Three Critical Months for Patients with Decompensated Alcohol Related Cirrhosis

Listen Later

Deaths from alcohol-related liver disease tragically continue to increase in the United Kingdom. Liver transplant remains a curative option but only to a select cohort, requiring a minimum period of 3 months of abstinence. The group of those who have the highest morbidity and mortality are those admitted due to decompensation and alcohol-related hepatitis, and therefore the first three months post-discharge is critical. In this podcast, together with an expert panel, we explore the East Anglian perspective, addressing variations in access to alcohol care teams, approaches to maintain abstinence, post-discharge follow up and which patients to refer for transplantation.
