God has got no grandchildren - What does that mean?

It means that every single one of us, old and young, male and female alike need to find Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. You don’t get to Heaven because your grandfather was a great preacher, your grandmother was a great intercessor or your father and mother are pastors in a church.

I want to ask you this Sunday morning - are you feeling lonely? Do you feel that maybe nobody cares about you? Are you crying out this morning to the Lord... Where are you, Lord? Maybe you are like Peter and the disciples who were in the boat on the Lake of Galilee when the storm arose.

What a promise from the Lord! The key here today, I believe is not to panic, but rather wait upon the Lord. That is what Moses told the children of Israel to do. They had the Red Sea in front of them and behind them, the most powerful army in the world coming down upon them. What were they to do? Moses said: "Do not panic. Stand still because the Lord will fight for you."

As Christians, we are under obligation to speak up. Our lives are not just about salvation but also righteousness. Some of us say that we have given our lives to Jesus but there is no power in our lives. Maybe it is because we are too fearful, or even ashamed to be identified with Jesus...

We need godly counsel.

King Rehoboam was Solomon’s son and he took counsel from the young men that he had grown up with. Inexperienced men, men who had never done much and he disregarded the counsel of the elders who were with his father, Solomon. As a result, King Rehoboam lost his kingdom.

Oh my dear friend, if ever we needed faith, we need it now in the times we are living. Our trust must be in God and God alone. “What is faith?” you might say. Well, Hebrews 11:1 says: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

You know I have been reading the life story of King Solomon - the wisest man who ever lived, also the richest man who ever existed and yet he finished so poorly. He started well but he finished poorly.

When everybody else gives up on you and me, Jesus never gives does. The Lord looks at the heart of a person and not the outward appearance. Jesus offers salvation to sinners and that often threatens the pharisees’ way of life.

In the Zulu language, we call it 'isibindi' - which means stainless steel backbone. Persistence - that is what God is requiring from you and me in our lives today.

One genuine miracle is worth a thousand sermons - That is what we say at Shalom. You know Jesus is still the same today. Jesus was known more for His incredible miracles than what He preached...
