Dr. Curtis tells us about his outstanding training at very prestigious programs with 2 residences and 2 fellowships, which is unheard of and he definitely did not plan.
He never thought he was fellowship material and was just trying to get through residency.
He was especially honored to get the fellowship under the world renowned surgeon Dr. Richard Santucci who is an academic powerhouse, who is published over 200 times.
Today Dr. Santucci is one of Dr. Curtis Crane's employees and joined his practice.

He doesn't abide by too many societal rules and loved to host huge slip and slide parties as wells as demolition derbies during his time of residency.
Dr Curtis loves to prank people and tells us about an epic prank he pulled off on applicant day with Dr. Joshua Broghammer.

His plan was to travel around the world to learn transgender surgery.
He has a heart of gold and has always helped the underprivileged patients all over the world, performing surgeries in South East Asia and Swaziland.

In 2004/2005 nobody was talking about the transgender community and they didn't have anyone to help them.
Dr. Curtis teaches us how to be compassionate about the different individual situations in the transgender community. He pleads for people to accept the transgender community for who they are,
to give them respect and that "EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE TO BE WHO THEY REALLY ARE"! Acknowledge the suffering and have compassion for the trans community.

We get a huge and very important lesson about the transgender community that are less than 18 years old. We talk about the frontal lobe development. Dr. Curtis tells us that children know their gender identity.
He talks so passionately about the term "chemical castration", which is the most evil term you can think of and also completely untrue. He said it is called puberty blockers and 100% reversible.
Going through puberty is really difficult, but going through puberty being the wrong gender is 100000 times worse!
He takes each patient on a case by case basis!

He shares the unbelievable story about one of his patients that he performed his youngest chest masculinization surgery on, who is a 12 year old child. This story is absolutely mesmerizing, informative and life changing.
Dr. Curtis is so very passionate about this case because he believes that if this surgery didn't happen, the child would have committed suicide.
Today he is in college and absolutely flourishing.

To Dr. Curtis all this is crystal clear and he invites anyone that has questions or issues with this to come to his clinic.
He says a lot of people empathize by putting themselves in someone else's shoes. It is impossible to empathize with the trans community in that way.
He and his clinic have taken care of 1000's of patients and he has zero idea what it is like to be trans.

The Crane Center for Transgender Surgery has performed over 600 Phalloplasty surgeries, that is the second most in the whole world.

He built the 6 bedroom home for himself and his children and was not intending to sell it so soon, but the market made him change his mind.

We learn about an incredible program called "Hope Squad" that was created by someone from Utah and they are trying to get it into all schools.
Shockingly they are getting a lot of resistance because schools are afraid it will give students ideas. The foundation is even offering to pay for the counselors
and the training.
Sue and her oldest daughter Sally speak at many events.
They also provide care cards that have all the suicide warning signs on them.
The reach of the foundation is all over the country.
Sue believes that it is mostly impulse control with teenagers, and she believes that even though Grace was depressed her suicide was out of impulse because she
was mad. Their frontal lobe is not all the way developed yet.

Sue made the difficult decision to have an open casket at Grace's funeral, because she wanted the reality to sink in with Grace's friends that this is what suicide looks
like. Not all family members were in agreement with this decision but Sue thought it would be important and her passion is to try to save lives.
Sue talks passionately about mental health.

She tells us that they call people "Suicide Survivors" because it is a double whammy to overcome - because not only do you lose your loved one, but then people
blame you. The surviving person gets looked at like it is their fault.
Sue says that sometimes it is better to call a friend than calling a hotline, but of course to call someone is the most important.
Younger people don't feel they can trust their friends because they get let down so often.

Sue wishes that she could snap out of her deep grief, because she doesn't want it to define her, but she doesn't know how to.
She tells us that they try to celebrate Grace's life and focus on all that was amazing about her and not how she died.
She would give everything for just one more day!

Part 3 of Miss Sue Loncar's brave testimony about her daughter's suicide and her husbands overdose deaths takes us through "the day of the worst day of her life".
Sue believes that Grace had no intentions to kill herself that night because she had gone to the mall, bought candles and planned to go to a party the next day.
She thought that she had actually been doing a lot better than before.
Sue says that Teenagers confide in their friends that they want to committ suicide, but usually not to anyone else.
Sue was always the disciplinarian but the night of Grace's death both her and Brian took Grace's phone because she had gotten in trouble. It was not a harsh punishment and
she was supposed to get her phone back the next morning.
Sue stayed with Grace until 4 am to talk everything through and to make sure she was ok.
When she woke up at 11 am and went to Grace's room she found her dead on the floor with a gunshot wound to her head.
Sue's first reaction was to sit her up and will her back to life.
Bravely Sue talks about all the next horrible moments. She was in shock and laid with her dead daughter until the police made her leave.
2 days after Grace's funeral on the next Sunday she was waiting on Brian to meet her in church but he didn't show up, because he had overdosed and by the
time Sue got to the hospital her husband was dead.
In complete shock she could not even comprehend what was happening.
She has been robbed from being able to share memories of her daughter with him who loved her as much as she did. She has to walk this painful road all alone.
She says she knows what it feels like to want to die. Her saving Grace have been God and her other children because she does not want to harm them anymore.
Sue says she is a changed person - everything is tinged with terrible sadness.
She had to learn to make it one breath at a time, 30 minutes at a time, 1 hour at a time ..................

We continue with part 2 of the brave Sue Loncar ........ In this episode we learn all about who Grace Caroline Loncar was, the gifts she has and the purpose and legacy in her name.
"This little girl has a purpose - I am going to name her Grace" Sue Loncar said when she found out that she was pregnant with her.
She says the only way for her to survive Grace's death is to believe that she has not lost Grace and that she is still her mother and will be reunited with her. She feels that Grace is guiding and
comforting her and that Grace wants Sue to help other people with her story.
Sue tells us all about how Grace was as a little child. From her mature nature and wicked sense of humor, to her enormous talent and how she was always glued to her side.
All the siblings spoiled Grace - she was the baby of the family. But Grace suffered from depression and had 2 prior suicide attempts, one at the age of 9 years old.
Grace was super creative and very close to her Dad, very much a Daddy's girl and preferred to be at home.
Grace was never bullied, very popular and had an extreme compassionate heart for others and a real champion for the underdog.
She took on the wounded people and especially after her death many stories came to light of how much she had done for others.
She was encouraging and befriended everyone. Her strongest suit was her capacity to feel which was a double edged sword for her.

Sue feels that she never knew how tortured Grace was inside and the amount of self loathing and the warfare that was going on in her mind that depression brings on -
where you body wants to go on living but your mind tells you NO.

Brian relapsed for 2 years and left when Grace was a preteen. He had gone to rehab and Sue and Brian were trying to get back together. Sue believed that Brian could get back to who he was before his relapse. He had already done it once and was sober for 23 years.
Family meant everything to Grace and it motivated Sue to give it another try. Grace wanted the whole family intact and even created a book that she titled "My family" where every family member got their own page and artwork.

The night Grace committed suicide she had gotten in trouble, grounded and her phone taken away.
When Sue and Brian woke up in the morning they found Grace dead from a self inflicted gun shot wound and Brian died 6 days later on an accidental drug overdose. He couldn't handle the pain. There is no question that
Brian loved Grace with every fiber of his being. Brian was bipolar and Sue wonders if Grace was also bipolar.

Sue says she had been trying to save Grace and Brian for years - she was on a rescue mission.

We find out how the other children were impacted and coping with these tragedies. The 2 deaths caused a downward spiral through the whole family. When someone commits suicide everybody feels like it is their fault and they
could have done something. It is the worst death imaginable.
Sue says her only consolation is that she knows that Grace knows how much she loved her. but love is not enough, Love will not save a depressed person. ........

Sue's precious daughter Grace Loncar committed suicide at age 16, almost 4 years ago and her Dad Brian Loncar, a prominent Texas personal injury lawyer "The Texas Strong Arm"
passed away 2 days after his daughter's funeral from an accidental drug overdose. They say that he died of a broken heart.

The pain and suffering Sue is enduring is too much to comprehend, yet she shows so much grace and strength and her spirit that surrounds her is kind and so very loving.

Sue shares about the moment she walked into Brian's law office and he stopped a meeting he was in to give her his full attention and proposed to her and her 3 children after only 6 weeks of knowing her

Brian was a recovering alcoholic that was fun and entertaining and the 2 of them had a blast together. They got married 3 times and we especially talk about the time they got married in Las Vegas in front of an Elvis Presley interpreter. You have to hear the story what happened from there. It made national news.

They tried so hard to have their 5th child Abby, they tried IVF, but that didn't work and then surprisingly got pregnant naturally and welcomed their beautiful Abby. They really wanted Abby to have a sibling and after a
miscarriage and lots of prayers at a "Grace" retreat Sue got the exciting news that she was pregnant with a baby girl and she immediately decided to name her Grace.
