  • If it feels harder to book clients this year... that's because it is | How to stand out in an oversaturated market

Feel like it's harder to book clients this year than ever before? That's because it is.

I understand that panic, anxiety, and imposter syndrome are now sneaking in. It's like sailing uncharted waters, right? You're not sure what to do and where to go.

But guess what? You've got company on this journey.

As the online market keeps growing, there's a bunch of super talented coaches, designers, and copywriters etc joining the space with top-notch offers and savvy marketing.

    So businesses that:

    • Aren't totally nailing down their message
    • Lack a strong, unique niche
    • Aren't marketing consistently and are afraid to be visible online
    • Aren't nurturing an engaged audience
    • Haven't crafted no-brainer offers their ideal clients feel silly saying no to

Well, these folks might find their businesses slowing to a halt. (This can be changed though, so try and see this time as a challenge and not a threat.)

The UK saw a whopping 14% increase in new businesses since the pandemic hit. And as for the US? Well, I bet it's even crazier.

What's all this mean for businesses that were already in the game?

    • You're up against some serious competition - more than ever before.
    • Prospective clients have more options so they're shopping around.
    • Those tailor-made-for-YOU specialists? That's what everyone's after so you need to stop shying away from being specific in your messaging.
    • People are hiring the business owners they connect with on a human level, so one of the best ways to stand out online? Let your personality shine. (And no, I don't mean "be loud and extroverted." I mean let YOU shine.)

Let's dive into exact steps you can take to stand out in an oversaturated market, all while keeping your time and energy in check so online marketing doesn't start taking over your life.

  • The 5 main reasons you are not booking clients (& your Instagram marketing isn't working)

I see a lot of online business owners consuming a ton of content about how to go viral on Instagram, how to pitch in the DM's, how to get more followers...

But more followers and viral posts won't fix your business.

Because the real problems holding your business back are:

    1. Your refusal to niche down. I know some business owners are preaching the "you don't need a niche" message but from my perspective, all the students/clients I've had gained more clients and sales when they niched down. So, "to niche or not to niche" has a very simple answer.
    2. Market: Trying to market to 1759432 different people at the same time.
    3. Messaging: If your messaging is a hot mess and you're not consistently talking about specific results your ideal client can get through your specific approach, how are we supposed to have that "oh wow, this girl GETS me!" moment when we read your content?
    4. Offer: If you require people to reach out for a quote or you have packages but they're not evoking that "heck yes, take my money!" response... your offers need to change.
    5. You're trying marketing strategies for 2 weeks then giving up because you don't see results. You need to try something for 90 days consistently to get accurate data about whether it works for you or not.

I dive much deeper into each of these topics in today's podcast episode.

  • Instagram marketing bad for your mental health? Here's how to fix that (or get clients without Instagram) - #099

What do you do when you hate Instagram but... you kinda need it to market your online business?

Do you push through even though it feels bad for your mental health?

Do you go cold turkey even though it'll hurt your business?

Or is there another way to get clients? A way that doesn't involve social media?

Until lately, you may have noticed I went quiet on Instagram, only using my Instagram story and not posting to my feed very often.

Before this silence, I was doing pretty well on the app!

I had reels that were getting 1.5 million views.

I gained 800 followers from one post.

    Then 10,000 in a week.

    Everything was amazing, right?

Except the app felt like information overwhelm.

I wasn't following accounts that made me feel good about myself or my business. (Believe it or not, it was the other "slow business" accounts that were making me feel bleh, not the girlboss accounts!)

And Instagram just felt bad for my mental health.

I complained about the app for a while. Moaned to my sister. I blamed the algorithm, I blamed the creators, I blamed the evolution of the app...

Until I realized, it wasn't necessarily Instagram that was the problem.

It was my relationship to Instagram, my perspective of Instagram, and the way I was using it.

    In this episode I'm sharing:

    • 9 ways you're using Instagram that are the REAL source of your overwhelm. (It's not everyone's truth but it is for many.)
    • How I've changed my Instagram marketing so it's fun again!
    • How I batch 14 days of content once every 2 weeks (in just a few hours)
    • How to not be RELIANT on Instagram for leads and clients. (There's another solution.)
    • The major change I've made to where Instagram marketing now fits in my marketing funnel
    • Why you need to stop thinking like a content creator and think like an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs aren't on Instagram to get lots of followers and go viral, we're there to get clients and sales.

  • 3 lists to help you create your own definition of success & find your why - #097

Last week I went and stayed in an off-grid cabin in the woods by myself, then I car camped by the beach. (If you follow me on Insta you might have seen the amazing beach view I woke up to from the back of my car!)

It was a really transformative week... in fact, every time I go on a solo trip I seem to come home feeling like a different woman. Feeling like I really integrated big life lessons or uncovered new understandings about myself and life. Sometimes even unlocking new dreams and goals for my future.

I know this sounds "woo" but stick with me.

On this trip I made three lists that I think we can all benefit from making. Lists that helped me redefine what success means to me, what is most important in my life, what my purpose is (in AND outside my business), what fuels me, and what drains me.

    These are lists that can:

    • Ground you in YOUR definition of success when you feel bombarded by everyone else's online.
    • Help you do more of what fuels you and mindfully do less of what drains you.
    • Guide your decisions so that you make more choices from a place of love and growth, not fear.

In today's episode I want to talk you through how to make those lists for yourself. You can write them in 15 minutes and they'll impact you for a lifetime.

  • How I sold out a coaching program with just 30 minutes of marketing - #095

30 minutes of marketing was all it took to sell out the first 4 months of my coaching program as soon as I launched it.

I spent 15 minutes writing one email to my waitlist. And 15 minutes creating 1 Instagram story and sending a handful of DM's. (NOT cold DM's - please don't ever do that.)

So... how did 30 minutes result in 4 MONTHS of clients? With 75% of them choosing to pay in full and not need to hop on a free discovery call.

How did 30 minutes of marketing lead to HECK YES clients?

Tune in to this week's new podcast episode to find out!

    You'll learn:

    • The one thing solopreneurs DON'T want to hear about marketing. (But need to.)
    • How I use long-form content to build relationships with my community and turn followers into heck yes clients.
    • Why you should focus on your dream clients desires + dreams more than their pain points
    • How I got booked out from 1 email, 1 Instagram story & a handful of DM's. (Which all took about 30 minutes.)

  • Want to amaze your clients? You need these 3 simple systems in place - #093

We've talked a lot about marketing lately. So I felt it was important to pause and talk about something equally as important.

I see a lot of online service providers making this one mistake:

Putting ALL their time and energy into marketing or honing their service, and neglecting to put any effort into their client process.

To you, organizing your client process may seem boring or non-essential.

But to your clients, organization = professionalism.

A messy, unprofessional client process causes clients to doubt they made the right choice in hiring you, and question your experience. Do you think that would lead them to work with you again, leave a glowing testimonial, or refer others to you?

    Probably not.

If your client process is a mess, you are likely leaving THOUSANDS on the table in missed referrals and repeat work.

If you want to avoid making this mistake, tune in to this episode.

    You'll learn:

    • A step-by-step overview of what you should include in your client onboarding process.
    • 3 systems you need in your business if you want to amaze your clients.
    • Why you need a welcome page. (And what this is.)
    • What the S.T.A.R framework is and why this should make up your client offboarding process.
