The Tie Podcast

Can't believe we've made it all the way to episode 150 of #mudballmonday. If you've been here for all 150, you're a legend.

Today we're keeping it simple and leaning on the 3 tenants of culture, competition, and architecture. We each give a superlative within those 3 buckets for the year of 2024 and talk about something making us excited for the future of the game in each category. As per usual, some other fun stuff makes its way into the mix as well.

Hope you all enjoy this conversation.

The second edition of our travel show, Strike Mission, is in the books! This time we made our way up to Traverse City to check out courses new, old, public, private, explore the local food scene of course, and as always have some friendly competition.

The full video will be released in the coming months on the Sticks Golf youtube (link below) but until then we will be feeding instagram content to tease the action!

Hope you all enjoy this conversation.

In this conversation, Henry interviews Katie Craig, a women's golfer from Western Kentucky University who is currently participating in Q School. They discuss Katie's experience at Q School, her path to and through college golf, her interest in golf course architecture, and her future plans in the industry. Katie shares her favorite golf courses she has played, including Lost Key and Bel Air Country Club, and expresses her desire to design her own course in the future. She also mentions her dream of playing the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.

Even though it may not feel like all that important of a week, we have made it to the final week of the year on tour and we are here to break down the tour championship and what to expect from the week. A lot of different players with a chance this week and it doesn't feel like any one player has identified as playing the best right now.

On top of that, we have a newly renovated East Lake that is worthy of a bit of coverage. So today, we'll be doing just that. Chatting players with a chance, who is likely to win, and what to expect from the renovated East Lake.

Geoff is back to talk this time about his top events of the 2024 season and bounce ideas back and forth with Henry about what made some of this season's better golf special!

Each guy has come prepared with their top 4 events of the 2024 season and why they think that was the case. Geoff travels to many of the game's top events whereas Henry is an at home viewer so that comparison and contrast of those provides a fun extra layer to the episode!

Definitely getting way out ahead of this one, but I hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as we did thinking through it.

It's one thing to predict major champions a season in advance or even ryder cuppers a couple years out, but ot predict players in 4 years to be on an Olympic team is quite the task. A lot of thinking has to go into the ages and profiles of who has made it so far and therefore a lot of limbs have to be gone out on to have any chance of being right with these picks!

Hope you all enjoy this conversation.

Mac Todd was a high level junior and collegiate golfer who, as you'll learn in this conversation, lost his passion for his own golf game multiple times across his career yet never lost interest in helping others improve their games.

From teaching at ranges, clubs, and golf performance stores, Mac has been in the golf performance space for a long time, all building to the current day version of Urban Golf Performance. UGP is an end to end golf performance studio with everything from club fitting and swing work to fitness and recovery protocol. Their current clientele includes guys like you and me just trying to get a bit better to many of the world's best players such as Collin Morikawa.

First time in a while we are leaning into a fully culture centered MBM, but here we are.

A user submission episode, today we're talking about the different players needed on an ideal guys golf trip. What each of these people bring to the table, how they balance out and complement the other players, and most importantly, we will finish with a "don't be that guy" call out for the person to avoid being on a golf trip.

This is a feel good episode that hopefully gets you excited for a final trip of the summer or something planned for this fall.

We have officially returned with House Theory Thursday! It's been some time, but we are here to hash out another one.

With Walker in Traverse City for the summer, Crystal Downs is a golf course he has been laying eyes and bogeys on frequently so we are using that as a chance to return to HTT and compare it to another (fringe) Mackenzie in Cal Club.

Many think Crystal Downs is a top 20 course in the country. Many think Cal Club is rather underrated being just within the top 50. Is that enough for it to perhaps challenge CD? Tune in to fine out!

With the Olympics now behind us once again, we have decided to take the space today to have the conversation around whether we think the argument as to whether the Olympics should be considered a major has any legs.

There are great reasons as to why it should be a major, but equally reasons as to why it shouldn't. In typical #mudballmonday fashion, we're here to hash it all out and give you our thoughts on each side of the debate.

Hope you all enjoy this conversation.
