  • The Luke Whitehouse Story | EP 127

In May 2025, Luke Whitehouse made history by winning his third consecutive European men's artistic gymnastics floor title in Leipzig, Germany. Luke is the first British male artistic gymnast to win three individual gold medals on a single apparatus at major championships level. He was selected to represent Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and competed in both the team and floor individual event finals. At the time of recording this episode Luke was preparing to fly back out to Germany to compete for Great Britain in the World university Games. Once again Luke brought back the floor title against some of the best athletes in the world, including the current Olympic all around champion from Japan. He's on an incredible run so far this year winning three floor titles already and has his sights set on the World championships this Autumn. And this is his story.

  • The Sarah Voss Story | EP 125

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Sarah Voss was the only female artistic gymnast to represent team Germany in the sport of gymnnastics. Incredibly she did so after being officially diagnosed with Lyme-Borreliose disease and mononucleosis following twelve months of disruption to her training schedule, due to extreme fatigue. In 2021 Sarah was the first female women's artistic gymnast to cover her legs for none religious reasons, by wearing a full bodysuit at the European championships. A year later she performed a double twisting Yuchenko on vault in the team final with a tear in her calf muscle. To help secure Germany the team bronze medal at the European championships in Munich in front of a home crowd. Sarah has competed at back to back Olympic Games and first trained alongside the great Fabian Hambuchen as a young kid. Taking her first steps into a gymnastics club. And this is her story.

  • Young Athletes Make Big Mistakes

In this episode of the Sam Oldham podcast I'm going to talk about five of the biggest mistakes I made as a young aspiring athlete. Avoiding these traps will give you a chance of competing at the highest level in your chosen sport and most importantly. Staying there. There're many obstacles along the road on the journey towards success but sometimes if you're able to listen a little more, talk a little less and get out of your own way. As I learned throughout my 21 year career competing in men's gymnastics, many of them can be avoided. And this is my story.

  • The Andreas Toba Story | EP 123

In May 2025 Andreas Toba performed his final international gymnastics routine for Germany at the European championships in Leipzig. Andy won the silver medal in front of a home crowd and announced his retirement from the sport of men's artistic gymnastics following an incredible career. He has represented Germany at four Olympic Games and competed at the very highest level in 22 major championships events. His father Marius Toba competed at three Olympic Games himself and has helped guide his son Andreas through the many challenges of elite level sport. I was lucky enough to compete alongside Andy during the 2013 German Bundesliga winning the league title with TV Wetzgau and was able to learn a great deal from him about being a strong leader. And this is his story.

  • The European Championships Debrief | EP 121

In May 2025 the European gymnastics championships took place in the city of Leipzig in Germany. A week prior to the event, I was asked to be part of the BBC broadcasting team covering the European championships from media house in Salford Manchester. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and watch the apparatus finals live in the studio and then catch up with the earlier events that had taken place throughout the week. In this episode I cover all the big moments from the competition including the team qualification, all around final, mixed team event and individual apparatus finals. The British men have already been back in action following their team gold medal out in Germany at the British team championships. Congratulations to all of the gymnasts that represented their National teams at the European championships it was a real pleasure to watch all of the performances. And this is my story.

  • The Mike Canales Story | EP 119

In 2013 whilst taking part in the Pro Gymnastics Challenge as part of the World team I heard a familiar voice introduce himself to me. Mike Chanales had been the cameraman, coach, physio, sports psychologist and best friend to Paul and Morgan Hamm as they attempted to make a comeback ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Mike fell in love with the sport of Artistic gymnastics in the early nineties and went on to represent the Ohio state university college gymnastics team in the NCAA championships. Following his competitive career Mike began a profession in medicine and later married Dominique Moceanu the 1996 Atalanta Olympic champion who was part of the famous magnificent seven women's US gymnastics team. Throughout his gymnastics journey Mike spent time with some of the very best gymnasts in the world and he is now coaching his son Vincent who has aspirations of reaching the highest level in the sport. This is one of the very best conversations we've had on the podcast and I want to thank Mike for being such an incredible human being. And this is his story.

In this episode of the Sam Oldham podcast I'm joined by Kensley Behel the lady behind the Neutral Deductions men's gymnastics channel. Kensley will be travelling to Germany to cover the 2025 European gymnastics championships in Leipzig that will take place in May. We take a look at the top teams heading into the event and chat about the individual athletes we expect to be challenging for the podium places. Great Britain have a very strong team including Olympic medalists Jake Jarmin and Harry Hepworth who will be hoping to take back the title. Luke Whitehouse is hoping to make history in his attempt to win three back to back European floor titles. Three other athletes will be coming into the competition as defending champions: Marios Georgiou in the all around, Eleftherios Petrounias on Rings and Jake Jarmin on the vault. The remaining apparatus finals will be incredibly exciting and we both make our bold predictions for who will win gold. And this is our story.
