The Unseen Podcast

This episode is out of our usual fortnightly schedule however as you will hear in the episode, I am moving to 3 episodes per month with a week break so I can try and include more missing person cases. This is the first of these missing person episodes!

On the 25th of June 1997, 45 year old Ann Myring left her job at Hewlett Packard close to her home in Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire. She returned home but the next day her two sons heard that she had gone to visit a health farm for the weekend. On Monday they then heard that she had left their Dad and that she was missing. Ann never returned and she hasn't been seen since. Despite an arrest and a trial, no one knows what happened to Ann Myring.

On the 5th of November 1988, 74 year old Harry Howell was seen out and about in the town of Blackpool where he lived. Harry was sociable, loved to put on a bet and go for a pint but he was also a creature of habit and enjoyed his usual routine. It was thought that he had gone home that night as usual nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Around 2 weeks later though his battered body was found in his flat. He had been murdered and everyone now looked at that day, the 5th of November, a little differently. Harry's murder is sadly still unsolved.

On the 24th of November 1980, the body of 19 year old Jenny Ronaldson was recovered from the River Thames close to the area of the Isle of Dogs close to what is now Canary Wharf. Jenny was a devoted and reliable nurse who worked at Guys hospital who told her colleagues on the 26th of October that she was going sightseeing to Petticoat Lane Market in Spitalfields after her shift. They never saw her again. Jenny's murder is still unsolved but has been speculatively linked to some of the most infamous killers in UK history; the Railway Killers.

On Friday the 12th of May 1978, a fire was noted at a garage in Small Heath in Birmingham. When fire crews arrived and put out the fire, they discovered a gruesome scene. They found a man lay under a van and he had a gunshot to his face. This man was found to be Bill Simpson who owned the garage. This was a murder scene but the police could find no motive for anyone to murder this hard working family man. Bill's murder is still unsolved today.

On the 28th of December 1992, 23 year old Steven Clark went on a walk with his Mum Doris to the beach in Saltburn in North Yorkshire. He made a trip to the public toilets when he arrived at the beach and when he didn't come out his Mum assumed he had just returned home. He had not and that day he seemed to just vanish into thin air. Steven hasn't been seen since and his case has taken many bizarre twists and turns in the 30 years since he disappeared.

Day 11 of 12 days of missing person cases in December.

On the 15th of December 1900, the ship Fairwind was passing by the Flannan Isles, a set of 7 islands in the outer hebrides in Scotland. There was a violent storm that night and the waters were choppy. The crew were shocked to see that the light was out at the Flannan Isle lighthouse located on the biggest island called Eilean Mor and there was nobody helping them to navigate the dangerous waters. A relief keeper went out on the 26th of December to swap over and give the 3 keepers on the lighthouse some more provisions. Relief Keeper Joseph Moore was shocked to the find the lighthouse deserted and the 3 keepers disappeared without a trace.
