So far on the podcast we've had plenty of guests and some world class athletes and coaches. But, we've yet to have an olympian on the podcast, that is until now. Thankfully for the guys, Coach Ronald Forbes the Volunteer Assistant Coach at FIU, is a 3 time Olympian for the Cayman Islands. Coach Ron was very open to talking about his humble beginnings of the sport, like when he had to run to his local track for practice and then run back home after. We touch up on his successful career and how he's dealt with adversity.
On this week's episode of The Underground Running Project, David and Danny answer a listeners email asking about advice for coaches getting started. Kind of a lot to ask for from 2 rookies to coaching, but they give it their best shot. They talk about what they've learned so far in their short careers and what advice they can give to others.
Many people don't get to see what really goes on in a professional runner's life. We see the medals, the wins, and the fast times, but what is it that these elite athletes are actually doing to prepare themselves for the big races. Justin Britton is a professional photographer and co-founder of the business A Runners Eye, who constantly travels across the U.S. and the world to take pictures of the greats during their training sessions and races. He gives us an exclusive look at his job and a new perspective that not a lot of people know much about.
The guys break down what's to come this week and in the coming weeks for the podcast after some technical difficulties.
When people talk about legacy's you think of the greatest teams who were consistently going above and beyond. The Pep Guardiola era Barcelona, The Zidane Era Real Madrid, the current Golden State warriors, and Bill Belichick's Patriots. You could say the same about the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks. After 3 successive National titles in cross country you start to mention them in the same sentence as the greatest ever to do it. On this weeks podcast we welcome Matthew Baxter former lumberjack and newly turned pro runner. We talk about his experience as a lumberjack and what was going on during these past 3 years of greatness.
Jonathan Mederos is the online coach for Steadfast Running. On this weeks episode David and Danny pick Jonathan's brain on the science behind coaching as well as the art of coaching. They cover topics like periodization of training, excess anaerobic training, and improvements that can be made to coaching.
David Ribich was a 4:10 1500m and 2:04 800m runner in High School. The thought of going pro was always in the back of his head, but he knew he had to put in a tremendous amount of work to get to that level. With the help of tremendous coaching and his patient approach to training, he progressed over the years. He now has the 1000m, 1500m, and 3000m DII records. Having just signed his first professional contract with Brooks, he has shown that with the right attitude dreams can become a reality. On this episode of The Underground Running Project, David our host interviews David Ribich and breaks down his career and progression over the years as well as his new book, Small School Big Dreams.

On this week's episode of The Underground Running Project, we were lucky enough to have American distance prodigy Drew Hunter as a guest on the podcast. Drew was the 3rd high schooler to ever go sub 4 in the mile and is now known as the ballsy kid who went straight from the high school ranks to the professional level after signing with Adidas. He talks to us about his transition to the Pros, his insane mental strength and the Tinman Elite training group.
