  • Ep. 49: Standing Up for What You Need: A Conversation with Sheena about her Partner's Anxiety

Today I have a conversation with my friend, Sheena, about the moment she stood up and asked for what she needed of her partner to deal with his anxiety. Our conversation is so relatable, even if you do not have a partner dealing with anxiety, because we all have had moments where we've put other's needs before our own. In the moment that Sheena shares, it's a pivotal moment for both her and her relationship and one, I believe, we can all learn from (that and Sheena is overall just a badass!).

I hope you enjoy the conversation!

    xoxo, Jessi

  • Ep. 47: MyTruthTuesday: When You've Realized You're Looking Outwards Not In For Validation

“Let your energy be used to build, not destroy.” - A teabag wisdom

Today I share the first #MyTruthTuesday in quite some time. If I'm being truly honest, I've been dealing (or in my case, not dealing) with some emotional shit that I wanted to shove down deep. I've been wanting to build up really tall walls, but I know (now) when I do that, it's not good for anyone, least of all myself. And in reflecting on why I've been wanting to build walls, I've realized that recently I've been looking outwards for validation instead of inwards. So I decided to share some tips I've been using to deal with outside validation/comments/feedback judgement.

    I ask myself...

    1. Who is giving the feedback? Is it someone I know/Love/Trust?
    2. Is this feedback/comment solicited? Did I ask for it or is it being dished on me unsolicited?
    3. What is this feedback/comment/judement triggering in me? Continue to ask myself WHY?
    4. Is there anything I can/want to takeaway from the feedback?
    5. I hope you enjoy the conversation!

    6. Ep. 46: Shattering the Stigma of Alcoholism: A Conversation with Nancy McKay

Today I have a conversation with Nancy McKay who shares her very personal story around her journey with alcohol. In our society, there is such a stigma around alcoholism, yet there is so much focus (and pressure!) to drink, especially in quarantine times. Nancy vulnerably shares her journey, her rock bottom & her perspectives on why there is such a stigma around alcoholism in today's society. I also share a pretty vulnerable moment around my own relationship with alcohol.

      About Nancy:

Nancy J. McKay is the Founder of Amazing Outlook Coaching, LLC.

Nancy believes that you can't be courageous without first being vulnerable.

Nancy has been sober since March 2009 and is an ovarian cancer survivor. Through the pain of these challenging and

life changing events, she became acutely aware that life is short, and there was no time to lose to follow her dreams.

She completely changed course at the age of 60 to create a life filled with purpose and passion and became a Certified

Mind-Body-Eating Coach in 2018, a Certified Wayfinder Life Coach in 2019 and a Certified Equus Coach in 2020.

Nancy uses her unique experience, training, and her passion to help women explore and eliminate what is holding

them back, so they can change their lives and create their own Amazing Outlook. She works intently with her clients to

challenge old beliefs and patterns and replace them with practices that empower them to achieve their desires.

Nancy is warm and compassionate as well as a bit salty and sassy, and her clients are always inspired by her.

In addition to her coaching practice, Nancy is an author and a dynamic speaker. She lives in Colorado with her husband

Jimmy and their two rescued Westies, Maggie and Tommy.

    7. Ep. 45: A Partner's Perspective on Maternal Mental Health: A Conversation with Mike

Today I have a conversation with my friend Mike about a partners perspective on Maternal Mental Health. Generally, maternal mental health is often a topic that so many people, women included avoid talking about, but it's such an important topic of conversation. Just as important is the partners perspective, so I am grateful for my conversation with Mike. In our conversation, Mike shares resources that he and his partner found useful during their journey.

    8. Ep. 44: Leaning Into Uncomfortable Conversations Around Race & Social Justice: A conversation with Sara & Misasha

Today I had the honor of having a conversation with Sara & Misasha, the co-founders of the social justice podcast, Dear White Women. In our conversation, Sara & Misasha get raw & authentic about their own experiences with racial injustice and why leaning into this conversation isn't always easy but is so important.

Dear White Women is an award-winning weekly podcast dedicated to easing you into real and uncomfortable conversations about racial and social justice. The show is co-hosted by two half-Japanese, half-White mothers with very mixed race children, who believe that when we learn about our nation’s history and look more deeply at our personal experiences with race and identity, we gain the power to effect personal and systemic change.

    11. Ep 41: Vulnerability Births Solidarity: A Conversation with Jamina Bone about Maternal Mental Health (and so much more!)

“We believe the perception of perfection leads to isolation but VULNERABILITY births SOLIDARITY. “ —Jamina Bone

In a mash up of both a #MyTruthTuesday and a conversation with Jamina Bone, I share my epiphany around how when I'm in a downward spiral, the story I tell myself is that I can do this all on my own, I don't need help, and just how dangerous that can be (for me). I share a vulnerable moment around my feelings around asking for help. Which is then juxtaposed against my conversation with Jamina Bone, illustrator, community curator, and all around badass woman around the importance of community (which I wholeheartedly believe in!). Jamina shares with an openness & vulnerability around her story and why she's such a strong believer that your struggles as a mom don’t need to define you.  You can be an imPERFECT parent and still be a good mom.

Jamina is an amazing human and you can find out more about her and her community at www.mommingwithtruth.com (check out the different ways to support or join her community!) or on Instagram @MommingWithTruth.
