  • 014: Overcoming the Emotional Pain of Miscarriage

As mums, miscarriage has probably touched our lives in some way.

One in four women suffer miscarriage, probably more. So if you haven't experienced miscarriage yourself, chances are, you have a friend or relation that has.

I've had two miscarriages, both at opposite ends of the pain and suffering scale. The first was horrific, and the second, much less so. These words ring so true.

"I fell in love with you in my womb. Now I carry you in my heart instead of my arms"

I write through bleary eyes, even though it happened eight years ago.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about our experiences of miscarriage which we hope will help you, or someone you know, through it.

You'll always wonder who your baby would have been, but my sincere hope is that this will support you in your healing.

  • 013: The Outrageous Act of Fire-walking whilst Pregnant | Michelle Dawson

If you're a regular listener of The Friday Café, you might just recognise today's guest on Mum-to-Mum Monday.

Earlier this year, SuperMum, Michelle Dawson and her husband Nick attended 'Unleash the Power Within' in London, a four day conference hosted by Tony Robbins, the incredible American motivational speaker and self-development author.

Tony and his team tour all four corners of the globe each year with the event, and bring about huge life changes to the thousands of guests that attend his conferences.

And if you haven't heard of 'Unleash the Power Within', you'll certainly have heard about his famous Firewalk, where attendees walk barefoot over white hot coals. It's a symbolic experience that proves if you can make it through the fire, you can make it through anything.

Well, Michelle and her husband Nick, who had two boys aged 4 and 2 at the time went along in April this year when Michelle was 5 months pregnant with Rafferty who was born last month in August.

Like so many others, the experience changed their lives dramatically, and Michelle is here today to share her incredible story.

And so impressed was I by Michelle in her interview, and her attitude to her life as a mother, I invited her to co-host The Friday Café each week. I love that this episode will give you an opportunity to get to know her a bit better.

Listen now to find out whether Michelle did the Firewalk literally whilst barefoot and pregnant.

  • 037: Discover How to Set the Burning Desire in Your Belly Ablaze | Kate Greenstock
If you’re a mother, then you’re already having an impact on the world. Yes indeed-ee.
    [Kate Greenstock]

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday, we’ll be discovering how to set the burning desire in your belly ablaze.

As a busy mum with competing demands and limited time you often feel torn and pulled in different directions. You pour out so much of yourself, your emotions, your energy into your family. It can feel like you’re carrying so much, but at the same time being ‘unproductive’ in the world’s eyes, despite wanting to make your mark.

But we’re going to give you another perspective.

My guest today is SuperMum Kate Greenstock

Kate, her husband, and their three children, who are 13, 11 and 7, live near Richmond Park in Greater London where she loves to breathe, cycle and deer stalk. Transitioning from a calling-the-shots career woman, to being a mother with no rule book to follow, proved to be more of a challenge than Kate expected.

But she found a solution, and along with it, her calling to help other mothers who were also feeling lost in motherhood.

At Wild Rubies, Kate helps mums to feel like they’re truly living, rather than just existing; re-discovering themselves and re-imagining their work lives in the process.

If you’re tired of being seen as just a worker or just a mother, Kate will help you find a way forward. Then you get to be seen by the world full and whole, and in creative technicolour.

Kate gives you permission to take the space to breathe and find the clarity needed to set your eyes on what’s ahead for you.

I’m so excited to welcome Kate to my show because she will teach you to be more like your children - incomplete, imperfect, curious, daring, outrageous and completely loved - and in doing so, fuel that fire in your belly.

Why understanding our own core beliefs and values acts as a foundation stone for the way we are as women and mothers
Kate's opinion of change and how we can better handle change in our lives
How as mums we can connect with our instincts to find our ‘thing’

  • 011: Give your heart eyes | Victoria Kate

Today's episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about fulfilling your goals and ambitions – the key word being fulfilling. That's right, we take those dreams right out of your head and make them come alive.

My guest today is SuperMum, Victoria Kate. Vicky and her 9 year old son Finley live just a stone's throw from the beautiful beach in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England.

Vicky is living proof that our dreams really can come true as she follows her life long passion to work for herself as a Life Coach whilst looking out from her desk to the sea. And after 24 years of having the dream of being an author in her head, she is finially writing the book that she's always wanted.

Today, Vicky will 'give your heart eyes', as she so eloquantly puts it. One of the foundation stones to this is learning to understand what your goals really are and making them your own.

Not what your family, or your partner or society think your goals should be. Just you.

This way, when you attain them, you'll finally be truely fufilled, rather than left cold and wanting the next big thing.

Through the use of positive thinking and visual images Vicky will step us through the process of how to be successful in achieving everything our heart desires, and not be restricted by limiting beliefs.

Using the metaphore of a lighthouse, Vicky will teach us how, as a mother, it's important to keep our own light shining strong and bright so we can light the way for our children rather than casting dark shadows behind us and letting them find their own way.

When things go wrong, don't go with them
    [Elvis Presley]

My son hurling a mini quiche at the String Quartet last weekend was not my proudest mummy moment.
Now I know small boys and String Quartets are not good bed fellows, but then it's not every day your mother-in-law turns 80.
Some things you just don't want to miss out on.
But does that incident (and the cringe-worthy list of others that preceded it) make me a bad mother (even though it felt like it at the time)?
    Heck, no!

I'm real. I'm normal. I'm learning. And I'll try harder next time.

    This weeks challenge:
My challenge for this week is to prepare yourself mentally for the difficult moments that will inevitably arise.  We’ve all had them. It will always happen and will do again, so be prepared! Remember the one thing you can control is that little voice in your head.

    Tell me what you think?
Tell me in the comments. How do you feel when your kids are being rat bags? Are you thinking negatively about how other people perceive you? Or are you positively spurring yourself on inside your head? Do you tell yourself this nightmare will be over soon or do you struggle to see light at the end of the tunnel?

    Be grateful.

    Say thank you.

We say it to our children all the time.

But are we practicing what we preach?

There is so much sunshine in our life, so much to be grateful for.

But we get so busy, we often don't notice.

When things go wrong it's easy to notice. The frustrations. The annoyances. The tiredness.

But finding things to be grateful for takes skill, and a change in mindset.

Helen Keller kept her face to the sunshine despite not being able to see or hear.

    Can you do the same?
