The boys are back and all over the place with this episode. This week’s show is a mixed bag of everything from Gunnar Henderson’s MVP pace, to hot dog eating contests. The boys kick off the show addressing the absolutely DEVASTATING news that Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will not be competing in the annual Nathan’s hot dog contest on the fourth of July due to a conflicting sponsorship deal with Impossible Meats. Dante and Josh are both outraged over this, as should every other American sport enjoyer, and explain why this is frankly unconstitutional. Sticking in the realm of American-centric sports, the boys are talking soccer. This week, the topic of their footy discussion revolves around the USMNT and, more specifically, the head coach. Josh kicks off this part of the show by getting on his soap box and asking the question, “why is Gregg Burhalter the head coach of this team?” and frankly he has many points. The mismanagement of arguably the best crop of talent this country has ever seen is only scratching the surface when it comes to GGG’s inexcusable lack of results in his tenure as coach. The boys take this conversation into the deep end diving into the US Soccer Federation and why they believe the decisions made, along with the prioritization of the MLS over the USMNT, is soulless and should be considered organizational malpractice. All this to say that the USMNT are winning IN SPITE of GGG, not because of him (a lot like a beloved Baltimore team helmed by a unanimous MVP). Moving away from soccer, college basketball made some headlines this week as UConn head coach Dan Hurley was rumored to be “zeroed in” on by the Los Angeles Lakers, only for Hurley to confirm a day later that he will be returning to UConn. Josh and Dante explain why this is ultimately good for all parties involved, especially college basketball as a whole. Transitioning over to the Baltimore teams, the Orioles have been WHITE HOT over the last two weeks, seeing production from their usual suspects as well as a catalytic effort from… the bullpen! O’s relievers have posted incredible numbers in the 13 game stretch of late and we finally have to give them love. Gunnar Henderson continues his MVP campaign only adding to his insane pace on the year. The injury bug has bit the O’s yet again as Danny Coulombe heads to the IL, but Jorge Mateo is activated and Dean Kremer is rumored to be making a rehab start in the near future. The Baltimore Ravens have begun their mandatory minicamp and have all their key players in attendance (shocker). Ronnie Stanley has much to prove, however we believe he can return to form. Lastly on sports, it’s a major championship week which only can mean one thing… Scottie Scheffler no matter what. The boys are back this week with an absolutely loaded episode full of miscellaneous sports happenings to talk about. Dante kicks off the show discussing his newest hobby and how it falls right in line with Chet Hanks’ proclamation for the upcoming “white boy summer.” Josh starts off the show recapping his weekend, which included a local rave in an abandoned warehouse (how cliche) but tells a story regarding one of the most interesting t-shirts, and characters wearing said shirt, he’s ever encountered. Diving into the sports talk of the week, the Baltimore Orioles have officially kicked off their toughest month of the season, and have done so valiantly. Winning two of three in each divisional series at home against Boston and Tampa Bay, as well as winning the first two in Toronto, the O’s are showing that they are still the team to beat in the AL East. Dante and Josh take a look at the upcoming weeks for the Orioles and why this month will still be a very daunting test for them. In unfortunate news, GM Mike Elias announced that pitchers John Means and Tyler Wells are done for the season with arm injuries. John Means had Tommy John surgery for the second time in three years, and as he heads into free agency, it could mean the end of his tenure as an Oriole. The boys talk about Means and what he’s done for this team, and ultimately why they are eternally grateful for being the lone bright spot in otherwise dark times for this franchise in recent history. Moreover, in light of this news, Dante implores Orioles fans to stay calm as we wait for a trade, or multiple trades, to happen because this all but forces Elias’ hand to make some moves for pitching reinforcements. On a more positive note for the birds, another top prospect has hit the roster. Infielder, and long discussed prospect, Connor Norby has officially made it to the bigs! Jorge Mateo went to the concussion IL, opening the door for Norby to finally make his major league debut… and he capitalized with a home run in his second game. The boys are pumped about Norby finally being up and just hope that he’s here for longer than a week. On the football side of Baltimore, the boys jump into some “football city” discourse as Patrick Queen is making headlines. The former Raven has made some statements in recent weeks, but none that have ruffled more feathers than his most recent: Pittsburgh has better food than Baltimore. In non-Baltimore related sports news, Justin Jefferson got BROKEN OFF signing a 4 year extension with the Minnesota Vikings that makes him the highest paid non-QB in NFL history. The boys break down why this contract is actually incredible for the Vikings, and why Jettas is worth every penny. Also, thanks to CJ Stroud’s recent appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, the boys embrace debate: would you rather have Eli Manning or Aaron Rodgers’ career? Both the NBA and NHL finals matchups are set and the boys give their feelings on the matchups, and why the USA has the chance to do the funniest thing ever. Real Madrid wins the Champions League, because of course they did, and Josh gives a little history lesson on why Real will seemingly never have a bad team. We wrap the show with some music recommendations for “what are we listening to” and the boys send us all into what will hopefully be the best weekend of our lives. On this week’s episode, the boys jump into their weekly conversation exactly like we all expected: talking lacrosse. Josh’s weekend consisted of, in his words, “watching the Terps lose another championship” after falling to the, now, back to back champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This leads the boys into a trip down memory lane talking high school, college, and professional lacrosse, including Dante recounting one of the best live sporting events he’s ever witnessed. After a rigorous discussion about the Maryland-backed religion that is the twine, the boys offer their condolences and say a few words on the Pac-12 legend Bill Walton who tragically passed away this week. Both Josh and Dante have their own thoughts on the life that was extremely well-lived by Walton, and they take some time at the start of the show to eulogize the Legend. Staying in the world of college athletics, the NCAA is involved in a class action lawsuit in which a ruling will require them to pay millions of dollars in back pay to student athletes. Additionally, the ruling will allow power conferences to pay their athletes beginning in 2025. The boys give the information they know as of now on the matter, as well as their thoughts as to what this will mean for the future of College Football. As a pro-student athlete show, Dante just wants to keep the tradition and heart of college football alive, and Josh explains why he believes the sport we know and love will or won’t be affected. Diving into baseball this week, the Orioles’ regular season sweepless streak is now over. Dante gives his thoughts on why this was a “big fat nothing burger” even though getting swept by the Cardinals is never what you want in a series. Josh also, allegedly, has his manhood in a vice grip… don’t worry, he explains why and how. Cole Irvin returned to the starting rotation following Dean Kremer heading to the IL, and he continued to shove in another excellent outing Monday afternoon. Kyle Stowers is finally getting more playing time, and it’s no secret as to why. Mike Elias made a trade to acquire a bullpen arm, but unfortunately it didn't pan out in Thyago Vieira’s first appearance with the O’s. Lastly, the boys get mad about a list. Josh and Dante dive into a very contentious discussion about Apple Music’s top 100 albums, and trust me when you say you do not want to miss this. They wrap up the show with their song recommendations based on what they’re currently listening to, and they send all of you beautiful people into what will hopefully be the best weekend of your lives. On this week’s episode of the show, the boys start the program just as we all thought they would: talking Premier League soccer! Josh explains the emotions felt as a Liverpool fan on the EPL’s final day of the season, gives a very nice sendoff to gaffer Jurgen Klopp, and explains why Man City is essentially the Golden State Warriors of the EPL. Moving into the Baltimore sports talk of the week, the boys jump back into the Orioles as, after last week, it seems the bats have awoken and started putting up some runs. Dante and Josh take a look at the last couple games for the O’s and what’s been working for them over the last week. Unfortunately, the problem is still the problem as the bullpen still can’t seem to get their issues figured out. Grayson Rodriguez delivered a gem on Saturday in his return, which was inevitably for naught as the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. The boys explain why we are now entering trade season and Mike Elias should be taking the temperature of potential trade suitors around the league. Lastly on the O’s, Corbin Burnes delivered as the O’s have expected him to do, and this time he finally got some run support. Moving on to the Ravens, the 2024 NFL schedules were released last week, and the Ravens lead the league with six (6) primetime games. The boys take a look at the schedule and why they actually believe there are more wins out there for the Ravens than most pundits around league media. For some bonus NFL chatter that we’re all clamoring for, the boys take a quick look at the rest of the AFC North, as well as the major players in the AFC. Spoiler alert: there are two “super bowl contenders” that Dante does not believe will be as good as many expect them to be. Xander Schauffle won his first major championship at Valhalla in the PGA Championship this weekend, but the story of the major was world #1 Scottie Scheffler’s arrest Friday morning on second degree assault charges. Naturally, Dante was focused on one thing: the twitter memes. The boys are joined by Josh’s good friend Audrey Gunther who breaks down Providence University sports, EDM culture, hotel chairs, the moon landing, and just about everything in between. On this week’s episode of The Wave Podcast, the boys kick off the show discussing Josh’s recent move to Raleigh, NC ahead of beginning his new position at Duke. He talks the move, why he feels familiar on Duke’s campus, and how dope of a “gym” Cameron Indoor really is. The boys jump into this week’s sports talk with the Orioles over the last few days. The Birds split their two game series in DC with the Nationals, took 2 against the Diamondbacks at home, and dropped the first of 3 at home vs the Blue Jays. Seemingly everyone is talking about the bullpen being the Orioles’ biggest issue, but Dante gives his feelings on why he believes it’s actually the O’s offense that should be blamed for their recent woes. Included in that mix, players such as Cedric Mullins and Colton Cowser have struggled, and when Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman are not driving production, the Orioles’ offense seems to be fighting uphill. The Orioles made some roster moves this week, recalling OF Kyle Stowers and optioning OF Heston Kjerstad, as well as activating OF Austin Hays and DFA OF Ryan McKenna. The boys give their thoughts on the moves and why this could be a long term 3-D chess move for Mike Elias. The Birds have a home stint against the Mariners this upcoming weekend before hitting the road, and Dante congratulates Paul Skenes on life after making his MLB debut for the Pirates last weekend. Heading over to the Ravens, the NFL is leaking their schedule ahead of the official release Wednesday night, and have announced that the Chiefs will hang their banner on opening night against the Ravens to kick off the season. Josh and Dante explain why this is actually a good thing for the Ravens and that it will be the perfect test for this team in a do-or-die season. College football is right around the corner and ESPN has announced their location for College Gameday in week 1. Baltimore’s favorite horse race, the Preakness, is back at Pimlico this weekend and the boys only have one thing to say: Bring back the Port-a-potty race. On this week’s episode of the show, the boys kick off by Josh breaking down his first festival experience. Josh took on Breakaway in Charlotte this past weekend, and he gives us his overall thoughts and feelings, as well as who some of the best performances were. Before jumping into this week’s sports talk, Josh also provides a HUGE life update as he is officially leaving Liberty University for a spot at (check’s clipboard) Duke University. A surprising move for a lifelong Maryland fan, but an incredible one nonetheless and we’re super happy for him. The sports talk this week starts off with the Orioles as they’re on a bit of a hot streak entering this week, coming off a Three of Four game series win vs the Yankees, and a sweep of the Reds. O’s pitchers are on FIRE lately, spearheaded by the returns of Kyle Bradish and John Means, who delivered an ace-level first outing. Moving across the B/C lot to M&T Bank stadium, the Ravens made news by signing four of their rookies this week, including first round pick Nate Wiggins. They were the first team in the league to lock up their top pick. Second round pick Roger Rosengarten fired Dante up this week with his quote about protecting Lamar Jackson, and the boys talk about how this offensive line could look with some potential starting pieces in the locker room already. Lastly in the NFL, much to Dante’s dismay, Odell Beckham has signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Dante is sad. The Kentucky Derby was this weekend and Mystik Dan won a great race. Anthony Edwards is proving to everyone that he is appointment television, as well as (potentially) Michael Jordan’s biological son. The O’s take 1 of 3 at home against the A’s in a rough offensive series, but are currently 2-0 through the first two games at home vs the Yankees. Jackson Holliday was optioned to AAA Norfolk on Friday, and spoiler alert, Dante is irate. On the brighter side, John Means and Kyle Bradish were announced to be rejoining the big league club this week, with both pitchers set to make their first starts this week. Josh and Dante discuss what getting these two arms back will mean for this pitching staff, and ultimately how it may help Mike Elias address the issue that is the bullpen. The boys wrap up the baseball talk this week by diving into the absolutely monstrous run that Gunnar Henderson is on to start the season. Dante’s preseason MVP pick is looking to pay dividends come this October. Transitioning over to the NFL, this past weekend was the NFL draft so the boys dive into the 2024 Ravens rookie class. Dante is over the moon about first round pick Nate Wiggins, and discusses his overall feelings on the class as a whole. Josh gives his thoughts on the draft by Eric DeCosta, and whether or not he believes the team improved enough ahead of this season. The Falcons made a big splash on Thursday night drafting Washington QB Michael Penix Jr, and Dante still cannot understand the move. Josh and Dante give their thoughts on the draft as a whole this year. Josh eulogizes the 2023-24 Washington Capitals after being swept by the NY Rangers in the first round. The boys are back this week and Dante gets to say the words he’s been waiting years to shout on this podcast: Reggie Bush has been given his Heisman back. The boys kick off the show on a high, discussing why they’re thankful for Reggie being reinstated as the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner by the NCAA. This spurred a conversation on Josh’s wellbeing as a Liverpool fan and why his happiness is perpetually being edged by his teams’ inability to close out successful seasons. To kick off the Baltimore sports talk, the boys dive into the last week of Orioles baseball, breaking down the 3 game sweep of the Twins at home, taking 2 of 3 in Kansas City against a hot young Royals squad, and another 2 out of 3 in Anaheim on the backs of some strong offensive outings from the young guns. Cedric Mullins has been a topic of conversation around the Orioles’ fan base for some time, but the start to the season has only proven that he should be an everyday fixture for the near future. Mullins is off to a hot start offensively, as well as continuing his defensive dominance in center field. Gunnar Henderson is also proving a lot of O’s fans right as his first month to the season has been nothing short of meteoric. Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg have been generating national media attention as both young studs are shedding light on themselves with their offensive abilities. Both Westburg and Cowser are among the league's best in hard hit percentage, and Cowser is cementing himself as a potential AL ROY dark horse. Lastly on the O’s, the boys give a temperature check on Jackson Holliday and, ultimately, why they are still not worried about the lack of production coming from the #1 overall prospect. Moving across I-395 to the Ravens, big news came out of the Castle this week as the Ravens announced they have extended receiver Rashod Bateman through 2026. Dante and Josh, as “Bateman Truthers” explain why this is a great move for the club on a number of fronts. Transitioning into the weekend ahead, the boys take a look at how the Bateman extension will alter the draft strategy for the Ravens, particularly if they will now move off WR completely in round one and shift their focus entirely on the offensive line. Dante gives his thoughts on some guys he likes across the mid rounds and why the Ravens should target a few in particular. Josh and Dante give their feelings on the JJ McCarthy discourse and why they believe he is NOT the fourth-best Quarterback in this draft class. The UConn Huskies take their second title in as many seasons, and the USC Gamecocks complete a perfect 38-0 season. Josh and Dante give their thoughts on what a second consecutive title means for Danny Hurley’s legacy in the pantheon of NCAA Basketball, and why Dawn Staley should be mentioned as well in the “GOAT” conversation. The Orioles dropped two of three in Pittsburgh largely due to torrential offensive woes, led by Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman. The boys talk about what the offense is lacking and how they can get back on track. They take games one and two in Boston thanks in part to some offensive help, and hopefully Colton Cowser has cemented himself as an everyday starter. Lastly, a live reaction to the breaking news of Jackson Holliday being called up to join the big league roster. Kyle Van Noy has re-signed with the Ravens on a two year deal, and just like the boys said a few weeks ago, this was one that EDC needed to get done. The boys discuss a “Mount Rushmore” on this week’s show, this time discussing who deserves to be on the MR of EDM artists.
