  • #136 - Are Preparing Your Team?

    Send a text

Successful teams aren’t multiples better than other teams, but they are just a little bit better in a LOT of areas. It’s your role as a leader to create that environment where members are prepared and trained for what may happen outside the office. So if you are leading a team, ask yourself if you’re doing anything to develop them. And if you are, is it enough to help them get results?

  • #133 - The 5 Dumbest Things I’ve Heard Leaders Say

    Send a text

Now here’s another topic that I’m very excited to share not because these comments are cool or okay to say, but because of the wisdom we can get out of them. Here are the five things that I’ve heard leaders say that made me really scratch my head. I’m not saying that these leaders or anyone who might’ve said something demotivating, demoralizing, or just outright dumb are bad leaders. They probably said these out of exasperation or in the heat of the moment without realizing the effect of what they were saying. I’m sharing this today (and probably more in the future) to keep us all aware of how our words can greatly impact our members. So always choose your words wisely.

    Show notes:
[1:37] “We could do $10M in your region, without you there.”
[4:29] “The more advertising (lead generation) we do, the less you (team members) work.”
[8:35] “If you don’t do XYZ, I’m not going to be able to pay my mortgage.”
    [11:00] “Don’t listen to [Name]!”
[13:57] “That’s the dumbest question I’ve ever heard.”

As your organization becomes bigger, it’s easier to make decisions that will ultimately make a negative impact on large groups of people. • #130 - Dangers of Silos

If you are working in an organization that values a culture of sharing information and collective learning — cherish it and use it to your advantage. Get as much as you can from this culture and share as much as you can as well.

As a leader, there are things that you do that create silos unintentionally. This episode is a challenge for you to take a look at your organization and see where there are silos. Ask yourself what might have caused these and figure out ways to pull back the curtain.

  • #129 - Ditch the Email

    Send a text

One of the things that we’re missing in this “virtual” world is the absence of physical touch or presence. For those of us who are “people” persons, this is very challenging. As a leader, it’s your job to bring people together, and sometimes communicating solely on emails or text isn’t going to help you achieve that goal. Here’s me sharing what we can do as leaders to alleviate this problem in a time when physical touch is difficult to do.

  • #128 - There’s No Right Way To Do A Wrong Thing

    Send a text

One of my favorite topics that might cover more than just one episode, so make sure you are subscribed to this podcast so you’ll be notified when new episodes are up.

So for today’s episode, I wanted to talk about integrity in the business, organization or your team. As a leader, you will face situations where your people may do something that’s against the code of ethics or not aligned with your company values. Simply put, something that’s out of integrity. As a leader, it is your responsibility and obligation to send the right message to your team with your actions. Don’t handle it behind closed doors because you are going to regret it one day, trust me.

  • #127 - Where Is Your Feedback Coming From?

    Send a text

As a leader, I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of getting pushback from your team members when changes are being rolled out. In today’s episode, I want to ask you who are you getting feedback, thoughts, and opinions from? Whose voices are you listening to for advice and guidance?

Here’s a pro tip: bring in your top people and pass the ball around. Make sure to include them in the conversation. When you roll out the changes, these people will feel better about it knowing that they were part of the planning process. You don’t need everyone to agree with the decisions that you make because that will almost always be the case, but make sure to take the time to explain so you'll get their support --- which is very important.

    Show notes:
[1:14] What I want to share in today’s episode
[2:50] Compensation plan changes receiving major pushback
[5:05] Where is the feedback coming from? What your top people may feel about it
