This week we delve a little further into something I bring up quite a lot: decarboxylation, or decarbing for short. What does this organic chemistry have to do with getting us high and tapping into that endocannabinoid system (ECS)? Just like, everything! A little molecular change can open all kinds of new doors. This is a natural process we speed up with heat. And if you want the best brownies for your party or therapeutic needs, you need to know the best way to go about making them. In the Safety I talk about Bad Kitty Smiles incredible and widespread posting about how this process can be used for edibles and vape-ables. Since I've just finished capping off my own cannabis infused coconut oil concoction... Isn't alliteration grand? I also give you some tips for what I've learned along the way. Don't forget to take Weedmaps' survey!

Here's a good article for some pointers. But remember, the science is still up in the air.
Leafly has a pretty good write up, I thought, on THCA. A great starting place.
And then SC Labs coming in with some layman's science to help us better understand more of the major cannabinoids. I've enjoyed all of these, but wanted to spice things up with sending you to THCV ;)
Take the Weedmaps survey! (think it's gone now, but you can check out Weedmaps!)

Howdy! It's my first interview episode, and I'm so happy to have my friend Sue, from Soothing Sue's. Before I let you jump in on the session though, I gotta lay down some rules. Yes, there is weed etiquette. It's pretty lax though, I mean, we're a bunch of stoners. A lot of it varies with access, but the basics are... be a mensch! Like Sue, who I am happy to bring on so she can teach all of us a bit more about how to utilize mmj by discussing her products, Soothing Sue's edible massage oils, and (non-edible) body lotion. Unlike most medibles that are THC based products, her's focuses on THCA, which still holds a lot of surprises for me. As we Safety, I review my experience with it as a dessert topping, and why I'm so interested in her product as a patient.

Let's Spliff It! This session we get down with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is how weed works. But first, let's announce the winner of our Glass Giveaway!! Then back to ECS. As such a recent development, there will be tons of things to learn still, but a lowering curtain on the drug war and its theater of the paranoid and controlling has given way to some serious new information about how marijuana IS medicine! But we wouldn't have gotten here if it hadn't been for the drug war... Savor the irony. The karmic irony. This physiological system has widespread implications on our health, from the very beginning! Finding the right way to unlock the hidden magic behind this incredible bodily system isn't well understood, but we know there are TONS of methods to get through that looking glass. Smoking, vaping, topicals, eating... how do these different ways trigger these receptor sites? I go over some basic impressions to help you broaden your understanding and target your meds.
Looking for some back up links? You came to the right place!

Last week for our GLASS GIVEAWAY!! Sneakin' in another toke! This time to talk about one of the "dangers" of weed. It's true, the chronic can help you forget your troubles - but is that always the right move? Sometimes making a move is the better option (but, yeah, it's still more fun if I toke beforehand! Duh...) When medicating and healing, we're going to be changing in our mind and our body; Take the time to reconnect and reassess where you're at right now. The good news is, with so many options available with safe access -there's always a way to integrate cannabis back in! What you do today, might not be your best option for tomorrow though. Take a moment. You deserve it! And for entertainment's sake, I catch you up on what's going on with me, and a fond memory of bringing back some Amsterdam hash on a trip to England some years ago. Oh! And, results are back in. Everything's just fine guys. Didn't mean to leave ya hangin'!

A brief look into what to expect when you want to purchase weed. This one's for the newbies, certainly, but maybe I've got something I can still drop on the rest of ya? Gotta listen to find out! Oooooor I could just say WEED TAMPONS! Well, not really weed tampons, but definitely an inspiring new product for our ladies in distress. I dish a bit more about this tantalizing headline-making stuff. Then we get down to the retail. Some patients have never bought any weed ...EVER! Some have never bought more than an eighth but want to grow and sell to dispensaries. Maybe you're looking to interview for a dispensary job and want to sound like you've been slinging since birth even though you're still buying dubs? We're covering grams to pounds to satisfy them all. Do you know your weights? In the Safety we talk about every toker's BFF utensil, the Poker! Glass GIVEAWAY is still on! Don't forget to like and share, call or whatever! Listen to Ep 15 or 16 for more details. Thanks to Kevin Macleod for the smoking music on FMA, "Slow Burn"

Hey all, here for a quick session, which I'm titling Sneak A Tokes! This Toke we'll be discussing allergies to cannabis, and just what that entails. It's not the cannabinoids, so plenty of people will benefit from cannabis as medicine. They may need to be on the look out for the terpenes, pollens, molds and potential food allergies. Sometimes it's just the smoke being irritating. But don't worry! Really! No one has ever died from cannabis, and most allergies will be manageable for most. There are some serious issues, which are very important to create an awareness about. In the Safety, we revisit Kush Color by @SuperApplePie on IG. Even though I think I said sugar every time...

Everyone's talking about it, so why shouldn't we?! CBD! We start with Stoner Moments, touching back on a few past episodes this time. Then we head into the history and basic science of CBD aka Cannabidiol, the sister-cousin of THC. This includes how CBD works with our bodies, who should use CBD, what to expect when medicating with CBD rich or CBD dominant strains, how to identify CBD (TEST IT!) and a little politics to round it out. The Stanley Brothers are the poster boys of Medical Marijuana ...whether I like it or not, and Charlotte's Web is the lady behind them, making it happen. But she's not the only option!! There are so many unique and varied CBD laden strains being discovered and bred every day. And most importantly, we learn that CBD is not the miracle that so many wish it to be, and yet, it is. In the Safety we talk about hemp wick and why you should be using it! My favorite? Humboldt Traders, naturally. More details on our GLASS GIVEAWAY!! Comment to win!
Oh, and that formula? Was 0.8! 0.877 in fact. So the equation for expected THC is: %THCA(0.877)=Expected %THC

Pot Quiz: let's test some weed! But first, we go over some news, like my new answer for the old question, "has weed gotten more potent?" CA is getting ready to regulate, are you? And then Weedmaps. What.the.fuck, Weedmaps?! Don't you know how important testing is? I get blunt about serious oversights made by the popular website. Moving on, we talk about why testing is so important, how to read test results using an example from Steephill-Halent, and some of the new ways that testing is going to revolutionize how we find and think about our medicine. In the Safety ....It's a GLASSROOTZ GIVEAWAY! Find out how you could win!

I love trichomes! We take a closer look at what exactly those crystals on your bud are. Hint? They're filled with your meds! We talk about some things to look for when growing, or when checking out your local dispensary. Learn how to spot the best grown product. While terpenes orchestrate the experience, cannabinoids dial it up or down. We focus on phytocannabinoids, since we're Spliffin' it. With over 100 cannabinoids potentially in your weed you've got so much more than THC to think about. CBD may be the bell of the political ball right now, but the Entourage Effect deems it almost powerless without its buddies. And what's this THCA, CBDV, CBC?! It's not alphabet soup, that's part of your medicine! We finally sit down to Safety and talk about Dime Bags. No that's not a seed-filled, over-priced bag of b-grade, we're talking high quality (wink wink) premium goods at totally reasonable prices. Me and my Sherlock don't go anywhere without our Dime Bag!

We end the year with lucky 13, and a very personal entry of The Spliff that I hope you find useful. We Safety in the beginning as I give you an update of my review on Actitube filters. Then I talk about a recent bout of depression I've bounced back from, why I contribute so much of that success to cannabis and how I pay attention to my disorder as a way to find the best strains in the moment. By describing how I use cannabis as one weapon against depression, I hope to highlight how marijuana might be applied to you, no matter what your needs are! Medicinal cannabis is going to revolutionize the medicine industry because it can really target a patient's needs on a very "as needed" basis. While this isn't the best option for everyone, encouraging people to discover their own bodies well enough to target several issues is a great skill for everyone! From depression to PTSD, anxiety and bi-polar disorder, mental health and its treatment is in for a BIG change. Thanks for a great Spliffin' year!
