In this episode we WadeOutThere with George Daniel from Central Pennsylvania. George has been fly fishing in Pennsylvania since he was a child, and began fishing with and learning from his fly fishing mentor, Joe Humphries, as a teenager.
George says he always wanted to combine fly fishing and education, and it’s easy to see he has delivered on that mission. His work throughout the years as a guide, author, and competitive angler has culminated in his current role as director of Pennsylvania State University’s Fly Fishing Program.
We discuss George’s perspective on the benefits of Penn State's Fly Fishing Program for its students and graduates, as well as its relevance for society’s future leaders. We also talk about the importance of goals on the river, situational awareness, and some of the habit patterns George applies to fly selection, reading water, casting, and fighting fish. Finally, George and I dive deep into finding “Flow” in fly fishing.
