Thinking Outside The Long Box

We are back to speak about one of the latest Disney series that has just concluded it’s run. We are of course talking about WandaVision. When we originally spoke about the show, it only had three episodes that had been released. This was the wrap up episode for us, in which we speak about the whole first season. Before you take a listen to this episode, you should definitely give our first episode a LISTEN!

WandaVision of course tells the story of the Scarlet Witch, and Vision, post Avengers: Endgame! What happened to Wanda after Vision was killed by Thanos? How in the heck is The Vision back, seemingly from the dead, and also trapped somehow in the past? Do the pair have kids, and a dog all of a sudden? There are MANY questions that need answers, and this doesn’t even touch on the fact that we didn’t really know who the main villain of the series was, until late in the game!

We don’t generally do a -ton- of “family friendly” series, especially on the Disney side of things. BUT, Tim suggested this next topic, as it was something that looked fun, and new, coming from Disney. So, we are of course talking about Raya and the Last Dragon!!

Raya and the Last Dragon tells the story of a fractured community of people. This community used to be very involved with each other, until a mystic set of creatures, was trying to take over the whole world! In this land, dragons exist, and are a major part of the world! The dragons end up saving the world from extinction, only to have the tight knit community fractured, and setup their own cities, away from one another. Well, those frenemies are confronted by these mystic creatures once more, and have to come together in order to save the world once more!

It’s a fun, family friendly movie, and you should definitely give it a watch, if you haven’t already!

Are you a fan of the courtroom drama? Shows like Law & Order? Do you hear that familiar DUN DUN in your dreams? If you do, then our latest pop culture classic episode, is definitely for you. This is actually, probably, the movie that may have started it all, as far as the courtroom dramas go. We are of course talking about the film, 12 Angry Men.

12 Angry Men tells the story of twelve jurors, who are overseeing a murder case, involving a young African American kid, who is accused of murdering his father. At the beginning, there is only one juror who is taking the case seriously at all, while the rest of the jurors just want to convict the kid, and get on with their lives. The one juror makes it his mission, to give this kid the most fair trial that he can. This leads us to a two hour discussion about a ton of different subject. Those subject include immigration, classism, and of course, racism. For it’s time, it does a great job of talking about a lot of serious topics. It definitely doesn’t shy away from too many things!! I think the feeling from the group, was that this was a great movie, full of some amazing acting, and worth the time for you all to make sure you give it a watch!

I KNOW, that you all think that Alan Tudyk is an acting stud! If you don’t think that, then we don’t believe that we can be your friend…….Alright, I guess if you’re not a Tudyk fan, we’ll forgive you! BUT, our next topic is pretty much ALL about the Tudyk!! Lately Alan has been strecthing his acting chops, in the voice acting realm, but this is a little bit of a departure from that. We are, of course talking about the hilarious series on the Syfy channel, Resident Alien!

On his way to destroy the earth, Captain Hah Re (Alan Tudyk) accidentally crashes his ship, on the planet! He ends up crashing near a home, out in the middle of nowhere, killing the owner, and taking over his body. NOW, he has assumed the identity of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, who has been asked to take over, as the town doctor! Not only that, but there is one kid in the town, that somehow, has the ability to see Hah Re, in his true form as an alien. The child’s attempts to kill Hah Re, end in pure hilarity, with Hah Re ALSO trying to kill this innocent child. This is definitely worth the watch everyone, if you haven’t seen it already!

To finish off our two weeks of our anime content, we are here to bring you the latest anime topic!! We’re talking about a Netflix series, titled, The Great Pretender!

Gabe’s son Ashton was telling Gabe over and over again, that this was something that we needed to ensure that we spoke about it. The Great Pretender is all about a group of scam artists, that range from everywhere around the world. They’re scam artists in the same vein as Robinhood, as they claim to only scam people who are rich, and deserve it. It’s a teacher vs student kind of tale, about a seasoned scammer teaching someone who thinks they know it all, but continues to be bested by the teacher. Let us know what you thought about this, and give the show a listen!

It’s pop culture classic time everyone!! For this pop culture classic, we are going back pretty far, but not only in time, but also in concept. As far as the time goes, Akira came out in Japan, in 1988, and in the United States, in 1989. As far as the concept goes, it was one of the very first times, that the United States was exposed to this kind of anime. It was one of the first time’s, that something so imaginative, and beautiful, was exposed to a brand new audience. A lot of anime fans, will point to this film, as being one of the main reasons that they fell in love with the genre itself.

Now, as a first time watcher, I’m not quite sure how I feel about the storyline itself, but I’m also not sure that this was an important part of what was happening when this movie came out. Akira is the story of a dystopian 2019, when the world is in shambles. Many things are happening, and one of them happens to be, the finding of some kind of celestial being. It’s a big concept, that is supported by beautiful animation.

Oh man, what do we say about our next topic. We came into this movie, hoping for a cool story, with magic, and music! I guess I’m not sure what it is that we actually got, but that is for you all to decide on as well. For this episode, we are talking about the Ghibli movie, Earwig and the Witch!

Earwig and the Witch tells the story of a young orphan. She was left at an orphanage, by a witch, who may or may not also be her mother. One day, out of pure luck, she is chosen by a family, who happen to use magic as well. There really isn’t much else to say here. The story ends, a little abruptly, before we can really even get into the crux of the plotline. Maybe, they’ll put out a sequel, or a 1.5, in order to really tell the rest of the story? Have you guys seen this movie yet? What did you think?
