  • Anna McNuff: 90 Marathons Across Britain in Her Bare Feet

Most people couldn’t dream of traversing the length of Britain on foot in even the sturdiest running shoes. But for Anna McNuff the distance alone wasn’t a big enough challenge: in June, she set out to run 100 marathons through the UK, barefoot. [21:26] This week Anna shares her tales of adventure, throughout a 5 month quest to spread positivity, encourage others to redefine their limits, and reach for the impossible.

[1:00] This week on The Rundown we bring you the shocking results of speed and depth from the roads.

[4:25] Nearly 400 men ran under 70 minutes at the The Ageo City Half-Marathon in Japan, in the hopes of qualifying for the prestigious Hakone Ekiden. Kate and Maddy discuss the history of Ekiden relays in Japan and (only half) joke about wanting to pursue a career as a professional Ekiden athlete.
[9:53] Letesenbet Gidey demolished the women's 15km world record by over a minute, running 44:19 in the Netherlands. Even more shocking, she closed in a blazing 29:12 final 10km, which is a world's best.

[13:11] The World Para Athletics Championships wrapped up in Dubai and Canada came away with 5 medals! Nate Reich won his first world title setting a 1500m championship record of 4:02:04.

[14:40] The NCAA Northeast Regional Cross-Country Championships were moved from the XC course to the roads because it snowed in Buffalo, NY. Maddy and Kate talk about the fact that almost every runner competed in the controversial Nike Next% and how this would have changed the race dramatically. They also rundown the Canadians competing at the NCAA XC Championships.

  • Olympic Dreams Come True at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

This week on The Rundown [1:10] Maddy Kelly and Kate Van Buskirk take a deep dive into the 2019 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) [1:21]. We also bring you results from the Amsterdam Marathon [20:43], the Cape to Cabot 20K [23:01] and Big's Backyard Ultra [24:36].

Our guests this week are newly named Olympians and Canadian Marathon Champions Trevor Hofbauer and Dayna Pidhoresky [31:36] Dayna and Trevor had remarkably similar storylines at this year’s STWM. Neither were favourites for the win, and they each ran nearly 7 minute PB’s to take the Canadian title and hit their Olympic qualifying marks. Both made big moves in the last 18 months, changing their training locations, coaches and lifestyles. And both came into this race as a last ditch attempt to prove to themselves and the nation that they belong on the world stage.

  • Sarah Wells and Sam Effah Redefine Their Limits on The Amazing Race Canada

This week we talk with runners up in The Amazing Race Canada, track stars Sarah Wells and Sam Effah. Although the duo fell just shy of the crown, they fought courageously throughout the competition and ended the race in a very close second place.

Sam and Sarah have been professional athletes for over a decade. But this race was unlike any they’d ever run. Earlier this week I sat down with these two to chat about competing on reality TV, the challenges and thrills they faced, and what they learned from the experience.

  • The Rundown Marathon Madness: Kipchoge Goes Sub-2, Kosgei Smashes the World Record!

Last weekend was arguably the most pivotal 2 days in marathoning history. Eliud Kipchoge proved his slogan of "no human is limited" by doing what many said couldn't be done: running under 2 hours in the marathon. Less than 48 hours later, Brigid Kosgei demolished the 16-year old women's world record by running 2:14:04.

This week we dissect these races, plus bring you all the action from the trails and cross-country courses.

  • Lyndsay Tessier's War of Attrition in the World Championships Marathon

Lyndsay Tessier shocked the Canadian running community last month by placing 9th at the IAAF world Championships marathon.  Lyndsay had never made a national team, she was ranked 34th in a field that included former Olympic champions, and she had to contend with unprecedented conditions. Not to mention that unlike her professional athlete competitors, she is a full-time teacher, and at age 41, she was one of the oldest women in the race.

Today, almost exactly one year after she came on The Shakeout to talk about her 2018 Berlin Marathon breakthrough, Lyndsay takes us through her stunning result at her first ever World Championships. She also reflects on the incredible community of masters women who make up the majority of Canadian elite marathoners.

  • How Mark Hanlon Redefined his Limits at the Under Armour Eastside 10km

The 6th annual Under Armour Eastside 10km kicked off two weeks ago. Nearly 2500 runners charged through downtown Vancouver en route to fast times and tons of fun. One of those runners was UA East Side VIP contest winner Mark Hanlon.

Mark had quite an unconventional journey getting to this start line, but then again, lack of convention defines his entire relationship with running. This week Mark shares his experience racing in Vancouver, and opens up about the challenges and joys he has faced throughout his running career.
