The second film in our pairing of revisionist westerns moves us ahead 17 years to 1969 where legendary director Sam Peckinpah helmed to telling of a story about a gang of outlaws at the ends of their careers. Written by Walon Green, 1969's "The Wild Bunch" follows career outlaws Pike (William Holden) and Dutch (Ernest Borgnine) as they attempt to rob a bank dressed as World War I army soldiers. After the heist doesn't quite go as planned, the gang finds themselves in Mexico, making a deal with General Mapache (Emilio Fernandez) who is fighting against the legendary Pancho Villa. All the while, they're being pursued by a ragtag group of bounty hunters hired by a corrupt railroad agent (Albert Dekker) and led by former Pike-gang-member Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). While the heist they're hired by Mapache to pull off goes reasonably well, the situation after becomes something that Pike simply can't stomach, leading to a major confrontation the likes of which no one had put on film before! Also starring Edmond O'Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez, Ben Johnson, Strother Martin, and L. Q. Jones. Plus, the guys reveal which two 80s films, requested by Patreon family member Tim J, will make up the next pairing!
