In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 14 of Supernatural “Sex and Violence”. Sam and Dean investigate a series of murders where seemingly happily married men suddenly slaughter their wives. They discover a siren is luring men and compelling them to kill their loved ones.

We discuss how the topic of domestic violence is handled in this episode, the LIES Sam is telling Dean, and the origin of “FBI” Nick’s name and how it might hint at his true identity.

We also discuss the red herrings in the episode, and it took Laura far too long to work out who the siren really was.

Joy’s Easter egg is about sirens and the lore surrounding them.

Stay safe out there, have each other’s backs, and always keep fighting!

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 13 of Supernatural “After School Special”. Sam and Dean investigate what they think is a case of demon possession at their old high school, but it turns out to be a haunting.

We discuss our feelings about the motives of “Dirk the Jerk” in this episode, and we don’t agree with the writing that tries to make Sam out to be his bully. Laura also gives her thoughts about Dean’s gym teacher shorts, and why they annoy her.

We also discuss the casting of young Sam and young Dean, how the actress who played Taylor felt about being drowned in a toilet, and how this episode is actually pretty depressing!

Joy’s Easter eggs are about the most haunted schools in America.

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 12 of Supernatural “Criss Angel is a Douche Bag”. Sam and Dean investigate a series of bizarre deaths linked to magicians who have gathered in a small town for a magic convention.

We discuss the episode title, how we both love magic, the sneaky sneaky murder rope, and some of the dark themes that feature in this episode.

We also discuss how Laura’s views about Ruby may be changing, how Dean should have been in show business, and compare what the tarot cards in this episode actually mean versus how they are used in the spells.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about real magicians who died for their art, and lesser known female magicians including Adelaide Herrmann, Dorothy Dietrich and Kristen Johnson (AKA Lady Houdini).

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 11 of Supernatural “Family Remains”. Sam and Dean investigate a supposedly haunted farmhouse, but it turns out that feral children, who were raised in secret and hidden within the house’s walls, are to blame.

We discuss the predictability of this episode, the references to “The Shining”, and call a flag on the use of night vision near the end.

We also discuss the horror and gore in this episode and how it could have actually been a slasher movie, and Joy says “shaft” too many times.

Joy’s Easter egg is about “The Licked Hand” urban legend.

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 10 of Supernatural “Heaven and Hell”. Dean, Sam, and Ruby try to protect Anna, a woman who can hear angels’ voices, from the angels who want to kill her, and a powerful demon, Alistair, who wants to t*rture her for information. This results in a showdown between the two sides.

We discuss how the dynamic between Dean and Ruby has changed as he’s very protective and trusting of her in this episode; the relationship between Dean and Anna; why Uriel is such a creepy creeper; and we ponder if the Destiel vibes started this early in the series.

We also discuss the comparison between Anna’s grace being pure creation where it fell to Earth, and the contrast between this and the destruction caused by Dean being pulled out of Hell.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about real documented and investigated miracles, including people being cured of illnesses after praying to certain Saints.

In this episode Joy and Laura break down season 4 episode 9 of Supernatural, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. Sam and Dean have to protect Anna Milton, an escaped psychiatric patient who claims she can hear angels and also seems to have psychic powers.

We discuss our thoughts so far on the arc of this season and the seals Lillith has to break, if the angels are good guys or bad guys, we still can’t tell; and our initial thoughts about Anna and Alistair.

We also discuss the start of Jared and Gen’s romance and Laura has found some tea from the set at this time; Joy explains how the writers are trying to make Gen’s Ruby more palatable for the fans; and then we recap what we have learnt from this episode and what we think will happen in part two.

Joy’s Easter eggs are about real people throughout history who have heard the voices of angels, just like Anna does in this episode.

Don’t forget to send us your local lore for our Halloween episode. Listen right to the end for full details, and our email address is below.
