Four men from Tasmania are joining up to fight about movies. They're doing their part. Are you? Listen to Throw in the Pal and save yourself from malaise and boredom. Subscribing guarantees big brain and belly laughs. We take you live now to the podcast studio, where the Pals' discussion of Starship Troopers (1997) has begun! Could this be one of the rare instances of every Pal loving this thrilling sci-fi satire, which mocks militaristic fascism and blind patriotism? Or will there be a bloodbath, the likes of which haven't been seen since the invasion of Klendathu? It's a-Pal-t time you found out, so we ask you this: would you like to know more?
[To the tune of Gaelic pipes and strings]
If you like podcast streams
We’ve got you, we hear you
That is why we put this show on
For, in this here instance,
We’ve made a decision
To discuss Titanic for so long
Shower or car, wherever you are
We just need you to listen
Please listen as we go on
[Song ends abruptly as Billy Zane screams something iconic]
Please, we ask you ever so Pal-litely, to tune into this week’s episode on James Cameron’s oft-heralded and just as oft-derided 1997 film Titanic.
Palmerican Physcpal! This film might be Tom's memoir, so let's do a 1000 situps and get down to the office so we can discuss Mary Harron's 2000 adaption of the Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho! But first, we gotta return some video tapes. Enjoy psychos!
What do the Pals, a drowning man and John Lennon circa 1965 all have in common? It's that they're all yelling out for help, of course! But this week, the Pals are outshining Lennon and that dumb non-swimmer by using some definite articles, the best kind of grammatical articles there are!!! It's not just any kind of help that we need, but specifically The Help, Tate Taylor's 2011 dramedy about the mistreatment of Black women in servitude to the overbearing, racist white families of the American South during the 1960s. Heavy stuff, but nothing that can't be solved by a well-timed pie gag (zing!). Now personally, if you'd asked us what our favourite flavour of pie is, there'd be no end to the list: Pal-pple, rhu-Pal-b, ma-Pal syrup with brown Pal-nut butter topping. But to each his own, we sup-poo-se.
Sean Connery? More like More Conner, please! As in, could you keep doing more Sean Connery accents, please?! What am I doing, explaining the cleverest pun of all time to you, when you clearly get it. It's like if I had to take the time to say that The Hunt for Red October (1990) -- John McTiernan's classic Cold War thriller -- is the first time these podcasters find themselves deep in the Pal-cific ocean, doggy Pal-ddling, all without a peron-Pal floatation device, because this movie has water in it and we're all pretty shallow dudes at the best of times. Please ignore any potential trending topics to do with submersibles that may or may not make the accidental timing of this episode problematic, and dive in for some accent-leaden fun, comrades!
This week, you CAN sit with us! Your perennial Pals are poised in pink, and we Mean it, Girl(s), because we've gone and fecthed up Mark Waters' 2004 cult classic, for all you Pal-astic packers. So if you love Danny DeVito's work, have no idea how to spell orange and flow heavy with the wide set crowd, then push your sexy hair back and settle in for some word (and maybe actual) vomit. How many times should you listen? THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST!
Hey you! Yes, you, with the face… No, not you, I meant the other face-haver. You can just go on, Get Out of here! Phew, now that they’re gone, it’s just Us, you and me and the Pals, and I’m super Jor- that this god-dan podcast right here will a-Peele to you. What’s that? Did you say Nope? Well that’s bang on my new face friend: this episode is about Nope, the 2022 Jordan Peele sci-fi horror that deals with trauma, horses and unknown forces. The course is unsure but the detour’s gorgeous, so grab a Pal-ddle (that’s a saddle for us here Pals) and giddy on up, pahdner!
Grab your peanuts, popcorn and put on your Pal-iest grin because this week, the Pals are sliding into your eardrums with a nostalgic slam dunk; I get sports! We're diving headfirst into Penny Marshall's 1992 classic "A League of Their Own", where women shatter the glass ceiling and slide into the historic diamond of dreams. Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Hanks bring the heat in this laugh-filled, home run-hittin' extravaganza. So lace up those cleats, fasten your Pal-met and step up to the plate with the Pals as we round the bases of friendship, rivalry and a love for the game. Remember, there's no crying in podcasting, but we try not to let that stop us!
Say, have you ever heard the one about the podcast with the four unstable friends? They just couldn’t keep their Pal-ance! That’s right, this week the Pals are on a raucous ride to rictus city, grinning ear to ear and cheek to cheek, cos Todd Philips’ 2019 Joker is cracking us up. No one will be wanting to know how we got these scars, because they’ll realise that they’re actually smile lines (and also, that quote’s from a different movie).

Welcome to Throw in the Pal, a podcast where three mildly talented, majorly struggling actors attempt the impossible in looking for fresh material to mine for online discourse. And wouldn’t you…
