On the Strade Bianche style stage of the Giro it was Wout van Aert who managed to mastermind a victory with Isaac del Toro finishing second and sealing the Maglia Rosa while the other gc rivals had problems on the gravel with Pidcock and Roglic having a small crash that had a big influence.

On a uphill finish it was Juan Ayuso who made the decisive move to take the win but Primoz Roglic takes the Maglia Rosa from Mads Pedersen.

The first time trial around the capital of Albania saw a close showdown between Primoz Roglic and Josh Tarling with a thin margin. Mads Pedersen was unable to defend the Maglia Rosa but remains within striking distance.
