The Triathlon Age Group Journey

Boy are we excited for Matt and Jillian!!  Hear about their race experience at 70.3 Coeur d'Alene which we turn into a tutorial about the process of qualifying and planning a trip to a world championship race!  

What?  This is a triathlon podcast, why are we talking about strength training?  Don't we just care about getting faster at swimming, biking, and running?  Well, yes we do!  But we also want to stay healthy doing what we love and maybe get faster in a more efficient way!  Between the three of us, we cover the full spectrum of excuses of why we can't seem to do as much strength training as we would like, but maybe after listening to this episode, everyone will learn something that will help them incorporate it a little more in your training plan.

We are so excited to go back to our season 1 roots and bring a guest on to share their journey.  We hope many of you will recognize this guest's name as he is the co-host of the very popular, That Triathlon Life Podcast.  Nick Goldston is a very accomplished age group triathlete and we wanted to really dive deep into his journey and hear how he came to love the sport of triathlon.  This is a special conversation with some very cool insights that we all can learn from.

Unfortunately, many of us do not live in locations that triathlon races are normally conducted.  On top of that, many of us have to travel for work and at the very least for vacation.  So how do you balance triathlon with travel?  How do you make it a little less stressful so you don't add to your training fatigue?  Matt, Jillian, and Jay combined have travelled tens of thousands of miles by car and plane.  You will undoubtedly learn a few hacks for living the age group life while traveling to your next destination!

If you listened to the last few episodes, you probably knew what we were going to talk about next...  the run!  Jillian leads the boys in a discussion about the third discipline of triathlon.  Things got, lets just say, personal during this episode... you have to listen to find out!  Like the bike, we just scratched the surface, so we have much more to cover in a future part 2 episode!

Oh my goodness!!  The longest leg of triathlon has so much to unpack, doesn't it!  Matt, Jay, and Jillian have only begun to scratch the surface of riding bikes!  We are calling this part one because we will no doubt need to dedicate another episode in the future to bikes.  Hopefully though, this episode will hit some topics that many of you will appreciate!

For many age group triathletes, swimming is their biggest weakness.  For Matt, Jillian, and Jay, it is no different!  We are mesmerized by the few that have been swimming since they were teens or younger.  They make it look so easy!  We hope everyone will take something away from this raw, fun, and exposing discussion of how we have come to enjoy swimming and maybe get just a little bit faster with every year that goes by!

Recovery means a lot of things in the sport of triathlon.  Recovery may be the time dedicated within a workout between intervals, a day off, what you do between workouts in the same day, or even what you do to prepare for a race.  Matt, Jillian, and Jay talk about all their favorite means and methods to letting the body get stronger... that is the real reason for recovery!
