're not sure how to bridge the gap, this is the episode for you.

  • Episode 30: Why Your Team Isn't Following Through

Are you making the most of your twenty-four hours? Most entrepreneurs aren't — and the reason isn't time management, productivity systems, or discipline. It's something quieter, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

In this solo episode, I walk through one of the most underrated tools in business: clarity. Not the abstract, motivational kind. The specific, operational kind. The kind that lets your team know exactly where you're taking them and what their role is in getting there. The kind that lets you walk into your own day knowing what matters and what doesn't.

Here's what most leaders miss: people don't follow you because of your vision. They follow you because of your clarity about the vision. The two are not the same thing. A team that's confused — even a team made up of brilliant people — will produce confused results. A team that's clear can do extraordinary things, sometimes faster than anyone expects.

I walk through how to actually use clarity as a tool, where most business owners are quietly leaking it without realizing, and how a small shift in how you communicate can produce outsized changes in how your business runs.

  • Episode 29: Why You Keep Saying No to What You Actually Want

Ever found yourself standing at the edge of a goal, weighing the version of you who would have to do the hard thing against the version of you who would benefit from it — and quietly deciding the cost is too high?

I've been there. Most of the women I work with have been there. And in this solo episode, I make the case that the answer is almost always yes, it's worth it — but not for the reasons most motivational content gives you. The hard part of pursuing a real goal isn't the work. It's the willingness to trade your present comfort for a future you can't yet see and can't fully predict. That trade is the actual transaction nobody warns you about.

I walk through how to think about that trade honestly, why your brain is wired to overweight the short-term sacrifice and underweight the long-term gain, and how to make the call when the math feels uncertain. If you've been sitting on a decision because the cost feels too steep, this episode will help you see what you're actually weighing.

  • Episode 28: Stop Hitting the Same Brick Wall

This episode was originally recorded as the start of a new year and a new season of Hitting Rock Middle. The framing is timestamped, but the underlying question isn't: how do you actually work smarter instead of harder, and what does it look like to stop running yourself into the ground for results that aren't even what you said you wanted in the first place?

If you've been wearing yourself out daily, hitting the same brick wall over and over, or quietly suspecting that more effort is no longer the answer to whatever you're trying to fix — this is the conversation to listen to. In this solo episode, I walk through how setting intentions (the real kind, not the vision-board kind) can fundamentally change the way you experience your work and your life. The shift isn't about doing less. It's about choosing what you're aiming at, on purpose, before the day starts spending you.

You don't need a new year to do this. You just need a starting line, and today is as good as any.

  • Episode 27: The Pricing Conversation You Keep Avoiding

In this episode, I sit down with Sam Bennett — author, speaker, and longtime coach to creative entrepreneurs and the folks who insist on building businesses around work they actually love. Sam has spent her career helping people whose talent is undeniable but whose pricing rarely reflects it, and she has the rare ability to make the hard conversations about money feel both practical and possible.

We get tactical. Sam breaks down the actual mechanics of raising your prices — when to do it, how to communicate it, how to handle the moment when a longtime client pushes back, and what to do when the voice in your head says you're charging too much. If you've been undercharging for years and quietly wondering how you got here, this conversation will give you both the framework and the permission to change it.

This is one of those episodes I find myself recommending over and over, because the lessons hold up regardless of what year it is or what stage of business you're in.

  • Episode 26: The Real Reason You Keep Stalling Out

Have you ever set out to make a real change in your life — a real one, not a small one — and within a few days or weeks found yourself overwhelmed, exhausted, and quietly back where you started? You're not lazy. You're not undisciplined. You're not failing at change.

Your brain is doing exactly what it was wired to do.

In this solo episode, I dig into the biology of why change feels so much harder than it should, and why your nervous system will quietly sabotage your best intentions while convincing you it's keeping you safe. We talk about what's actually happening neurologically when you try to do something new, why the discomfort you feel isn't a sign that you're on the wrong path, and how to push through the part where your brain is screaming at you to retreat.

If you've been quietly wondering why you keep stalling out on the changes that matter most to you, this episode will give you the clarity to stop blaming yourself and start working with your biology instead of against it.

  • Episode 25: Five Tactics for the High-Pressure Season

This episode was originally recorded heading into the holiday season, but the truth is, every entrepreneur has her version of this stretch — the time of year (or the launch, or the project deadline) when the calendar suddenly feels tighter than the goals you set. The risk in those moments is the same: you either grind through and lose the joy, or you protect the joy and watch the goals slip.

In this solo episode, I walk you through five tactical things I do to stay focused through high-pressure periods without burning out the parts of life that actually make the work worth doing. They work for the holidays. They work for end-of-quarter pushes. They work any time the to-do list and the calendar are at war.

If you're heading into a season — any season — where you need to keep your foot on the gas without losing yourself in the process, this is the conversation to listen to.

  • Episode 24: The Price Isn't the Problem

In this episode, I tackle a topic I am genuinely passionate about: women making more money — and specifically, charging what their work is actually worth without flinching.

Here's what I see happen all the time. A woman quotes her price. The prospect doesn't move forward. And almost immediately, her brain goes to the same place: the price was too high. I should have charged less. So she lowers it for the next prospect. Or builds a smaller package. Or quietly stops sending proposals at that level.

In this episode, I make the case that the price is almost never the actual problem. The price is just the thing your nervous system wants to be the problem, because it's the easiest variable to change — and changing it lets you avoid the harder, scarier work underneath. We talk about what's really happening when a deal doesn't close, what to look at instead of your number, and how to stay in your worth even when a prospect walks away.

If you've been quietly lowering your prices, talking yourself out of charging what you know your work is worth, or feeling that flicker of doubt every time you send a proposal — this one is for you.
