    The US special prosecutor investigating possible collusion between Russia and Donald Trump's presidential campaign will look into a meeting between top Trump officials and a Russian lawyer last year. The meeting was brokered by an acquaintance of Donald Trump Junior, as emails released to the investigation revealed today, who told the President's son he would be given official documents that would incriminate the Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton, and that it was part of the Russian government's support for the Trump campaign.

  • Fraud masterclass: ATO staffer reprimanded after leaking phone hacking-how to online
    A junior tax office staffer has been reprimanded, after posting instructions on how to hack mobile phones on the social networking site LinkedIn. The ATO was unaware the sensitive information had been shared, until the ABC pointed it out. The material was then taken offline within an hour. As well as potentially teaching criminals about how to steal information, the breach has also exposed the fact that the ATO is using software owned by a controversial Israeli company.

    The Federal Government's proposal for fuel efficiency standards has been criticised by the car industry, and the Opposition says the Government is lagging the world in introducing standards. The Environment and Energy minister denies the Government is effectively trying to introduce a carbon tax on cars and says it will listen to the views of industry.

    The Shenhua mine Watermark Coal project has been controversial from the beginning. Now, the NSW Government is clawing back half of an exploration licence sold to the Chinese miner, instead securing it for agricultural production. The Government says the previous Labor State Government should never have approved the licence in the first place, because the land in question is so important for farming and primary production. But the real question remains; is the mine still viable? Answering that could take some time.

    The decline of newspapers has been extensively discussed in Australia, but TV networks in capital cities and regional centres are also struggling in the age of digital disruption. In Darwin, Channel Nine has announced it is closing its TV news studio and laying off a third of its staff, a decision which will leave the NT capital without a locally-anchored and produced commercial nightly TV news service. Analysts say the pressures Channel Nine's been facing in Darwin are the same as those that have been squeezing regional stations across the country.

The state's Previous Premier, Colin Barnett, imposed sanctions on the use of a cage in mixed martial arts fighting in 2013, describing it as a 'violent aggressive sport,' and health officials agree, but that's all changed. And with cage fighting now given the green light, the sport's most profitable franchise wants in.
