March 15, 2020President calls for a special cabinet meetingPresident Cyril Ramaphosa has called a special cabinet meeting today (Sunday) as the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus increases to 38. Health minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that the number of confirmed cases has jumped from 24. Mkhize says seven new cases have been confirmed in Gauteng, six in the Western Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal. Three of the newly confirmed cases are of people over 70. The virus can affect elderly people more severely. All of the confirmed new cases are of people who had travelled overseas. March 08, 2020The Health Department confirms a second person has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in GautengThe Health Department has confirmed that a second person has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus in South Africa -- this time in the Gauteng. The patient is a 39-year old woman, who was in direct contact with the 38-year old man from KZN, who was recently confirmed as SA's first case of the virus. The two were part of a group that travelled to Italy and arrived back in the country on the first of March. The man is from KwaZulu Natal and has been hospitalised for treatment.
