In this episode, we speak with Samantha Coppinger who is the Sports Dietician for the Western Bulldogs. Sam currently also works as a dietician for private clients at the Injury Clinic in Geelong. In addition, Sam previously worked as a Sports Dietician for the Collingwood Football Club (as a maternity cover).

We chat with Sam about her passion for food and dietician and how she spent her time during the year that was 2020 in the AFL hub.  Sam also explains a typical game day food schedule for us... hint: tensions over chocolate vs. strawberry milk ahead.

In this episode we speak with Naomi Maclean! Naomi currently works as the marketing director at Russell Corporation, which has a portfolio of brands like Spalding, Sherrin and Russell Athletic. Naomi is a fantastic role model for time management and organisation skills as she also balances part time work as a tutor at Deakin University, is a board member of the Deakin University Sport Management Advisory Board and a pilates teacher!

We learn how she achieves a successful work-life balance, discover what her day-to-day activities look like as a marketing director at Russell Corporation and also the importance of volunteering early in her career which set her up for success. We also touch on the topic of loyalty as an employee and what drives her to continue giving back to students through her time at Deakin University.

In this episode, we continue our 'Sport Student Series' where we have discussions with recent graduates and current students. We speak with recent graduate Cameron Gardner who completed  a bachelor's degree of Business (Sport Management) at Deakin University. Cameron made the most of his time at Deakin by taking advantage of the many opportunities presented to him, none more so than his initiative to take part in the Indian Sport Management Study Tour in 2019.

During his time at university, Cameron worked various roles at his local football club, Emmaus St Leo's and was lucky enough to land a position as Venue Manager at Social Sport. Cameron discusses the challenges involved with graduating from his degree in 2020 and how he approached applying for jobs post-graduation which ultimately led him to his current position as Operations Assistant at Cheeta Teamwear.

In this episode, we speak with Matt Soroczynski who is the Active Reserve Liaison Officer at the Cardinia Shire Council. Previously, Matt has been Assistant Coach of the Narre Warren Football Club u19's team in addition to coaching the senior football team at St. John's Regional College. Matt discusses his passion for coaching and how these experiences ultimately led him to land his current role at the Melbourne Football Club as Academy Assistant Coach for the youth girls. 

We chat to Matt about his choice to undertake a traineeship via AFL SportsReady rather than opting into the traditional university pathway. Additionally, Matt gives insight into just how much behind-the-scenes work is required to get local sporting competitions prepared prior to the season and touches on some of the challenges faced by the Cardinia Shire Council during 2020.

This week, we hear from Jasmine Speight who is currently studying a Masters of Exercise Physiology after completing a double degree in sports science, majoring in physiology. 

We discuss Jasmine's experience as an exercise scientist, her passion for the inclusion and growth of females in sport and her experience as an intern for the Melbourne Football Club AFLW, which lead to her attaining a job as the Head of Rehab for Casey Demons VFLW.

In this episode, we speak with someone who loves the chaos, Emily Stewart. Why does Emily love the chaos do you ask? Emily works as an Event Manager for the Melbourne Stars, who compete in what is arguably is the most chaotic fixture and schedule in Australian Sport. Why is Emily unique? Emily has achieved this at the age of 22 and prior to completing her undergraduate degree in sports business!

We discuss Em’s transition from a small town in rural Victoria to running events in a major city, how she established herself in the industry without completing her degree, her role at the Stars and what it was like working on the Big Bash this season and whether she thinks events will ever return to how they were pre-covid.

In this episode, we continue our 'Sport Student Series' where we have discussions with recent graduates and current students. We speak with Alexandra Byrne who is in her 3rd year studying the double degree of Exercise and Sport Science and Sport Management at Deakin University. Alex is a dedicated student and currently works with Deakin as a student ambassador for the Exercise and Sport Science degrees, promoting these courses to high school students.

Alex has been quite outgoing and open to working at multiple sporting events throughout her studies which include the Australian Open and Presidents Cup, which has helped her gain some fantastic skills and opportunities to network. She is also very passionate about women's sport and recently secured a role working as the Senior Women’s Football Coordinator at Beaumaris Football Club.

In this episode, we speak with Olympian turned Sports Industry Leader, Richard Vaughan. Previously, Richard has competed at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics in Badminton for Wales, become the CEO of Badminton Ireland and Squash Australia and a Non-Executive Director for the British Olympic Association. Currently, Richard works as a the Director of The Sports Consultancy alongside being a Non-Executive Director for Badminton Europe and Equestrian Australia.    

We chat through Richard's wealth of experience, including his transition within the sport industry from athlete to business man, what he believes are key constructs to successful governance and how living and working across the world has impacted his knowledge and insights.
