Had to do it! Like every golf podcast under the sun, we are here to hop on and chat about the LIV-PGA merger and what we think about how things have gone down so far. This has been a wild ride for everyone, and we wanted to have a 4 way chat with our friends over at Sticks Golf to discuss what we're thinking about what this means for the game going forward based on what we know at the moment.

NCAA Golf was a hot piece of the golf landscape over the last few weeks and we consumed A LOT of it. As the years have gone on, more and more people seem to be really intrigued by what is going on in the college golf space; however, the communication through the broadcast of the format, who the players are, and the overall context of the championship just flat out needs to be better.

While some of the the people who have been involved in putting the broadcast on have been great additions to the championship, there are many people who are not involved directly that could add so much more value to the championship which is what today's conversation will center around. While the product has been strong and gained more traction overt the years, we believe it could be a lot better and there is a lot of further growth to be seen with the NCAA championships.

These are some of the more subtle features in a golf course that often may or may not be discussed at as much length as other aspects when we value a golf course for its architectural merits. That said, these are some of the features of courses that take good courses and make them great, and make the elite ones as described.

The best part of pro golf or any pro sport is the figures we follow and how they develop as characters over time. This game certainly has many of them, but arguably none better than Rahm and Brooks in the current landscape of the game.

These are two guys who have had long careers in the spotlight, a ton of success, plenty of controversy, and have changed who they are and how they want to be seen many times throughout their careers.

To us, what makes each of these guys really intriguing as characters is that by in large their guiding light as athletes who live in the public light is simply authenticity. While sometimes they may curate answers and acts to the public, by in large they live by who they are, and allow people to take it or leave it.

We talk a lot these days about pace of play and it's importance to the professional golf product. How it make pro golf more or less enjoyable to watch, whether there are steps that need to be taken to speed the game up, and a whole lot more.

The conversation that often gets lost on us all is how the pro game and the pace of play we see out there trickles down into lower competitive levels as well as just the recreational game. Today, Andy I and break down how what we see out on tour affects what we see in all levels of the game and why the pace of play conversation matters to all of us who are golfers. While it would be great to see PGATour rounds take 20% less time, what would really be awesome is to see recreational golfers have more ability to get a round in that doesn't take all day.

Andy I and come up with a few solutions/breakdown some of the common discussions around the pro game and what can be done out there, as well as raise a few points around the recreational game and how we can try to speed things up for the regular golfer through changing the narrative on spending money to spend time on a golf course as well as the level of respect golfers have for one another from a standpoint of holding people up on course.

That said, this episode is not meant to berating of Tommy Fazio and our less than favorable opinion of his architectural style. More so, we are here to talk about Quail as it pertains to competitive golf, as well as the architectural merits of the course.

Is Quail our favorite golf course in the world? Nope. Would we want to play it every day? No chance. Are there many things that could make it better. Yes. Hammer the yes. But, BUT, as a PGA Tour course, its pretty damn good. It asks the right questions of players and tests them actually the way you would hope a PGA Tour course would.
