Avanti UbhayakarMother | Entrepreneur | Aspiring Comic | Storyteller
As someone who’s made the switch from Corporate to being on their own, Avanti strongly recommends one to have a financial runway of atleast 6 months to ensure that they do not run into any personal troubles.

“As women, I believe that we need to take the pressure off. The house should be sparkling clean, the family should be eating full course meals and we should be excelling at work. It is not possible. I have let some of that pressure off.”

“No matter how progressive we want ourselves to seem, but women are still “supposed” to be doing certain things.”

“There is one way in which society wants you to live and there is one way that is yours. What you want to do.”

“As most comics would say, comedy is a brutal art. Your feedback is instant.”

Like most things in her life, she has discovered her passion for storytelling late.

Based in Mumbai, her 10+ years of straight-jacketed marketing career was just about going fine. Her skills included Communication & Creative Development, Channel Experience, and Events for brands such as Tata Docomo, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund and Aviva Life Insurance. This was also the time she discovered a need for quality content and coupled it with her passion for writing. Being a mother, she also started writing about her experiences

A freak talent hunt in office led to her tryst with comedy. She soon found herself moonlighting it with her day job. Comedy gave her the strength to shed all inhibitions on stage and try new thoughts with a new audience each time. Sometimes or let’s say most times her jokes would fail miserably. But when they did not, it was a high to see the audience explode in laughter. From being pushed to deadlines and leave approvals by maid alike and being duped by both with alarming co-incidence, Avanti sees life for a working mom as a net practice with multiple bowlers.

Scoring high in the face of all these blessed and banal situations gives her the push to brave the next day. And find the humour - dark, light and grey - in them.

In Diwali last year, she co-founded WordBerries along with her batchmate. Currently, the firm has presence in Gurgaon and Mumbai. They work with over 20 clients in the BFSI, Real Estate, Hospitality, Technology and the Education Sector and aspire to create an army of writers igniting the same passions in others.
