  • Indian's Beef
    Originally Aired: January 6, 1939
The Lone Ranger #928, "Indian's Beef," tensions mount between white settlers and Native Americans when Red Eagle's tribe prepares for war. The Lone Ranger arrives in the struggling town of Red Bank, where storekeeper Lempike and Indian agent Big Duffy blame the tribe for the railroad's decision to halt construction. The townspeople stand to lose everything they've invested, convinced the threat of Indian attacks has scared away progress. When the masked rider learns of the brewing conflict, he prevents Tonto from riding into the hostile town and instead heads directly to Red Eagle's village.
Confronting the chief amid war dances and preparations for battle, the Lone Ranger discovers the truth behind the uprising. Red Eagle reveals that the government has repeatedly broken its treaty by providing only half the promised beef rations meant to replace the vanishing buffalo herds. The masked man convinces the chief to hold off the warpath until the next cattle delivery, promising to investigate the shortage. With lives hanging in the balance and Red Eagle warning he cannot restrain his warriors much longer, the Lone Ranger must uncover who is responsible for the missing beef before open warfare erupts between the two peoples.

The Lone Ranger #927, "Lafe Custer's Cattle," the masked rider and Tonto investigate a sinister plot involving two feuding brothers. When the Ridgeville stage is mysteriously stopped twice by a masked man and an Indian who search for something but take nothing, suspicions run high. Rancher Lafe Custer eagerly awaits word from his brother Nate about the best market for his cattle drive. When a letter finally arrives directing him to drive his herd to Abilene for top prices, Lafe sets out immediately with his foreman Whitey and crew. However, Colonel from the nearby fort plants seeds of doubt, reminding Lafe that Nate once loved Martha—the woman Lafe married—and holds the mortgage on Lafe's ranch.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto's stage robberies were actually attempts to intercept fraudulent correspondence, and their suspicions prove correct when Tonto discovers damning evidence in the bunkhouse. A hidden letter reveals that Whitey has been secretly working for Nate, following orders that threaten to ruin Lafe's entire cattle operation and cost him everything he owns. The masked rider must act quickly to save Lafe from his brother's treacherous scheme.

When Tonto encounters Marshal Miller searching for the outlaw, the faithful Indian directs him toward his quarry. However, Jet anticipates the lawman's approach and ambushes him in a desolate area near Plainfield. Instead of killing the marshal, Jet hatches an ingenious plan: he forces Miller to exchange clothes with him, takes his badge and official papers, and decides to pose as the marshal himself while making Miller appear to be the wanted outlaw.
The situation becomes even more audacious when Jet discovers that wealthy Kansas rancher Randolph has posted a thousand-dollar reward for his capture. Jet realizes he can collect his own reward by bringing Miller into town as the supposed criminal. The Lone Ranger, learning of the marshal's manhunt from Tonto, adopts a disguise and enters Plainfield just as Jet arrives with his prisoner, ready to perpetrate this brazen fraud on the unsuspecting sheriff.

When Sheriff Newt Birch and locals Duff Seely and Bill Meadows discuss the stolen horses, harness maker Duff points the finger at Yakima, a peaceful Indian who recently purchased an expensive saddle with cash. Duff's assistant Buck claims to have spotted one of the stolen horses, recognizable by its white blaze, tethered behind the cafe wearing Yakima's new saddle. When the men rush to investigate, a masked rider suddenly appears and rides off with the horse, escaping into the night despite the sheriff's shots.
The sheriff jails the protesting Yakima, but the real conspiracy soon becomes clear. In a private conversation, Duff Seely reveals himself as the mastermind behind the thefts, having manipulated young Buck into framing the innocent Indian. The sheriff searches for proof, but the killings continue without witnesses or evidence.
The Lone Ranger suspects more sinister forces at work. Disguising himself as Big Bill Nyberg, a notorious outlaw, he tests a theory in the general store and gets a revealing reaction from Lefty. Working with Tonto, the masked man pieces together that Lefty is actually Notch Hopkins, an escaped member of Big Bill's gang, and that two of Hammond's own men, Pedro and Fritz, are the actual sheep killers. Now the Lone Ranger must prove that Lefty orchestrated the crimes to drive out the cattlemen and gain control of the entire range for himself.

  • Three Partners
    Originally Aired: December 23, 1938

Red Smiley claims his partner Cliff Noble was murdered by a band of four Indians who attacked their cabin while Cliff nursed a sprained ankle. Red insists he chased the raiders but they escaped, and he tries to recruit the Lone Ranger as a witness to his pursuit. However, the stranger's story quickly falls apart when Tonto reveals he saw no Indians in the area—and more damning, he observed Red sitting idly on the trail before suddenly spurring his horse into a false chase when he spotted someone approaching.
The Lone Ranger suspects Red is establishing a fake alibi for his partner's murder, possibly motivated by greed over their gold claim or tensions that had been building during the long winter. When the third partner, Clem Peterson, returns from town with supplies, he finds Cliff dead and Red spinning his tale of Indian raiders. The masked man and Tonto must uncover the truth before Red can deceive Clem and get away with murder.

    Originally Aired: December 21, 1938
The Lone Ranger #921, "Homestead Swindle," Dan and Bess Griffin arrive at their newly purchased section of land in Mason County, expecting the fertile farmland described in promotional materials, only to discover miles of sand, rocks, and a tumbledown shack. Having spent their entire life savings on this worthless desert, Dan realizes he's been swindled by smooth-talking land promoter Paul Ludwig of Brunswick. The couple encounters Tonto, who soon informs the Lone Ranger that the Griffins aren't Ludwig's only victims - Luke Bagley and the Finch family have also been cheated. The masked rider explains that Mason County was once fertile, watered by the Carlos River, and those old accounts still appear in reference books. Ludwig cleverly uses these outdated descriptions to sell land he acquired for nearly nothing, while staying just inside the law by never making direct claims himself.
The Lone Ranger devises a plan, and he and Tonto ride for Ludwig's Brunswick office, four days away. Meanwhile, victim Luke Bagley confronts Ludwig about the worthless land, while the swindler sits smugly behind his desk flanked by two rough-looking associates, Joe and Curly.

Their fears about former partner Chris and the notorious outlaw Reno Ryan prove well-founded when Reno's gang ambushes them on the trail. Despite Reno's offer to let them go if they surrender their furs peacefully, Hank recognizes the lie and realizes the outlaws plan to kill them regardless. The Baxters take cover behind rocks and refuse to give up the pelts they worked all winter to obtain, even as Greg suffers a bullet wound.
Twenty-four hours into the standoff, the Lone Ranger and Tonto hear gunfire in the distance and investigate. They discover the desperate situation: the Baxters pinned down behind inadequate cover with Reno's superior force firing down on them from the hill above.
