  • 26: All Things ADHD

ADHD is one of those hot topics on social media that is often trending but misunderstood. As therapists who see clients with ADHD regularly, and therapists with our own diagnoses, we hope this episode is helpful in identifying what ADHD is and how you might see this showing up in yourself or the people in your life. And as ADHD impacts nearly every part of functioning, there are so many trailheads to navigate. We will be covering more of these in future episodes, but if you have any particular interests or questions related to ADHD, send us a message! We'd love to hear from you!

  • 25: Things People Are Afraid to Tell Their Therapist

It's one thing to feel comfortable enough to share your worries and your joys with your therapist. It's a whole other thing to feel comfortable enough to share those parts of you that no one else gets to see; the embarrassing moments, the traumas you've experienced, the things you're most ashamed of, the parts of you that you worry will be judged most harshly. In this episode, we share some of things that people are most afraid to tell their therapist. And full disclosure, there are a lot of sensitive subjects that come up in this conversation: suicidal/homicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse, substance use, and more. If these are triggers for you, please skip ahead and be sure to prioritize your mental health.

Katrina shares her perspective on EMDR, how it's used by therapists, her work with clients, and some personal anecdotes. While EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) has risen in popularity in the past decade, there's good reason for that.

This week we showed up to record without a plan. There were some technical difficulties, sound issues, and some very random questions for each other. What a ride!

In the episode, we mentioned several books that we love or have read recently. Here's the list:

How to Love Better - Yung Pueblo

The Emotionally Absent Mother - Jasmin Lee Cori

A Way of Being - Carl Rogers

Introduction to Internal Family Systems - Richard Schwartz

    Untamed - Glennon Doyle

    Bittersweet - Susan Cain

  • 17: Self-Care and Following Through With Recommendations in Therapy

This week we're changing things up a bit. We're challenging each other to some self-care activities/ideas to implement so that we can really get into the barriers that clients face when this comes up in therapy. Lots of times we notice that clients don't follow through with their own, or collaborative, ideas or goals to care for themselves so here's to taking a closer look at why that might happen.

Plus, I (Kay) go down a rabbit hole (cue the ADHD brain) that might be very interesting to you. It definitely was for me. I have been so excited about learning this about myself and the way it's impacted my life. Seriously. This has changed so much for me. If you have ADHD you may be fascinated and want to do your own research.
