  • TOTLB 318 Sweet Tooth

Have you watched, what at the time of it’s release, was the number one show on Netflix? If you haven’t watched this yet, it is definitely time for you to go to Netflix, and check out Sweet Tooth! Stemming from the mind of Jeff Lemire, which originated in comic book form, this series promised to be full of darkness and vigor!

“A boy who is half human and half deer survives in a post-apocalyptic world with other hybrids.”

There are many differences between the TV series, and comic book, including the biggest, which is the tone of the series. The series on Netflix is much lighter, though it has its moments, than the comic book which was a pretty dark book. Plus, Jepp is completely different for the TV show, which was a great reimagination!! Go give this series a watch!

  • TOTLB S101 Glenn Head

We are BACK at the interview round table! Today we are speaking with someone who has been drawing comics, and going into other projects, for over sixty years! That is a lot of time spent, putting your ideas on paper, and he has perfected his art! We are speaking with artist extraordinaire, Glenn Head!

“Glenn Head was born in 1958 in Morristown, New Jersey, and began drawing comics when he was fourteen. His work has appeared in many places—from The Wall Street Journal to Screw. Others include The New York Times, Playboy, New Republic, Sports Illustrated, Advertising Age, Interview and Entertainment Weekly.”

With a ton or projects under his belt, he came to the table, in order to speak about Chartwell Manor! Chartwell Manor is a graphic memoir, telling the readers about his years of sexual and emotional abuse, at the boarding school that he attended in his youth, and the almost fifty year journey that he has taken to try and process everything, in order to tell the story to the masses. This is definitely one of those interviews that goes a little deeper than normal, but in a great and informative way, and you definitely shouldn’t miss it!

  • TOTLB S100 Humberly Gonzalez

Though Jupiter’s Legacy had it’s slower moments, and maybe could have been shortened by a couple of episodes, it also had it’s moments where it was spectacular. It had it’s moments, where the visuals were beautiful, and the story was all there between the characters. Unfortunately, we won’t be getting a follow up to the first season, as Netflix has already decided that Jupiter’s Legacy has been cancelled!

One of the character gems from the movie, is joining us today for a special interview episode. Today, you’ll be listening to the uber talented, Humberly Gonzalez! Humberly portrays Gabriella/Neutrino in the series! We were able to speak with Humberly about her time in this series, and some of the other TV projects, as well as some of her time in video games. Video games seem to be a real positive point for Humberly, and she describes how much fun it is to be in the motion cap outfit, learning different ways to express emotion with her whole body, as opposed to the facial expressions that we get from actors on the screen! Don’t miss this interview, she is FULL of positive energy!

  • TOTLB 316 Army of the Dead

If you’re like most of us, you haven’t gotten the zombie fatigue yet! Maybe you’re tired of The Walking Dead, and it’s spinoff’s, but you’re always hungry for another good zombie story? Well, we’re here to talk about the latest entry into the genre, and you can decide whether or not you think it’s a worthy entrant into the zombie ring!!

Of course, we’re talking about the newest film by Zack Snyder, coming out of Netflix, Army of the Dead. Now, there is a bit of a different main spin, coming out of this movie, with the zombies having much more intelligence then they have in some other zombie adaptations. While some other movies have zombies barely opening doors and such, this film takes it a little bit further, and even brings a zombie baby (snyder for the 2nd time). We think that Dave Bautista is probably coming into his own as an actor, and some of the side characters are absolutely hilarious! Give the movie a watch, come back, and let us know if you agree with our rating!

  • TOTLB 315 The Count of Monte Cristo

It’s time to step back to the very early 2000’s, for our next pop culture classic!! Chosen by Jason, we’re going back to a time, in France, where there was a lot of ruffles!! We are of course, speaking about the 2002 movie, The Count of Monte Cristo!

The Count of Monte Cristo was originally a novel, written in 1844, by Alexandre Dumas. From that time, it has been remade into movies, at least twenty times, with a rumored adaptation coming from David S. Goyer. Then there’s all the TV adaptations, which again, have been made about twenty different times as well.

The 2002 version of the story stars Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, and Richard Harris, is produced by Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber, and Jonathan Glickman and directed by Kevin Reynolds. The plot of the movie, is loosely based on the plot of the novel, with the main storyline, and the prospect of revenge in tact, but playing fast and loose with almost everything else, including the ending. If you’ve never seen this movie, or if you’re into the historical side of film, you should give this film at least one watch!!

  • TOTLB 314 Love Death and Robots

If you’re a fan of weird anthology series, that are absolutely stunning to the eye, as you watch, then this episodes topic is definitely for you! The first season of Love, Death + Robots debuted on Netflix with an eighteen episode first season on March 15th, 2019! It was popular enough, that a second season was greenlit, which is the season that we focused on for today’s episode! The second season debuted on May 14th, 2021 with eight episodes!

The series is a re-imagining of David Fincher, and Tim Miller’s animated science fiction film, Heavy Metal! As is with almost all anthology series, none of these episodes have anything to do with each other, and are stand alone. They also are all under twenty minutes, and deal with a variety of different topics and themes. Some take you to space, some take you to the kitchen, some have robots, so there will probably be an episode or two, or all of the episodes, that make you think, and that you will enjoy!

  • TOTLB S99 Red Williams

It’s interview time, and boy do we have a massive interview, both literally and figuratively! We had the chance to speak with Jax himself, from Mortal Kombat Annihilation! This is the second Jax in the universe, with the first Jax only showing up for a matter of seconds in the original Mortal Kombat, and a reboot of Jax in the most recent Mortal Kombat having a ton of the spotlight put on him.

Red Williams is a mountain of a man, with a giant heart! He was such a nice guy, who has a very deep knowledge of his faith system, and this seems to be his main project at the moment, working in Point Blank Ministries! Not only were we able to speak to him about this, and about his time in Mortal Kombat, but we also were able to speak with him a small amount about his NFL career. Because ESPN will shortly be featuring Red in a 30 for 30 documentary, we were not able to speak with him very in depth about his time on American Gladiators, he was able to tell us a little bit about his time on the show! This is a fun interview, that brings a little bit more enjoyment to Mortal Kombat Annihilation, but a lot more enjoyment to the beautiful life of Red Williams!

  • TOTLB 312 The Empty Man

Lately, we’ve been doing a good amount of topics, that have their roots in comic books! This episode is no different. The Empty Man started as a comic book in 2014, by Cullen Bunn & Vanesa Del Rey! The comic book was then converted into a movie in late 2020!

“On the trail of a missing girl, an ex-cop comes across a secretive group attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity.”

This is a strange horror movie, about a group of young teens, who carry out a ritual in order to summon a God, that they call, The Empty Man! The further and further that you get down the rabbit hole, the more you realize that these kids aren’t just trying to summon The Empty Man, they’re trying to ensure that they have a home for him when he returns! The main character has gone through a lot of trauma, and is helping his friend/lover, find his daughter, who happens to be a part of this young group of kids!! How this ends, is quite the turn of events!
