Today I have a conversation with Terry Tucker who shared his journey with a rare form of rare form of melanoma that presented on the bottom of his foot. This led to almost five years on the drug, Interferon, along with the amputation of his foot and leg. Throughout this journey, he learned to embrace the uncomfortable times that we all experience in our lives and using them to make us stronger. We talk a lot about what holds us back from being the best person we're capable of becoming, in addition to what it's like to just exist & go through the motions vs. actually living.
A bit more about Terry in his own words: I has been an NCAA Division I college basketball player, a Citadel cadet, an undercover narcotics investigator, a SWAT Team Hostage Negotiator, a high school basketball coach, a business owner, and most recently, a cancer warrior. Our family has lived all over the United States and currently resides in Colorado. In 2019, after recovering from a foot amputation. I started the website, Motivational Check, to help others find and lead their uncommon and extraordinary lives and to help people find and live their purpose.
To continue to follow Terry on his journey, reach him at https://www.motivationalcheck.com/ or on FB at https://www.facebook.com/motivationalcheck/?modal=admin_todo_tour.
I hope you enjoy our conversation!

Today I have a conversation with Lorna Rose about ALL. The. Things. All the things that so many people don't use their voice to share, and I'm so grateful for people like Lorna who do use their voice. We talk about how she didn't feel bonded with her son after birth, parenting special needs children as well as breaking the cycle of abuse for her children.
A bit more about Lorna: Lorna is a poet and writer of narrative nonfiction. Her work has appeared in several literary journals and has been recognized by PNWA and the Oregon Poets Association. Recently she completed a memoir about her time on a trail crew in Alaska. Today I have a conversation with Susan De Lorenzo about that feeling that we've all had at some point or another -- feeling like a fraud. Living your life with your mask up, your armor up, so damn high. And how sometimes, when those walls you've built up around yourself crumble (intentionally or not) how it allows us to overcome those beliefs, overcome our adversities and move forward into the life that we're meant to live.
More about Susan: Life Coach Susan De Lorenzo focuses on helping women who are emerging from life-altering adversities and guides them to evaluate the insights and wisdom that such times hold. She believes our dark times hold amazing "gems" that we can use as a new platform to build a soul-led life upon that honors the journey and the great woman who was there all along. As a survivor of invasive breast cancer whose marriage dissolved as treatment ended, Susan draws upon her personal journey as well as her training as a life coach to give people the perspective and tools to rebuild their lives in alignment with their deepest desires. Susan is also the author of the upcoming book, Pulling the Gems from Adversity, which will be published by Balboa Press early next year.

Janine shares her story with such rawness & underscores the vulnerability it takes to share ones story, but the healing process that can occur once you do.

Today I had a conversation with my friend, Courtney Kubovcik, and just WOW. Courtney is raw, real & honest about her journey that has taken many twists & turns. From living in a fundamentalist group for 10 years to eventually leaving & readjusting to life outside that group, to enduring physical abuse from an ex-boyfriend, to eventually turning to sex work as a professional dancer. Throughout this journey Courtney has learned we are all beautiful and imperfect beings that hide our imperfections and therefore hide important parts of ourselves. Trauma affects all persons whether or not they are consciously aware of it, and that these traumas are at the core of many of our triggers and pain points. Courtney shares her healing journey home to herself so that people that see a bit of themselves in her story know that there is always hope for tomorrow. Her story is one of empowerment and hope. In sharing she is helping others see that they, too, are worthy of health and abundance.
More about Courtney:
Courtney is a licensed social worker, transformational healing coach, activist, writer, wife, and mother. Courtney’s education includes a degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from California University of Pennsylvania. As a practitioner, Courtney uses embodiment techniques and integrative approaches on her mission to help men and women re-connect with their bodies and align with their souls. Courtney has a passion for social justice and has been serving vulnerable populations throughout southwest PA for nearly a decade. Without exception, Courtney believes that ALL people are worthy of health and abundance, and that we ALL have the potential for healing within ourselves.

In today's conversation I talk with September Burton who shares her story of survival of both domestic abuse but also family court system abuse. We speak about her journey, how she's had to make a decision that no mother should ever have to make and ultimately how using our voice can empower others to stand together, and most importantly, to heal.
A bit more about September:
Champion for Women Survivors of Domestic Violence Fertility expert and abuse survivor, September Burton is a Champion for Women Survivors of Domestic Violence. After years of emotional, verbal, physical abuse and abuse of power - a common thread in the women she meets’ abuse stories – she has finally managed to break free. September started her career as a U.S. Navy personal chef to 4-star Admirals, stationed in Sicily, Italy. She has since shared her expertise and passion for nutrition as a recurring guest on KCMJ 93.9 radio show, ‘Happy News Now’ and developed a 6-week ‘Eating for Fertility’ nutrition plan for prospective parents. She is the Founder and CEO of “4-months-to-Fertile”, working with couples and mothers struggling with primary or secondary infertility and is the organizer of the first ever Colorado Fertility Conference. September is passionate about living a life of purpose, sharing her knowledge on the healing power of food, and freeing women from the debilitating shame and guilt that often accompanies domestic violence. "There is a magic that happens when women heal together. For every woman who speaks she empowers thousands of other women. Stand with me. Speak with me. Heal with me."

Today I share a really raw moment that I wrote about my marriage. During this pandemic, I've had so many moments - good, bad & ugly. And I've had so many people reach out and ask how they can share their stories. So I wanted to share both this moment and also the framework I use to write out and process my moments. I also announce my *FREE* Write Your Moments of Truth Mini-Series which is a 5 day series that begins on Monday, October 15th. Each day that week, you’ll receive a daily lesson/prompt each day via email, along with a community of like-minded individuals to share your experiences with. Today I share a conversation I had with Michelle Dickinson about ALL.THE.THINGS. It was such a good conversation and Michelle shares some personal stories around mental health and why it's her mission to break the stigma attached to mental health. In relistening to our conversation though, I couldn't help but think that the common thread in our conversation was that people want to be seen & heard - and that's not always easy to do in our current culture. So take a moment, pause, think about those moments when you just wanted to take off the mask but couldn't. Then go listen to my conversation with Michelle - I bet you'll have an ah-ha just like I did.
To connect with Michelle find her at her website at https://www.michelleedickinson.com/.
I hope you enjoy the conversation!
