Snow Report

So actual falling snow across the Alps has settled down and there's generally been bright sunny conditions but good cold temperatures to maintain snow conditions especially on Piste. 

Arguably Austria has the best snow conditions right now thanks to having had the largest amount of snow over the last week across a bunch of the Austrian Alps (up to a metre in some places) which is an absolute treat

 The lower resorts of the Tirol and Salzburg will potentially have a few icy patches where ski resort traffic is heavy but nothing to put anybody off

Overall this week we will be looking at sunshine and blue skies and potentially some rising temperatures towards the end of the week

Snow conditions
France - mainly dry this week with possible snow in the Haute-Savoie resorts later in the week (that's pds, grand massif, Elaine la clusaz etc)

Austria - The southern Austrian alps remained fairly dry earlier on this week but cloud gathered further north and snow was seen down to 700 m levels which is fantastic and later this week that Snow can expect to build up to 60 cm as low at 700 m, so it's the northern part of Austria that's getting the share of the snow right now the southern part  will probably not see hardly any

Italy - a slightly drier week but still cold and sunny it's freezing levels at around 1500 m cloud will increase in the eastern Italian out the Dolomites later this week to by the time this podcast is out with some flurries of snow possible mid to later this week.  Those flurries could continue later this week and into the borders of Austria but this is just the eastern part of the Italian Dolomites and it's likely that the rest of the Italian ski resorts will remain cold clear skies with very little extra snow this week.
Switzerland - a similar story with plenty of sunshine although clouds will increase in the north and north-east later this week with some possible flurries of snow in resorts to the east of Zürich down to 600 m with flurries of snow turning heavier later in the week also mainly in the north-east e.g. Klosters possibly into Engelberg, Laax, possibly spreading Northwest to the likes of Gstaad, Wengen but resorts like Zermatt, St Moritz will see little, if any, snow. 

French lift strikes – should we be concerned?  Basically no

Snow news - In France, the Southern Alps resort of Serre Chevalier has done well with 35cm’s on the lower slopes and 170 on the upper.
The northern Alps resorts including the Portes do Soleil region aren’t faring as well, but Avoriaz has some excellent on piste conditions and they had some fresh snow this week too.

Switzerland is a similar picture new snow this week on the upper runs, conditions are good on-piste at higher altitudes. 

Italy has seen better conditions Cervinia has 130cms on its upper slopes, and the Dolomites are holding up well. 

Austria again is about altitude St Anton in good shape but the lower resorts are relying on artificial snow. 

North America Vail 130cms on the upper slopes and 50cms on the lower. Similar conditions over in Whistler  but with significant snowfall coming. 

News - €36m Plan To Redevelop North African Ski Area Unveiled in Oukaimeden

A School Bus with A Dry Slope as Jibworx have announced they’re working to covert an American school bus.

French ski resort Les Gets has become the first in Europe to ban smoking on its ski slopes.

Plans for £300m leisure resort with ski slope, water park and hotels in Wales to be submitted this month.

Resort level: Davos is one of the highest villages in Europe at 1560m L2A 1650 

Highest point:  2844 metres Davos and  3600 metres for L2A

KM’s of piste? 200 km’s of that in les 2alpes - Davos-Klosters is surprisingly large with over 250 kms of runs!
