Even on your best day in the shower, you weren't as good as the folks we'll be talking about today. Sure you were a soloist in your high school or church choir. Sure you may have dazzled some folks in the audience of your 6th grade talent show. Sure you may have given yourself a hernia trying to hit the high end of Sweet Caroline at another Cyclone win. Just the same, think about it... did you do it in perfect harmony with those others around you? Well? I didn't think so. Join us today as the dynamic duo take aim at the great vocal harmonies of rock and roll. It's going to be a sweet ride. Give us a listen!

To "Jones" for something is to have an unusual need for it. Cheech and Chong once described in song a Basketball Jones. Many movies from the 60's and 70's explored the seamy side of society with flics about characters needing a fix or a Jones to keep themselves going.
In today's episode, we talk about the desire to pick up and visit or move away from where you are to a place that sounds a whole lot better. We are tuning into songs that address our TRAVELIN' JONES. So sit back, close your eyes, and cruise down the road with us while we share our favorite places as described in the lyrics of some of favorite songs.

Have you ever stopped to think about all the cool things that come out of Texas? Yeah... me neither. That being said, however, this month finds one of our favorite episodes as Neighbor Jerry and I took to the open highway and ended up in the Lone Star State with just enough beer and whiskey to manage a decent bribe. We took advantage of my cowboy friend, Tater Chip, and put together a highly interesting episode that focused on songs about Texas. We each went through a bevy of our favorite tunes about the state, and eventually we created our personal Mt. Rushmore list of great songs about Texas. There is no way to make a truly comprehensive list of songs about this state, but we think you'll get a kick out of it. Sit back and pop a top on a cold one, because this is a bit of a ride. Join us as we Waltz Across Texas on Three Drinks In.

My wife and kids think I'm a classic. I am not entirely certain that the guffaws at this compliment really sell the title. But, it's true, I guess. I've been around for awhile. Is that all it takes to make something a classic? I think there is more to it. Let's look at music. Just because it is 200 years old, doesn't automatically make a song into a classic. There have to be some other intangibles that raise it above it's contemporaries. So... what do you think will be considered a ROCK CLASSIC in 200 years? Jerry and I have some ideas. Why not grab a beverage and join us as we take a look at this topic at Three Drinks In.

As we travel through life, we oftentimes bump into some situations that could have been handled in a better manner. From these situations, we hopefully learn a lesson and are able to avoid those types of unfortunate mistakes if we find ourselves staring at them again, down the road a piece. We call these Life Lessons and that's what today's episode is all about. Good songs that offer us a little bit of a lesson on life in general. Hope you enjoy what we've put together.

All of these incredible Rock Operas have a few things in common. First of all, there's some pretty serious genius going into the whole thing. Secondly, they give us the bigger picture of a story that comes from a unique song. Finally, they are just damned enjoyable.
This month, the boys at Three Drinks In explore other possible songs that could or should be made into some fashion of a deeper production, perhaps even a Rock Opera.

When you think you have a favorite song, you can convince yourself that it might always be your favorite song. But what if someone comes along and takes that great song and turns in a cover that somehow transcends the original? Believe it or not, it happens all the time. Here are some of the songs we felt were as good as the original...or just a little better. Our final choices are songs we felt have made that jump away from the original version and artist into a new realm where a new artist, a new arrangement makes it their own. Here is Episode 039 of Three Drinks In.

Here at Three Drinks In, we try to keep close track of all the folks that help us out. Especially the folks down here at The Iowa Tap Room. We are very much into name recognition, whether it’s the name of our servers or the name of our favorite Iowa brew. It’s important to keep them all straight and to differentiate between one another. So with that in mind, the crystal ball which kicks out our monthly topics (actually more of a pint glass than a crystal ball) has favored us with a topic that flows into that general theme. Each tune we discuss today must feature someone's name. We'll try to boil it down to our favorites. Enjoy!
