Danielle M. Orsino has kicked ass throughout her life... literally.
Starting as an international award-winning martial artist, and now as a writer of high-fantasy novels, Danielle and Kristin discuss how her short career as a nurse led to writing, how she ended up on her book covers and why women have a place in the male-dominated world of high fantasy novels.

Helping Career Shifters to Teach Now (with her company Now Teach), Katie Waldegrave
This week, I’m speaking with Katie Waldegrave.
Katie has had various career shifts of her own, both as a teacher and a writer. However, her current calling is helping other "second-chapterers" (aka career shifters) transition into teaching through her organisation, Now Teach. Katie and I talk about her life as a teacher, the fascinating people who have chosen teaching as their next career, and why teaching may be woefully undervalued to begin with.

From Hungover Widow to Available As Is, Debbie Weiss
This week, I’m speaking with Debbie Weiss. When Debbie lost her childhood sweetheart at 50, she was forced to take a look at her life and start asking what SHE needed to be happy. When she finally started dating again, she found that many of the men she encountered weren’t it - and there were enough “schmucks” out there (her word, not mine!) to write a book about it…

This week I’m speaking with Clara Harris of Swamp Witch Studio for the last in my Women of the Fringe series.
Clara took her live audio drama, This Moment in America to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeking a deeper conversation, This Moment in America features ever-changing vignettes drawn from real stories across the US, interwoven with transcripts of current events. It asks: 'what unites us, in these United States?’ and Clara’s Fringe outing was just the beginning.
Clara and I talk about This Moment, the issue of guns in America and more, as well as how her acting career tiered on the edge of a cliff once she hit 40, and what she’s doing about it.

For this special Women of the Fringe episode, I'm speaking with Paula David. Paula tried to please her mother by studying accounting, but performance and eventually motherhood was in her blood.
A singer, writer and actor amongst other things, Paula brings her solo show, Blood, Sweat, and Vaginas about female sexuality, menopause and self-discovery to the Edinburgh fringe.

The Second Chapter special Women of the (Edinburgh) Fringe episodes!
Ever wondered how someone really ends up running away to join the circus? This week I'm speaking with Shayna Swanson, who fulfilled the stereotypical parental nightmare, forgoing a "traditional" career and joining the circus. But years of performing also led to years of struggle with body image. Having her son at 37 led to her directing for her circus company, Aloft Circus Arts. Aloft is performing Brave Space at Underbelly Circus as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Second Chapter special Women of the Fringe episodes!
This week, I’m speaking with Cynthia Shaw. Cynthia grew up in a small town in Colorado playing classical piano. After moving to new york as a student, she has continued throughout her life to add strings to her bow- going from musician to singer, actor, writer and performer. This month, she presents her solo show, Velvet Determination, at Greenside, Nicolson as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Because so many people enjoyed Erin Hunter's and Pauline Holmes' episodes, I've decided to do a special series of TSC episodes around Women of the Fringe. Over the next few weeks (starting with this episode), I'll be chatting with women who are bringing shows to Edinburgh Fringe - the world's largest arts festival!- after 35.
In typical TSC fashion, I'm excited to know about the changes their lives and careers have seen post-35 and how they're planning to make their mark amongst the 3500+ shows that will converge on Edinburgh in August.

Desk jobs, and horses and dogs, oh my!
This week, I'm speaking with Pauline Holmes. After 10 years at a desk job that hated, Pauline finally was free to pursue life beyond the desk. But a seriously scary horse-riding accident meant that she had to rethink her life and career once again.
Now, Pauline is a 60-something poet and storyteller with the "mind of a child and the wrinkles of someone much older". She will be bringing her award-winning slam poetry performance to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
