Stage 19 was dramatically shortened to just 93 kilometres due to restrictions linked to a local outbreak of cow disease, but the decisive summit finish on La Plagne remained in place — and it delivered plenty of action. In a surprising twist, Primož Roglič launched himself into an aggressive breakaway early on, showing uncharacteristic animation. However, the move didn’t last: he was eventually reeled in and ended up losing significant time in the general classification battle.Tadej Pogačar tested the waters with a brief acceleration, but Jonas Vingegaard was glued to his wheel, refusing to let the Slovenian gain any ground. The pair not only dropped their rivals but shattered the Mont Ventoux ascent record in the process, cementing their dominance in this Tour and adding another chapter to their growing rivalry.

Stage 16 will be remembered not only for a French victory on home soil, but also for the seismic battle behind—the kind of day the Tour de France is built on.

On a day the breakaway made it home it was Uno-X that made history with Jonas Abrahamsen winning a sprint with Mauro Schmid after they held off a chasing group with Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel from behind. Tadej Pogacar crashed but the peloton waited for him to rejoin.
