In this recording, we had a minor glitch towards the end. We lost about a minute of the message and the closing prayer.

In this chapter, we come back to the life of Joseph. God is preparing Joseph to be the man that God has called him to be. His training includes betrayal by his brothers, his father thinking he is dead, being sold as a slave in a foreign country, being another man's property, being falsely accused of a sin he did not commit and now being thrown into prison.

By the standards of today, he is a failure. But by God's standard, he is right were God wants him to be.

For you and I, we need to remember that God is with us always. No matter where we are or what our circumstances are, God is with us. In fact, God has an incredible plan for our lives. How He prepares us may be vigorous and excruciating. But never forget, God loves us, and God is in control.

Paul continues to command us on how we should walk. First, he commands us to walk in love. Then he commands us to walk in light. So, the totality of our conduct, behavior and manner of life is to walk worthy, walk in holiness, walk in love and walk in light.

We don't walk in this manner to become saints. We walk in this manner because we are already saints. We are saints because of all that God has done for us in Christ Jesus.

We have every reason to live for Jesus. Furthermore, we are fully equipped by God in Christ to live for Christ. So then, how is our walk. Are we living for Jesus?

In this chapter we take a break from the life of Joseph in order to get some background on the life of Judah. All that we look at in this chapter takes place while Joseph in in Egypt.

This chapter presents Judah to us in complete honesty. What Judah does in this chapter is not right before God. Judah is a man who will be greatly used by God. But first we must see how God works in Judah before He works through him.

In this chapter we will see both the sovereignty of God as well as God's amazing grace. Watch how God prepares Judah to become the tribe from whom the Messiah will come.

Paul has just commanded all who are in Christ to live in holiness. We are to put off the old man, be renewed in the spirit of our mind and put on the new man. Now that Paul has declared this great truth, he follows up with application. The truth in God's word will always be followed by how we are to apply this truth.

Paul lays out for us the commands we are to follow in order to live as a new man in Christ. The only reason we will be able to obediently make application of all that Paul commands is because we are a new creation in Christ. We are now fully equipped to live in obedience to all that we are commanded to do.

Will we choose to obediently live for Jesus to the glory of God?

We continue in the life of Joseph. Here we see the beginning of his suffering. It is a suffering that will last 13 years. In this time, God will work in Joseph in order that He may work through Joseph. What we will see in this chapter and all that follows is how God prepares a man for great use. In order to be greatly used by God, we must be greatly broken by God.

In all of this, God is sovereign. We can be greatly comforted by the fact that God is in control, and He loves us. God will do everything that is necessary in our life in order that we will be all that God has called us to be.

May God work in us all in order that He would work through us.

God has done such great things for us in Christ. All that we have been saved from, all that we are and all that we will ever be is because of Jesus. God has displayed His grace towards us in His Son Jesus.

In response to all that God has done for us in Christ, we now have a great responsibility to live for Christ. Paul refers to this as our walk. In this study we are commanded to walk in newness of life.

May all of us live in the newness of life that we have in Christ. May we be all that God has called us to be to His glory alone.

We now begin to transition from Jacob to Joseph. There is much to learn through the life of Joseph. We will learn much about Jesus through the life of Joseph as he is in many ways a type of Christ. We will highlight as we come to them.

Also, in Joseph we will see the theme of suffering as a test of character. In Joseph we will see both a testing of his faith and the triumph of his faith. Faith can never triumph unless it has been tested.

Let us learn and be encouraged by the life of Joseph.

Jesus has given gifted men to His church in order that they would equip the church for the work of the ministry. This equipping has led us to an established unity built on the faith and knowledge of the Son of God. This will only happen in a well fed, well nourished, well protected church under the consistent Spirit filled, in depth teaching of God's word.

From this will come true Christian maturity. Truly mature believers do not act like children. They are well grounded in the word of God.  They will be able to both share and receive, in love, the truth of God's word. The mature will live in obedience to God's word.

The ultimate outcome being believers edifying one another in love. Mature believers will promote the growth of love in one another to the glory of God.

Jacob has finally led his family back to Bethel. While it is a time of rejoicing, he has experienced much sorrow as well. There have been three graves and the horrible sin of his eldest son. Yet he has faced all these tragedies as Israel, not as Jacob.

All who are in Christ will face sorrow and tragedy. Sorrow and tragedy are the tools God uses to sanctify us and to set us apart for His glory. The question is, will we face tragedy and sorrow as Jacob or as Israel.

Paul continues to build on the unity that we all have in Christ. He presents to us a diversity of gifted men who have been given to the church. These gifted men have been given according to the measure of Christ. Jesus gave these gifted men in order that His church would come to unity, maturity and Christ likeness.

As we look at this passage, it is important that we know that all who are in Christ are fully equipped to be all that God has called us to be. We are responsible to obediently use these tools for the edification of the church to the glory of God.

May we all resolve to obediently be all that God has called us to be.
