In this episode, we are extremely fortunate to be joined by Operations Coordinator at the Super Netball League, Ali O’Brien. With the Suncorp Super Netball season just kicking off, what better time is there to get an inside look at the inner workings of one of the most popular competitions in Australia. After interning at Netball Australia in 2019, Ali joined the Super Netball League ops team during the chaotic and challenging time that was the 2020 season.

We discuss her transition from the exercise science to management side of the sports industry, what she learned from her time as an intern at Netball Australia, the challenges and triumphs of a COVID impacted 2020 Super Netball Season and look ahead to the season ahead.

In this episode, we speak with  Amanda Jenkins, the Senior Manager at FIBA Oceania.  This was no small feat for Amanda, with an amazing career that lead her into this awesome position. After completing her studies of a double degree, post graduate degree and masters, it's fair to say Amanda has a plethora of knowledge and insights into the sports industry.

Amanda has held numerous positions in different and interesting roles, such as those at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust and at the Darebin Council,  among so many others experiences.  We chat with Amanda about her experiences in the industry, her opinion on the future of basketball and women in sport.

In this episode, we speak with  Mitch Coulson, the General Manager of Consumer Business at the St Kilda Football Club. Graduating from a bachelor's degree of Communication in 2008, Mitch wasted no time in landing his first full time role in the sports industry as shop manager at the Geelong Cats. 

Throughout his career, Mitch has held multiple positions at the Cats, Playcorp and the St Kilda Football Club which has led to his current role today as GM of Consumer Business at the Saints. Mitch touches on his philosophy of getting a foot in the door at an organisation and working extremely hard which ultimately led to the professional growth opportunities he has had at the Saints. Mitch also explores the environment and culture of an AFL club and how it compares to an organisation such as Playcorp who work with all 18 clubs.

In this episode we speak with Sean Callanan. Sean is the founder of Sports Geek and is well renowned in the sports industry for his expertise in the sports digital space and his passion for E-Sports. Sean throws himself at just about everything, currently balancing a range of projects and roles such as owning an E-Sports team called Gravitas, an E-Sports consultancy firm called Play Media, is on the commercial committee for the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup and running both a podcast and consultancy service through Sports Geek. 

We learn how Sean abandoned a 15-year career in IT development to follow his passion for sports and technology and how he successfully creates a work-life balance among his many projects and roles. We will also discover how his beloved Sports Geek started, how he has built his reputation on a global scale, and discover how he sees E-Sports continuing to grow through his experience with Gravitas and Play Media.

We speak with recent graduate Vincent Chungue who completed a double degree of Exercise & Sport Science/Business (Sport Management) at Deakin University. During his time at university, Vincent made the most of his placement opportunities by managing to land two different roles within the Melbourne Football Club which covered both sides of his degree. 

Vincent elaborates on how his placements and volunteer opportunities during his time at university grew his network within the Melbourne Football Club which ultimately led to his current role as a Football Analyst for the AFL and AFLW teams at the Melbourne Football Club.
