However his main opponent, Raila Odinga has refused to concede defeat, alleging massive irregularities in the polls, including what he said was the hacking of the electronics tallying system. The ANC in Parliament says it is confident that the opposition sponsored vote of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma will be defeated. The party Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu, says it is inconceivable that a governing party could support an opposition sponsored motion of no confidence to oust its own president. The Speaker of the National Assembly Baleka Mbete has not yet made her decision on how the vote will be conducted in a motion scheduled for Tuesday next week. The Johannesburg Metro has confirmed that a high-level probe is under way into the cause of a stampede in which two people were killed two and 16 others injured at the FNB stadium in the city. Johannesburg Metro Member of the Mayoral Committee Michael Sun says fake tickets which were reportedly being sold at an entrance to the 90-thousand seater stadium caused a riot which led to the stampede. Tickets for the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were sold out two weeks ago and organisers had warned those without tickets not to go to the stadium. The match continued and Chiefs won one-nil. Prominent Orlando Pirates supporter Joyce Chauke says she's heart-broken after learning about the tragedy...

EFF leader Julius Malema has threatened to go back to the Constitutional Court, should the Speaker of the National Assembly - Baleka Mbete - refuse to allow a secret ballot during the vote of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma. Malema was speaking at the party's 4th anniversary celebrations in Durban. The EFF leader also reiterated his call for black people to grab and invade land despite being taken to court for similar utterances.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will be slapped with more than a million signed petitions from DA leader Mmusi Maimane about people who apparently want President Jacob Zuma to be removed from office. Maimane says the DA will this week hand-deliver the petition to Ramaphosa, who is also the leader fo Government Business between Parliament and the Executive.
