What happens if you're been married multiple times and you all go to heaven?  Do you stay married to the most recent one?  Do you become a polygamist?  Imagine having to spend eternity arguing about who's the favorite spouse.  Perhaps that's why they discouraged multiple marriages for so long: preventative measures for when you finally meet the afterlife.  It's a legitimate concern.  Unlike, say, who gets to play with a balloon animal.
