When Neighbor Jerry randomly chose this topic, I knew we'd be having fun. As by-products of the 1960s, the two of us have special recollections of the events that were constantly unfolding on our native soil and in a small jungle 8,000 miles away. We saw turmoil...we saw resistance. We saw signs of hatred...we saw attempts at peace. And all around us, what we saw with our eyes was being washed clean by what we heard with our ears. The music of the 60s dramatically influenced the way we looked at the world around us. We listened and we learned...and we moved, ever so slowly into adulthood. The music of that decade is etched into our collective soul.
Join us as we step back into that wild period of history and celebrate some of the music that stays with us yet today. There is definitely SOMETHING HAPPENING HERE!

Pilamayaye is a Native American term used to express thanks. In this episode, BillyBobb and his Neighbor Jerry look to the culture of the Indigenous Americans in an effort to "give thanks" for their contributions to what is the tapestry of American music...specifically to rock and roll music. Theirs is a deep and rich history of pain and injustice that is carried forward in their original music. To this day, that influence is heard in much of the music we choose to enjoy. So for Thanksgiving...we at Three Drinks In wish to give thanks to that spectacular culture for what they have brought to our own world.

This month, Jerry and I take on the formidable task of selecting three songs that MUST be on any road trip playlist that we might make. As you can imagine, our individual playlists for any road trip would be pretty long, so boiling it down to our three must-haves was as an exercise in futility. We had tons of songs…but for this show, while we will discuss dozens, we will only highlight three each. You will need to check out our Spotify playlist for this episode to hear what will undoubtedly be a work in progress. So, sit back and enjoy this month’s episode…Hittin’ The Road.

It is like looking for your own shadow. It's been there all along, but we have become so accustomed to it that it is now a part of how we live, but rarely acknowledge. We're talking about the influences that are the village that helped us become who we now are. In this particular case, we are talking about our musical influences. Why do like the music we like? How did it come across our radar in the first place? Who made a musical choice in their own life and chose to share it with us?
In today's episode, Neighbor Jerry and I search out these folks and the sounds they brought to us which we still hold dearly today. Join us as we search our backgrounds and try to give thanks to those folks who put us, "Under the Influence."

Welcome to July in the USA. Happy Independence Day...hopefully without space aliens, this time. BillyBobb and his Neighbor Jerry are drinking beers and discussing the songs that bring all of what is good about our country into sharp perspective. They've talked, on past episodes, about the dark side of life for some Americans, but this episode is all about that unique freedom of living in the United States. They focus on the enormity of the landscape that provides so much natural beauty for all of us. They delve into personal interpretations of what makes up that special feeling of gratitude for living here. Together they explore the songs that bring to their minds the greatest aspects of the lives they lead in America. Join them as they roadtrip across the radio waves of time and bring us all into a pretty cool place to be... The United States of America...in song.

Music and meals should always coexist. Whether it's in the preparation stage or the actual sitting down stage, there is always a place for good music to cohabitate a good meal. The selection of the music will likely be guided by the menu itself. That's where the fun begins. This month, Neighbor Jerry and BillyBobb travel to Norse country up in Story City, Iowa and invade The Upper Story Studio. This quaint little apartment sized studio is one of the coolest places to enjoy live music when the world is not at war with a crippling disease. Robyn Anderson, the genius behind The Upper Story Studio joins the gents as they ask her to join them in creating a great meal and bring to it those strains of joyful noise that will make a good evening into a great evening.
We look again to the marriage of food, drink, discussion and music to make our world a better place. Thanks for dropping by.

With every new election comes a new opportunity for politicians to gain momentum not only through their policy choices but also through the choices they make for the music that is played to the crowds during their appearances. Neighbor Jerry and BillyBobb take on the political powers to bring forth the type of songs that just might get them elected. Here is our episode for Presidential Walk-Up Songs.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on many occasions used a modern revision of the words of abolitionist minister, Theodore Parker, when he told us, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
In today's episode, we join our guest host, Brian Fox of Fox Brewery in West Des Moines as we seek to understand just what we mean by social justice and what the role of music is in that search. More specifically, what role did music play in our own lives to help us develop at least some sense of morality in regard to social justice.
Heavy topic, but a great discussion...after the first three beers had disappeared. Please consider visiting Fox Brewery (103 South 11th St. / West Des Moines, IA) and chat it up with Brian and his patrons. We're sure you'll enjoy the visit.
As always...thanks for listening.
