  • Janice Sylvia Brock: Embracing your challenges and knowing you have a gift
Janice Sylvia Brock is a truly gifted and inspirational artist. Originally from Manchester, Janice started suffering from severe rheumatoid arthritis as a child, which resulted in her spending a lot of time in hospital – a condition she will live with for the rest of her life. It was here that her love for painting began. Despite her disability preventing her from being able to take her offered place at Manchester College of Art, the condition has far from stopped her achieving phenomenal success and her compassionate nature shines through in the work she has done to help others. She now has 2 studios; one in the beautiful Cheshire countryside and one overlooking the ocean in Barbados. Her work, which has sold for up to US$200,000, hangs in collections across the globe, including 2 at The White House in America. She also uses her art to help others. She offers art therapy in prisons, psychiatric hospitals and nursing homes and she works tirelessly to improve the quality of life for disabled people in the UK and Barbados and has donated work that has raised over US$250,000.
Janice talks to Sandro in an awe-inspiring way about living positively with her disability, why art can be so therapeutic and how she instinctively lives with so much compassion for helping others.

  • Dan Stein: Staying strong and believing in what you’re doing
Dan Stein and his business are very much an enigma. Not many businesses can say they boast the same success as his through no advertising, but simply word of mouth. His webpage is a simple one page statement and it leaves me wanting to know more. Dan’s business is an exclusive home search agency where ‘privacy is priority’. The reason for that? He’s responsible for finding homes for the rich and famous; clients that are public figures that are instantly recognisable but who are looking to find a home that is far from recognisable as theirs. Dan’s here to tell me more about how he has made his business ‘HiPE’, so successful without all the ‘hype’!
Dan talks to Sandro about how such a bespoke idea came about, why he’s so content with the success he’s so far achieved and why privacy is such an important part of his business.

  • Joe Finn & Florin Mangu: Believing in what you are doing
Joe Finn and Florin Mangu are a pair of pioneering entrepreneurs that have brought together their expertise in the fields of technology and water hygiene to develop a smart sensor that could potentially save thousands of lives every year. Legionnaire’s Disease is a serious type of pneumonia that can be fatal. • Tony Bellingham: Training yourself to work again and never giving up
Tony Bellingham’s story is one that will make your jaw drop! The gifted craftsman is one of few the master goldsmiths in the UK, his work including sculpting gold and silver, carving precious stones and diamond mounting. His works of art have been much sought after by Royalty and Heads of State. For a man of such skill, his hands are invaluable tools, but during a slow period of recovery from contracting TB, he was rushed to hospital with suspected cardiac arrest in 2014. What was to happen next was devastating. He was misdiagnosed with cardiac arrest, unnecessarily operated on and the operation itself left him unable to use his right arm and hand as well as with damaged nerves, leaving him facing a lifetime of extreme pain.
Faced with the prospect of endless pain and no longer able to fulfil his passion for creating works of art, he could have easily been condemned to a life of misery and self-pity, but he has instead shown incredibly strength and determination and has slowly but surely taught himself to use his arm and hand and work once again.
Tony talks to Sandro about how at one point he felt his life was catastrophically over, how he spent a couple of years both physically and mentally disabled and how he found to strength and inspiration to not give up!

  • Mack Dryden: Being a cancer killing comedy commando
Mack Dryden started out as a newspaper reporter and went on to become a professional comedian, but the various traumas he’s encountered on life’s journey led to him becoming a unique and very entertaining motivational speaker.
Originally from Mississippi, Mack has found himself twice in the position where he has had to find the strength to fight against and win the battle against the big ‘C’, as well as having found himself encountering a harrowing stay in an African prison. He was once asked by a friend to relay these experiences to a group of graduate students, which he did with such wit and humour in the way of a true storyteller, that he found himself being asked to speak in front of more and more groups. He now shares his story with audiences where he aims to inspire and entertain people with his family-friendly, moving and funny public speaking.
Mack tells Sandro, in his typically witty, poignant and heartfelt way about his life, overcoming cancer, his philosophy for life that is borne out of his diagnosis at such a young age and how he can still put his head between his knees at the age of 70!
