When the words don’t match the actions you will instinctually not trust someone, the growth and the grace is in trusting that feeling. You will know you can’t trust someone before you know you won’t. It’s when you know you won’t that you will start to loosen your grip.
I think we can all agree that the measure of a person should not be defined by their worst moments. My question then is this… When have we seen our current president unify or connect the American people? When have we seen our current president display character traits that we as individuals and a collective actually admire?
We all have toxic traits and we can, have, or will be habitually toxic to someone or something at some point in our lives. The people taking stock of who they are, have been, and want to be are the real hero’s.
2020 has been tragic, jarring, unjust, scary… It’s also been a gift for those of us lucky enough to have kept our jobs. It’s been a gift for those of us who haven’t gotten sick. It’s been a gift for those of us who remain untouched by systemic racism.
If you recognize yourself in any of the privilege I just listed may we rise up together so that all might know the gifts of trust, consistency, and equality. Voting is an act of service. Voting is also an opportunity to lend your voice to the chorus of what you believe in. And I truly believe the greatest gift is the gift of service, and my mama always told me if you can’t give with a happy heart, don’t give. Set aside the fear and the anger and instead give your vote with just love in your heart. Because it’s time that love wins. It was time 4 years ago. It was time 400 years ago. And it’s time now.
It’s time to loosen our grip on the old way and usher in the new.
Mask up and head to those polls America. Black lives matter. Indigenous lives maltter. Let history and love remind you where your heart is.
Just love. And just love immediately.
