We are considering the question “how does an individual begin to change?” Change is central to Christian life. Yet so few find change in their lifetime. Last week we considered why we don’t see change and this week we consider how someone begins the journey. 

We look at the disciples in Luke 5:1-11 and see how they changed their lives completely. What was their process of change and what can we learn from them?

Change is central to Christian life. Jesus takes us from death to life. We once were blind, but now we see. I was lost, and now I am found.

Jesus changes our state, which should lead to change in our personal lives, family lives and communities, but many remain the same. Many people have the same issues they have always had. Why is that the case? Shouldn't we be seeing more transformation?

We are continuing our conversation on the past. We have looked at what we should do with our past, why we should do it, but not how to work through it.

How do we work through the difficult parts of us that seem to weigh us down? How do we work through the shame, guilt and regret? We look at the life of Peter and consider how Jesus reconciled his past with him.

As we think about this question again, I want to note that the question from last week had a lot of interaction. Our past can be difficult to handle and weighs many of us down.

As we think this week, we ask the important question of "why?" Why do I need to deal with my past? Why not ignore it and move on? For many, the best way to handle their issues is to move on. We like to make ourselves busy so we don't have to deal with it. 

Although we don't have all the answers, we believe scripture and people's experience can guide us. We look at Luke 14:25-34 and see what Jesus calls of us. Take time this week to write everything Jesus calls of us and consider how your past might stop you from living fully into it. One of the hardest challenges for a believer is loving themselves in the midst of their past. Our past can weigh us down, as we consider past mistakes, failures and setbacks that cripple us. How does a believer process their past so they are not hurt because of it? 

We look at Peter's reconciliation with Jesus in John 21 and consider how Jesus began the process of reconciliation.

Reading the Bible is foundation to Christian life. The bible is the basic instructions before leaving earth. Yet so many today do not open up their Bible.

Why have we lost a hunger for the Word? We look at 1 Peter 2 and Acts 8 to guide us in our conversation. Our prayer is that we as a church and we as a generation become hungry for the Word.

We are at a time when distraction are at an all time high. Phones, events, shows and social media give us easy access to an abundance of things that takes us away from things that matter.

In the midst of that, we have a desire for better. How do we manage the distractions? Does Jesus guide us in any way? We look at the parable of the rich man in Luke 12 to give us some guidance.

God has allowed us to live a wonderful life with potential for good. But many times we go against it by our choices and our rebellion towards God. 

Unity is one of the most powerful forces a person can experience. It is a force that makes family life heaven or hell. It is the force that determines how much we enjoy work. It is what allows for peace among countries in the world. 

What are the main ingredients of Unity and how can we see it in our world? To help answer this question, we look to the life of Jesus and consider his humility.

 What is the potential of a Christian? 

People live into potential they believe is possible. If someone thinks they will only make a B in a class, they will work towards that only. If someone thinks they’ll make a A, they will work towards that. We all are moving towards our potential in whatever we believe is possible.

But maybe we are missing things because we don’t consider what’s available. What is the potential of a Christian's life? We look at what's possible in scripture and consider the life of Jesus.

Are we able to live a full Christian life in the American Society?

Society impacts us whether we like it or not. How we dress, how we talk and how we spend our time are a few ways we are impacted by what others do. Christ has called us to a way of life that is very different than traditional life. Is American life compatible with Christian life? If so, how?

We will specifically be looking at being a Christian at the work place.
