Today we’re letting Senior Co-Captain of UConn Women’s Rowing take the floor and speak up about what’s happening with her team and University. For budgetary reasons, the University of Connecticut’s Division I Rowing program has been cut, and the female athletes and coach were not given ample notice, and still no responses as to what is going on. Other teams at the University have stated that they are all willing to take budget cuts to their own sports, as long as it means entire teams won’t be cut completely. Nearly 8,000 people have also signed a petition to keep the rowing program alive. Since the decision to cut the team was made in June of 2020, and their last season has now taken place in 2021, UConn Women’s Rowing has still not been reinstated, and the University has not responded to them. Title XI lawyers will now file a lawsuit that holds extensive evidence that the school is not abiding by the Title XI law by cutting this specific team. Take a listen and decide for yourself.
Throughout this experience so far, Chloe has gained a new perspective on what it means to be a woman, a leader, and how much power we can truly have.
