President Cyril Ramaphosa has called a special cabinet meeting today (Sunday) as the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus increases to 38. Health minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that the number of confirmed cases has jumped from 24. Mkhize says seven new cases have been confirmed in Gauteng, six in the Western Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal. Three of the newly confirmed cases are of people over 70. The virus can affect elderly people more severely. All of the confirmed new cases are of people who had travelled overseas. The abaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo has been released on warning by the Mthatha magistrate court in the Eastern Cape. This follows his arrest in the early hours on Friday for the alleged assault of his son, acting King Azenathi Zanelizwe Dalindyebo and his wife. He allegedly vandalised doors and windows as he forced everybody to leave the palace. Our reporter Nkululeko Nyembezi visited the palace and spoke to those who witnessed the incident...

United States President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency over the spread of Coronavirus in the United States. The declaration will free up some 50 billion dollars in disaster relief to assist states and local municipalities fight the pandemic which has infected over 1800 people in the country and claimed more than 40 lives. The President has invoked the Stafford Act which allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency known as FEMA to coordinate the national emergency response. The Health Department has confirmed that a second person has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in South Africa -- this time in the Gauteng. The patient is a 39-year old woman, who was in direct contact with the 38-year old man from KZN, who was recently confirmed as SA's first case of the virus. The two were part of a group that travelled to Italy and arrived back in the country on the first of March. The man is from KwaZulu Natal and has been hospitalised for treatment.
