WELCOME BACK to another episode of the Wave Podcast. Josh and Dante are back and fired up this week, but not without a bittersweet feeling to this week’s show. The NFL playoffs are beginning this weekend, which is great for 14 teams and fan bases around the league, but also signifies that we are rapidly approaching the end of another NFL season and will soon be without football. Josh and Dante kick off this week’s show with a brief look into the coaching carousel. A number of coaches have already been fired, or “mutually parted ways” with their now former teams, including the biggest shock of the week to this point which was the Titans firing Mike Vrabel. The boys give their thoughts on some of the vacancies and who may be a good fit where. They also tease what will undoubtedly be a deeper discussion on the coaching cycle this offseason to come in future weeks that may, or may not, be headlined with Bill Belichick being out of a job in Foxborough. And above all else, our boys want Mike Macdonald and Todd Monken to be going absolutely nowhere, although the possibility of them moving on for promotions is growing as both coordinators have received interview requests. Moving on to the football that was played (somewhat) this past weekend, the Ravens dropped their season finale 17-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, finishing the season 13-4 and capturing their third AFC North crown in franchise history. Obviously the Ravens were without key starters in this one, such as Lamar Jackson and Roquan Smith, but the second teamers did have glimpses of promise as some young guns like Trenton Simpson and Del’Shawn Phillips got to showcase their abilities in what was an ugly and sloppy game in the rain. To conclude Saturday’s affair, the Ravens, for the most part, stayed healthy and are now looking ahead to the postseason. John Harbaugh stated that there were some knicks and bruises resulting from this week’s contest, but nothing that should be too serious moving forward. In other Ravens news, there were some nice little announcements from the front office this weekend as well. The Ravens announced Saturday that they’ve agreed to a 2-year extension with NT Michael Pierce, as well as signing Dalvin Cook to the practice squad on Thursday following his release from the Jets. The boys break down both of these moves and why they’re ultimately very solid moves for the Ravens. Josh and Dante also take one “final” look into this Ravens squad ahead of the postseason officially kicking off, including what is the biggest hole in the team, as well as how this particular group differs from the likes of the 2019 squad. Wrapping up the NFL talk, Dante and Josh go in on the Super Wild Card Weekend matchups, giving their thoughts on the upcoming games and who they could see advancing into the divisional stage. They boys wrap up the show discussing the CFP National Championship giving love where it is due to the Michigan Wolverines after taking down the Washington Huskies 34-13. Coach Jim Harbaugh finally gets the national championship title he’s longed for, and this Michigan team that has battled and fought through adversity all year ends up on top. Josh shares his thoughts on the Michigan program, coach Harbaugh finally lifting the trophy, as well as why the Washington Huskies should feel very optimistic about their future under coach Kalen Deboer. Lastly, all eyes are now on Jim Harbaugh to see if he will stay, or if he’ll make the jump to the NFL as many are predicting. Dante wraps up the show with his best bets for Super Wild Card Weekend, and the boys send you into a fantastic weekend. Cherish the few weekends of football we have left, as they’re becoming fewer and fewer. Cheers to you all, you’re the absolute greatest and we are so thankful for each and every one of you.
