In today’s guest episode, we are extremely fortunate to be joined by someone who is arguably one of the best operators in their field. Kylie-Ann Haynes enters the bubble. Kylie-Ann (KA) currently works as a Freelance Sports and Event Producer, Show Caller and Floor Manager across many different sporting codes and organisations, which includes Cricket Australia, the National Rugby League and the National Basketball League.

We discuss with KA how she became involved in her current work, the key components of being a show caller or floor manager, how sports presentation has evolved over the years, and with the recent NRL Grand Final, discuss what’s involved in preparing for and presenting one of the biggest days on the Australian sporting calendar.

In this episode, we continue our 'Sport Student Series' where we have discussions with recent graduates and current students. We speak with Jordyn Becker who graduated from Deakin University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Business (Sport Management). Jordyn discusses her journey into the sports industry which began with a move interstate from Tasmania to Victoria. She discusses the importance of gaining experience in the industry whilst studying and talks about her roles with Event Workforce Group and as a volunteer at the 2019 Presidents Cup.

Since graduating Jordyn has managed to land a full-time position at Netball Victoria as the Competitions Coordinator and discusses how COVID-19 has impacted her role and how different work has been from a 'normal' year. She also talks about her rare achievement of holding a Guinness World Record with her the Generation Netball Club.

In this episode, we speak with our final professional of Girl Power Month powered by Big Dogg Clothing. We have the pleasure of speaking with Nat Edwards. Some of you may know Nat for her work around AFL media where she appears on multiple shows, podcasts, radio and TV coverage. Nat has been working as a journalist/presenter and editorial producer for the AFL since 2014 and has also balanced this with presenting for the Australian Open, working for Channel 7, 3AW and being a mother.

We learn more about the challenges faced in sports media, what she loves about her multiple roles and how she manages to create such a successful work-life balance. She is an absolute leader in her field paving the way for more women to enter and succeed in the sports media space.

She joins us from Queensland, and we get chatting about all things online study and volleyball. Lauren has had the pleasure of working many opportunities in the sport of volleyball, including at Volleyball Queensland and Volleyball Australia.

Lauren speaks about her time as a volleyball coach and how she has found working amongst mostly male coaches. She also mentions how she wants to pave the way for other females in the sports industry and make a difference.

Lisa chats about coaching, high performance and the best way to implement practices that are inclusive and well-rounded for athletes and staff alike. She also shares her goals of breaking the glass ceiling in coaching, where she aims to inspire others by coaching traditionally male-dominated sports.

In this episode, we continue our 'Sport Student Series' where we have discussions with recent graduates and current students. We speak with Zane Gelsi who is currently in his final year undertaking a Bachelor of Sports Media at Holmesglen. He has been very proactive throughout his studies, with multiple volunteer and internship positions across local sporting organisations, including the Ministry of Sport, Coburg FC in the VFL, and an upcoming role with Motorsport Australia and 1116SEN.

His dedication has led to an opportunity to work as a Video Edit Assistant within the AFL’s media team, working alongside media personnel like Damian Barrett and Nat Edwards. This is a fantastic opportunity for any prospective sports media and journalism students to hear from someone making the most of his opportunities at such an early stage in his career.

In this episode, we speak with the  National Recruiting Manager of the Adelaide Football Club, Hamish Ogilvie. Hamish joins us with a wealth of experience in the AFL world as he enters his 16th year with the Crows as part of the recruitment team. Hamish discusses his pathway to the industry and just how different and unrealistic it was to pursue a full-time career in the sports industry in the 1980's after graduating from school.

From part-time roles with Port Adelaide, 5 years at AFL Tasmania as State Development Coach and ample other coaching and development roles prior to working for the Crows, Hamish is respected as one of the most reliable and well-spoken industry professionals. He talks about all things development, coaching and the different aspects of his role such as the all-important National Draft night and how trades are initiated within the AFL.
