    Publisher's Summary:
In the broken country that is Zimbabwe, only the strongest can survive. Three families - the Bryants, the Quilter-Phipps, and the Ngwenyas - share a history as complex and bloody as the country itself. Dedicated conservationists Paul and Philippa Bryant face an enormous struggle: to save their farm and small herd of endangered black rhinos from corrupt government minister Emmerson Ngwenya. Twin brothers, ex-soldier Braedan and environmentalist Tate Quilter-Phipps join the fight.
But the brothers own history is fraught, and when they fall in love with the same woman, Natalie Bryant, their rivalry threatens to not only derail the attempt to save the rhinos, but also puts the lives of all involved at risk. And with Emmerson vowing to stop at nothing until he has control of the farm, a bloody showdown seems inevitable.
With blood feuds still to settle, every one of these players will be drawn into the fray, and not one will remain unscathed.
    Critic Reviews:
Thriller writer Tony Park can be best described as an Aussie cross between Wilbur Smith and Tom Clancy. (The Independent Weekly)

    Just OK
This is the forth Tony Park that I have listened to. I did enjoy the book but not as much as the others. This story was a bit to gruesome for me I almost stopped after the first part of the book. The narrator did a great job which helped me keep listening. Some people will love this book my friend read the book and she loved it.
A great story let down by the narrator
This is one of those ripping yarns which has been well researched by the author and which tells a gripping story.
The whole thing was totally ruined for me by the narrator's complete lack of research into pronunciation of common words used in the region. There are far too many mangled words to list them all but a few outstanding ones include Specky Avenue for Speke (speak) Avenue, Showna for the people of Mashonaland (short O as in got, gonna), and worst of all Sealer Scouts for Selous (Seloo) Scouts.
With modern access to information via internet search engines and blogs these days there is simply no excuse for a professional actor to get so many words so wrong. There are thousands of us expat Zimbabweans in forums and mailing lists around on the net who would have loved to assist him to get them right.
The accents are a different matter and he managed to convey the different characters adequately if not correctly, but that is forgiveable - the various accents are not easy.
    Brought back memories
Where does African Dawn rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It is one of the best books I have listened to, although fiction it could well of happened, Events and situations are easy to relate to if you lived there during the period covered.
What did you like best about this story?
The first half, so much was the same as my growing up in Rhodesia, High school army etc.
The second half in many ways made me feel I made the right decision to leave Zimbabwe in 93 with my young family.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The scene in Club Tomorrow (clubbies). Was the fish tank after it changed to Arckies though.

Title: Monsieur Pamplemousse and the Carbon Footprint

    Publisher's Summary:
Le Guide, Frances top gastronomic guide, is failing to whet the appetite of its audience in America. Bribed by the director with offers of some time off, Monsieur Pamplemousse agrees to flex his literary muscles in a bid to address the problem by writing a play.
The result is the ex-detectives directorial debut, complete with walk-on part for faithful bloodhound Pommes Frites. Everything rests on their special guest, Jay Corby, the acclaimed American food-critic, whose good opinion could change their transatlantic fortunes. But disaster strikes on opening night....

Good taste food and bad taste sex French farce!
Ingenious plots, eccentric characters, rather last century - the author is nearly 90 - in national and gender stereotypes. (Think Roger Moore or Peter Sellers.) Part cookery book/restaurant guide, and don't think you can afford the wines!
Redeemed by Bill Wallis's narration, and the loving relationship between Pamplemousse, an ex-policeman and his bloodhound of character, Pommes Frites; Mme P - Doucette or Couscous - is a little less of a long suffering cipher than her predecessor, Mme Maigret!
Our heroes are said to be ex-Sûreté, which would make the human well over 100, and the dog.....?
The French is quite often wrong, although clearly pronounced, which helps.
AND our canine friend often consumes wine, chocolate and other potentially fatal poisons (for dogs).
Still, it has some hilarious episodes involving Pommes Frites - the most intelligent character, and a great deal of fun at the expense of US culture and business management fads.

Ex-CIA Carr is the reluctant leader of an elite crew planning a robbery of such extraordinary proportions that it will leave them set for life. Diamonds, money laundering, and extortion go into a timed-to-the-minute scheme that unfurls across South America, Miami, and Grand Cayman Island. Carr's cohorts are seasoned pros, but they're wound drum-tight - months before, the man who brought them together was killed in what Carr suspects was a setup. And there are other loose ends: some of the intel they're paying for is badly inaccurate, and one of the gang may have an agenda of her own. But Carr's biggest problems are yet to come, because few on his crew are what they seem to be, and even his own past is a lie.
    Critic Reviews:
"Superlative prose...[a] gritty stand-alone...both intricate and plausible." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Narration was like torture
The narration of this novel was so awful that I actually found myself making fun of the narrator and imitating him. His cadence and intonation were so off-putting that I could not finish this novel and really could not get past 20 minutes. It was almost like valley-girl speak - just dreadful.
    Intricate Storyline
This was a bit hard to follow in the beginning but very suspenseful by the end. The payoff is pretty big in the end so overall I liked the book and the listen. If you had asked me halfway in though, I would have said it was too confusing and hard to follow. The pieces do come together.
    Great book, Perfect Narration
Darker than the Ocean's movies, this heist book is not a playful, high stakes romp. There is a feeling that things can go horribly wrong at any time. The thieves are either at each other's throats or manipulating their partners, and the bad guys (this crew robs criminal organizations) are ruthless. They'll kill the instant something smells fishy. Everything you want in your caper is still there: 2 femme fatales, hair-trigger psycho tough-guys, smarmy villains, but there is the hero, too. He is so well developed and real, fighting family issues while struggling to keep his crew on mission. Deep down, the story is about Carr trying to make sense of his past at the same time as he catches whiffs of an impending trap.
The narrator, William Dufris, knocked my socks off. I'm putting him up there with Scott Brick and Simon Vance, but he's got far more range. Each character was distinct, I could pick them out before the writing tag. Spiegleman indicates almost everyone's accent and Dufris nails it. And he finds this incredible, resonating baritone (or whatever is below that) for the behind-the-scenes money-man.
    Le Carre Whisperer
Except for the tiniest thread of dues ex machina in his ending, Spiegelman has woven together caper with spy craft engagingly in Thick As Thieves. His last hours of listening stole a Saturday afternoon... No added an excitement to that afternoon, as I sat earphoned and useless to the world.... Normally I listen to these books while doing some second order tasks. Only two or three times have I entirely given over a block of time to just listening. No regrets, the author's that good... I'll listen to another of his.... Look forward to it.

    Great Book
Loved the book. Paul Sussman is a great story teller. Tragic loss would have liked to have had more from him
    Interesting
Well read but not as riveting as I thought it would be; a little disappointing. The characters seemed to stay on the page, rather than draw me in as I hoped they would.
    I wasn't convinced.
great idea for a mystery novel, good narration, but I found the story a little predictable. the plot has a few holes. characters were nicely developed. excellent descriptions, I felt transported to Egypt.
    Great reader, bad writing
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
predictable, cliche ridden drivel spoils this book. Maybe a different author could improve it?
What was most disappointing about Paul Sussmans story?
    Formulaic, predictable, rubbish.
Which character as performed by Gordon Griffin was your favourite?
    N/a
You didnt love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It ended. I was horribly fascinated by how bad it was so forced myself to listen to the end just to confirm my view on how predictable it was.
    Any additional comments?
Great reader. Would have given up otherwise.
    suprising
If you could sum up The Lost Army of Cambyses in three words, what would they be?
    fantastical researched surprising
What other book might you compare The Lost Army of Cambyses to, and why?
    firefox by michael asher
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
I missed clues to the identity of the antagonist, so maybe a little help would have been nice. I was a little shocked at the protagonists reactions, which obviously became clear as the plot unfolded.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No particular emotional reaction, but enjoyable.
    Any additional comments?
I got a bit board in the middle thinking the ending was predictable, it wasn't. well not all of it! enjoy

Lawsons House Divided is a nonstop thrill ride. The author has created a disturbingly real Washington, DC, and peopled it with eerily familiar characters. He writes with wit and verve and displays a shrewd understanding of bureaucratic irony. Thoroughly enjoyable. The political thriller of the year. (John Lutz, New York Times best-selling author)

    An efficient well-oiled machine
A lot of dramatic action sprinkled with a tolerable amount of sappy-ness. The story kept moving forward in a way that kept me fully engaged.
What was unique was the author's ability to switch back and forth between first and third person. I didnt think i would like that but found it added to the drama.
This narrator is now one of my favorites.
Action all the time, no boring parts.
Would you listen to The Payback again? Why?
Not nowadays but probably after several years.
What other book might you compare The Payback to and why?
    My previous Simon Kernick book.
Which character as performed by Paul Thornley was your favorite?
Paul Thornley is, without any doubth, the very best performer at least in my humble opinion.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did it in ten one hour parts during daily long walks.
    Any additional comments?
This Kernick/Thornley co-operation is a great entertainment though is has some strange details.
    Awesome book
Great story so many twists and turns.
Fully recommended , narrator totally captures the mood through out.
    Great for a good story!
Couldn't wait to get back to it! I really liked the characters and like that you can't help but feel for a baddie and feel hatred for the 'real' baddie! Good am going to get another - like this narrator too!

OMG - What a crappy book!
This abomination of a book is a horrible disappointment to loyal James Patterson fans. Not just the departure to an absurd fantasy and sci-fi tale, but a horrible entry into that genre. An invincible hero, who withstands furious fusilades of laser fire with Superman somersaults and agility, but a stupid plot. Save your money or credits. This book is a waste of time and resources. It is not worthy of the single star, which is as low a rating as I could give it.
    Wow..surprisingly bad
As a James Patterson fan I was extremely disappointed that he would put his name on this book. It's an inane story that isn't remotely believable and barely interesting. However, the narration was good (given the material he had to work with).
    Sound effects were good
The best part of this book was the music and sound effect bumpers. Does that tell you what you need to know?
Normally, I too am a Patterson fan, but this was really terrible. And the worst part is that there are obviously plans to turn this into a series that I will definitely be boycotting.
    Just a very small OK
Even if the storyline had some potential, but soon after the beginning, it falls apart. The main character is uninteresting and the plot is FULL of holes. There is also all the ingredients for the usual we are good as human and they are bad. We are good because... we are good... The second half of the book was, simply put, awful... Poorly written and completely unbelievable. Sorry mr. Patterson. May be ok for kids of 10 and younger...
    NOT James Patterson
I made a big mistake here and did not read the synopsis of this book. I"ve never read anything by James Patterson that I didn't like, particularly his Alex Cross books. He has given me much pleasure of reading in the past. Not so with this book. It is a Sci Fi mystery. I finished it only because I always feel the need to do that but I did not like it. I do not read Sci Fi and never will. Those that are fans of Sci Fi will probably like this. I did not. I like things realistic to today and not a hundred years from now. If you like all of the things James Patterson has done in the past, then do not buy it. It was totally disappointing and should have known better when paired with another writer. Stay with what you are good at, James. This is not you and certainly is not me.

The Omega Theory opens with media reports that, despite U.S. warnings, Iran has tested a nuclear bomb. But the blast from the device is different and far more dangerous than that of any previous nuclear weapon. Surveillance instruments show that for one split second an event occurred that had not taken place since the Big Bang 14 billion years ago.
Meanwhile, science historian David Swift and quantum physicist Monique Reynolds learn that their autistic son, Michael, has been kidnapped by a militant cult called the True Believers. Michael, a descendant of Albert Einstein, has inherited Einsteins remarkable intelligence and is the only person in the world who knows Einstein's last secret: the Final Theory, a set of equations that could explain all the forces of nature. Only those who understand the key to creation could know how to destroy it. The Iranian nuclear blast is a demonstration of this understanding. Soon David and Monique realize their desperate search for Michael is also a desperate race to stop the horrific power of the theory from being unleashed.
Joining forces with FBI Agent Lucille Parker, David and Monique race from the Old City of Jerusalem to the deserts of Turkmenistan to rescue Michael and stop the cults fanatic leader. Their journey proves just how difficult it is to stop those who are willing to die in the name of God.
Praised by best-selling peers such as Douglas Preston and James Rollins, Mark Alpert shows he is at the top of his writing game and the cutting edge of science, seamlessly weaving fact and fiction with nonstop heart-pounding action in this explosive thriller. We will never see our universe in quite the same way again.

    Standard Granger
There are some audiobook authors that I can always rely on for a reasonably good detective story and Ann Granger is one of them (Reginald Hill and Henry Mankell also). Granger does not always stick to the storyline but gets there in the end.
Enjoyable story, narration a bit odd
What did you like about this audiobook?
Interestung characters, good story. I've listened to all the available books in the Markby and Mitchell series on Audible with several narrators. Disliked narrator Bill Wallis' use of a slight Scottish accent for Meredith Mitchell.
    Narration at its best
This is the first Ann Granger I have read/listened to and I am enjoying her relaxed and very natural style. All credit must go to Bill Wallis who narrates so well, and whose portrayal of the character's voices, with just a slightly different nuance for each, is perfect.
