This week Joy and Laura discuss season 1 episode 20 “Dead Man’s Blood”, and it’s a vampire episode! The vampires have an antique gun that John wants because it may be the key to defeating THE demon, so the Winchester’s set out to gain possession of it.

We loved the first vampire episode of Supernatural. We discuss the details within Elkins’ journal, the vampire teeth SFX, the tension between Sam and John, and what makes a hot vampire.

Joy’s Easter eggs include a survival story of a 17 year old girl who fell from an aeroplane, a real vampire from Colorado, and a series of attacks on cattle in Nebraska who locals think were victims of a vampire! And who do you think would win in a fight between the Winchester brothers and the Salvatore brothers?

This week Joy and Laura are discussing season 1 episode 19 “Provenance”. A haunted painting is killing its owners and Sam and Dean are on the case.

We discuss how out of place the boys are in this very fancy art scene (well let’s face it Dean is more out of place) and how stuck up and morally corrupt the auction house owner is. Joy loves how Dean is being a “weird cupid”,  Laura loves how badass Sarah is, and we both love Sam’s hero dive!

This week Joy and Laura discuss season 1 episode 18 “Something Wicked”. Sam and Dean investigate a town where all the children are becoming sick. Is it pneumonia, or is the doctor a soul sucking witch?

Joy’s Easter egg this week is about the real Black River Falls, and all the spooky things that have happened there, including an epidemic where lots of children were victims, and therefore really parallels this episode. We discuss the similarities between Dean and Michael in this episode, how lonely Dean must have been his whole adult life, and Sam and Dean’s stolen childhood innocence. We also consider how JDM was de-aged for the flashback scenes, was it digital, or did he just shave?

We discuss tulpas and how the show has kind of created its own in Richardson, TX because of this episode. Sam and Dean are investigating in Chicago where demonic shadow creatures are killing people. Meg is back and she’s evil!! We also see John Winchester again, albeit very briefly.

We discuss the SFX used for the shadow demons, how Meg might be linked to the Salem Witch Trials, and Laura is so annoyed with Dean in this episode for not using his upstairs brain!

We also talk about Sam and Dean’s reactions to seeing their dad again, we gush once more over Jeffery Dean Morgan’s acting skills and hotness, and we make more die hard references in this episode than we were expecting.

We talk about the evolution from “Dean girl” to “Sam girl” and why that might be the case. Hint, it’s therapy! Dean’s duck face makes another appearance, as does Aunt Zelda from Sabrina The Teenage Witch!

We discuss whether the real villain in this episode is Max or his step mother, the parallels between Max and Sam, and how Dean reacts to this. Joy is not loving Dean at all this episode because he’s being an asshole (#TeamSam), although she did like those priest costumes!

This week’s episode is apparently really popular within the fandom, but we weren’t feeling it. We thought it was really depressing, but we did record on a Monday so that may have had something to do with it. 

We discuss the stupidity of the opening scene and have differing opinions about Dean’s reaction to his prognosis from the doctor. Laura zones out when the conversation focuses on the religious aspects of this episode…twice!

In this episode Sam and Dean split up and we are not happy about it. Sam tries to follow their Dad to California, and Dean investigates the cases of couples who have gone missing as they drive through a small town.

We talk about how much we are loving this series so far, Joy tells us about the origins of scarecrows, and the Vanir gods from Norse mythology, and Laura totally didn’t get that Meg was a freaking demon!
