  • Otanime Ep. 03 - "Macross the Stars"
On this month’s episode of Otanime, we discuss our Anime of the Month which is Super Dimension Fortress Macross. This show is one of the pillars of mecha anime and also the show that popularized anime in America with (the infamous) Robotech. We discuss all of the major characters, plots, subplots, and battle sequences of the series. In addition, we also talk about the movie Do You Remember Love?, and about Robotech and Harmony Gold sitting on the Macross licence.
Before we get into the Macross discussion we give our thoughts on the end of Parasyte: The Maxim. This was our anime of the month in the last episode so we wanted to talk about how the series wrapped up and how it all came together
As always, we talk about the anime we've been watching and the anime we are anticipating. We also detail the anime of the month for April. This time, we will be discussing Hunter x Hunter. We're adding a bit of a twist as we will be skipping ahead to a further point in the show. The Chimera Ants arc will be our main focus so if you want to follow along with us, make sure to watch that arc.
During June and December we will be discussing an anime of the month that YOU request. Starting this month, we want you guys to list anime that you want us to feature in the comments below. At the end of May, we'll pick a winner and watch that. The same rules that we on the show abide by apply: It has to be a movie, a series of 26-ish episodes, or a complete arc. Again, write down the anime you want us to discuss in June and we'll pick one.
This episode features: Tony Polanco (host), Michael Crawford, Emilio Lopez, Chris Sealy, and LeRay Williams.

  • Throwdown Ep. 28 - "Thank You for Dying"
Bloodborne, the most brutality challenging game of the year, has been released upon the masses. Since it's the biggest AAA exclusive of the first quarter and most of us on Throwdown are playing it, we've decided to dedicate a good chunk of this episode to talking about the game.
The Bloodborne discussion leads us to our second main topic which is about challenging games. What is the appeal of games which makes us want to break controllers? What is it about them that keeps people coming back for more? We'll answer these questions in addition to listing some of our favorite rage-inducing games.
We also have some Gaming News to discuss. First up is the latest PlayStation 4 update which adds the ability to resume games from any point, custom button configuration, and more. We've gone hands on with the update and give our impressions of it. Secondly, Konami has released an official statement regarding Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions. It's filled with a lot of PR-speak so we try to translate what the company is really telling folks. Lastly, we talk about how David Jaffe is mad at IGN for mocking the God of War series and what he has to say about the current state of gaming journalism.
As always we round things out with Pop Culture news. We give our thoughts on the first official image of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. We also talk about how The X-Files is coming back this fall in the form of a six-episode mini-series.
This episode features: Tony Polanco (host), Emilio Lopez, Brian Munjoma, Rachael Murdock, Brett Murdock, Chris Sealy, Anthony Nash, and Kristin Carella.

  • Throwdown Ep. 27 - "Metal Gear No More!"
Rumors began circulating today that legendary Metal Gear producer Hideo Kojima will be leaving Konami at the end of the year. This has since been confirmed by an anonymous source who spoke to Gamespot. Though it isn't official yet, all the signs point to this being a fact.
Since we're all huge fans of the series, this obviously meant that it would be our main topic for this week's show. What does Kojima's departure from Konami mean for the Metal Gear franchise and the company which published it? What will the heads of Kojima Productions do after their contact with Konami is up? We try to answer these questions and many more.
The other big news that happened in gaming was Nintendo's announcement that it has partnered with DeNa to produce mobile versions of Nintendo games. This is something that industry analysts have suggested Nintendo do and it seems they have finally listened. On top of that, the company plans to unveil their plans for a new home console next year. This is odd considering that the Wii U hasn't been out for that long. What does all this mean for Nintendo's future?
Last on the docket is the recent controversy over a variant cover of the upcoming Batgirl #41. Over the weekend, a Twitter campaign titled #CHANGETHECOVER was born from the outrage over the cover which depicted Batgirl being held by the Joker as he smeared red lipstick across her face. Was the cover pulled because it didn't fit the lighter tone of the book or because DC Comics caved in to the demands of a few loud protesters?

This episode is special not only because of the topics on hand, but because we have several special guests who we've wanted to have on for months.
First up we have our friends Kahlief Adams and Cicero Holmes who are the hosts of the Spawn on Me podcast. This podcast not only covers the biggest news stories in gaming, but also shines a spotlight on minorities in the gaming industry. Emilio and Tony have been on their show before so we're all honored to finally have them on Throwdown. Brookago is in the house!
We also have our friend Matthew Dixon who you may know as one of the hosts of the Baby and The Beard Comic Book podcast. We've wanted Matthew on the show for a while as well so this is a special occasion indeed.
And of course, let's not forget our good friend Kristin Carella who really wanted to be on tonight to talk about Nintendo and the Batgirl controversy.
This episode features: Tony Polanco (host), Emilio Lopez, Brian Munjoma, Brett Murdock, Chris Sealy, Kristin Carella, Matthew Dixon, Cicero Holmes, and Kahlief Adams.

Here are all the questions we answer this week:

*Why are Xbox fans so fixated on the holidays but not the rest of the year?

*Do you think Valve will capitalize on the absence of Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift this year?
*What are your thoughts on the recent Bloodborne announcements?

  • Throwdown Ep. 26 - "Hypersexualized"
At the beginning of the week, Polygon Reviews Editor Arthur Gies and Frogdice CEO Michael Hartman got into a debate on Twitter about "hypersexualized" characters in video games. This inspired our main topic which is about a developer's right of artistic expression. When is it justified to tell a developer how they should create their games? Should a developer sacrifice their artistic vision so as to not offend anyone?
No Tech or Pop Culture news this week so we could have enough space for some of the big gaming news which happened.
First up, we discuss the delay of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Though it's always good when a developer delays a game in order to iron out any kinks, in this case it might hurt Sony. With no Uncharted 4, the PlayStation 4 doesn't have any big exclusive titles for that all-important holiday season. Could Microsoft finally make some headway in the console war with Halo 5, Forza 6, and Rise of the Tomb Raider? What does Sony plan to do about this?
Next up is the official announcement that Titanfall 2 will be a multiplatform game. This news isn't surprising given how the PlayStation 4 has nearly double the amount of consoles the Xbox One does. EA isn't going to let all of that potential money go by keeping this series exclusive to one system either. With that said however, this is significant news as Microsoft has now lost one of its biggest exclusive titles.
Finally, we talk about the latest NPD numbers which were just released. In an interesting twist, Nintendo came out as the big winner in February. Two of its titles book-ended the top ten games (Majora's Mask and Monster Hunter 4 respectively) and its 3DS managed to be the best selling console out there. More interesting is that, despite being $50 cheaper, the Xbox One was still beaten by the $400 PlayStation 4. We leave no stone unturned in this discussion.
This show features: Tony Polanco (host), Emilio Lopez, Brian Munjoma, Brett Murdock, and Chris Sealy.

Here are all the questions we answer this week:

*What upcoming 2015 games will you buy on day one with no questions asked?
*Could we see a sub $300 Xbox One this holiday sale?
